  1. Is $51.00 delivered for a set of Iridium plugs a good deal? IMR9A-9H That's sparkplugs.com If not where should I get them.
  2. The gap should be .035" The manual states that if a .040" wire gauge fits in the gap the plug should be replaced. The Iridium IMR9A-9H should go at least 16k miles. Dan
  3. Kerosene lightly on a rag (old socks) to clean the side plates. 1 gallon at the hardware store is like $3 and will last forever. Then a good o-ring friendly chain lube to follow on the inside of the rollers and side plates. WD is tooo light weight. There is a reason Honda recommends 90wt gear oil.

    Trailer a Bird

I just bought a 4x8ft flat bed trailer. I'm gonna put a sheet of 3/4" plywood to cover the frame. The thought is I can still take the bird along on trips where the wife doesn't want to do the whole drive alone. I've heard a couple of horror stories of bikes falling off trailers and don't want to repeat. How do you secure the bird? Canyon dancer front end? Where and how do you hold it down securely. Tie downs to eyebolts? It looks like it's gonna be hard to keep the tiedowns off the plastic. Photos of your setups would be great. Thanks for the input. Dan
  5. So nobody has bought the UFO lights? :?:

    MPG

Stock 02 about 30mpg around town/twisties. Not sure about hwy as I have a phobia of straight lines :-o
  7. Has anyone bought and tried this item? I e-mailed them and offered to beta it and give feedback and they declined. (supprise...) Said they had given several to forum members to try. Who are you, they wouldn't say...

    Speedo recal.

Worked for me, Wednesday 3:12 PST. dano
  9. Being from Seattle I can tell ya that it's a regular occurance. Just steam. Haven't had any ill effects on my 02 Bird. It seems that it would be bad for the gauge console. Really not much to do about it. Just keep moving.. d
  10. Pulled over two times, no tickets. Had a trooper pull up along side on the freeway and shake his and and drive off. Doing 90-100 mph when I spotted him closing from behind. Coasted to speed limit while he was still 300 yards back. 2 years on a Silver XX, I have a radar detector but I know it's coming..
  11. Saw this on another site. Pretty cool, easy mod that is well explained. Mods for people with no money... http://home.comcast.net/~clcormier/opener.htm
  12. The Silicone should be gone in the 1st few miles. You could always "Scotch Brite" the edges if you are so inclined. Orlando's estimate of 6K plus miles seems more like Pilot Road milage than Sport. I'm @ 2800 miles and starting to shop for local deals to replace my Sports. My friends R1 just got "nailed in the rear" with only about 300 miles. I believe he had purchased road hazard insurance. Some shops provide that and will replace new, if tread is 90% or better and prorate the rest if it is worn more. dan
  13. Why is it that every tire manufacture rep I've talk to(Michelin/Dunlop/Avon) at the local track says to run 1-2 psi higher pressure in the front tire than the rear? Pre their suggestion; I run 37 front and 35-36 rear. I currently have Pilot Sports. Most of my riding is rual roads/twisties. When I'm slabbing it on the freeway for longer trips I bump front and rear up 2-3 psi. I got 7,500 miles out of my stock BT57's and on pace to get maybe 3-3.5K miles out of the Sports.

    190 mph

Sanch: Toxxic will be sending you your ticket :!: 283 feet per second! How was the scenery? After you got out of your driveway, you must of really been flying  Dano
  15. Thank you for the part number. I was on hold with the dealer, saw your post. He has having trouble locating the part so I gave him the part number you provided and voilĂ , there it was. Said it fooled him, as it appears to be part of the exhaust system on the micro fiche. Must be expensive to live down there in Florida. Mine $ 4.62 including tax. Thanx for the help. I'll get the part Friday. Until then, I'll duct tape  the old one in place. Thanx Dan
  16. Damn these XX's always something major breaking. Yesterday came back from a ride and noticed the bumper stopper that the center stand hits when in the up position sitting on the garage floor. Must have broken when I push forward off the stand to head out on my ride. I think maybe the cold weather had something to do with it as it was about 32 degrees when I headed out. Should I just bolt a rubber stopper to the bracket or is there a replacement part for it? The stand is almost rubbing on the chain so I'm gonna have to fix it pronto. This is really gonna break the bank to fix this mechanical nightmare! BTW, great to be back on the Bird after breaking the collarbone Christmas day. Did 130 miles yesterday and felt great. Could have done with out a few of the rain squalls though. Dan

    Brake lines

I was gonna change the brakes but I decided to just take a hammer and put a couple of half gallon dents in the fuel tank to save weight. Total time for modification, 45 seconds. Weight savings about 7 pounds. Yes I'm having a bad day.... dano
  18. Yep I can see the pics. Yep it looks misaligned. Is it warped or is it just an alignment issue?
  19. 2002 with 11k miles. CCT at 6k miles, that's it. dan
  20. I'm going to install heated grips on my 02 bird. Dual Star type heating elements that go under the grips. I'm gonna wire them for the basic Hi/lo settings with no troller controller. I wanted to purchase a turnsignal switch and wire it up to, push Left for Hi, Right for Low and push in for Off. I would put it in the blank spot on the right handle bar switch housing above the starter switch. I called Honda parts and they said I had to buy the whole left hand housing if I wanted a turn signal switch. About $70.00 Any ideas where I might score a turn signal switch. The objective is to make the install look as nice as possible. The grips came with an ugly 3 way toggle switch. I've tried Radio Shack and a few auto parts stores, thought I would ask here before I start to dig through the Newark varity electronics catalogs. Anyone have a wrecked left hand housing (with a good switch) they would like to contribute to the project  Thanks for your time. Dan
  21. I got a gallon of Kerosene at my local Ace Hardware Store. Any hardware store that sells keorsene heaters should have kerosene. I use a small amount on a rag to clean off the side plates of the chain every couple thousand miles. It was @ $3.00 Should last me 50 years. Works great. Dan

    Tire Balancing

I know we have talked about this but I have another question. Bought new Michelin Pilot Sports. Dealer had a sale. They mounted and balanced them. Ride home wobble @ 40-50 mph. Few days later when I had the chance I took the front wheel back and had them check the balancing. They said it was off by 25 grams. I'm thinking great, they didn't do it right the 1st time but now it will be better. Get home(should have looked at it there but..) noticed they had added the 25 grams to another spot. 30 grams still in the origional spot. Now I've got 55 grams lead on the rim. I put it back on and test ride. It is better, but still wobbles at 40-50 mph. Maybe something like 50% better then it was. So now I thinking I better take the rear in to check it again. Question: Seems like they should be able to balance the rim with lead in one spot only. Should I have them strip all the lead on the front and do it again (same with rear if it needs it), or is no big deal, or in fact necessary sometimes to have balance lead in several places? I thought spin balancing was suppose to be percise, I mean balanced is balanced, I shouldn't get different results every time right? Dano
  23. Warchild: What brand/model tires are you running on your bird these days? Dano
  24. Just replaced my stock BT57 with Pilot Sports. No wobble before with 7,700 miles. New tires wobble @ 40-50 MPH. I thought maybe they did a poor job balancing them, but after reading these posts, I guess they just wobble. Bugs me a little when coming out of turns with light bar pressure going into second gear. Guess I'll just live with it. Maybe some rainy weekend I'll lift the front end and check the bearings and take the rims down and have them check the balance again. Rainy weekend, here in Seattle wonder when that will happen? Dano Oh ya, no Givi's a few low smooth wheelies and I weigh 190. I don't think it's the bearings.
  25. Re:clutch-slave cover, if you have removed the slave and pull clutch lever you'll soon be watching the slave piston shoot accross the garage and spray clutch fluid all over your bike. Next you'll be filling and bleeding your clutch resevoir. Good idea to put a zip tie over the piston end so it won't shoot out, as it can release even without pulling the lever. dano
