Got almost 109000 on the XX and am taking a cross country trip this June. Any kind of weight other than my own results in my HID blinding oncoming traffic. I can't afford an Ohlins or a Wilbers but feel it's time to change the rear shock. What other years will fit my '97 and who has a low mileage shock laying around they'd like to part with for a reasonable price? Thanks all.

I have a cbr900rr shock for sale that fits the bird. All that's needed is a heavier spring that I believe you can get from race tech.

I too have a CBR900 RR shock that you can buy it has a Hyperpro progressive spring already fitted to it

I took it off when I put the Wilbers shock on

PM if interested

BTW I am 260+LBs and I thought the spring a little soft but lighter riders should have no problem

it didn't sag just felt soft on the hole shot ...I think it the progressive spring .... rode it at NEXXT ect with luggage no issue ...FYI

Ralph,

Was this just a standard hyperpro spring for the 900rr or was it a special order? And what was the cost?

I'm 176 and dropping so that may work for me :icon_think:

Maybe I shouldn't unload this shock.

Do you still have this shock and if so are you still looking to sell it and if so how much, I have been looking on Ebay and trying the wreckers here in Aus without much luck. On the same subject I read somewhere that the part #'s for the 900RR shock are 93-95 MWO-003, MWO-0132A, MWO-0132B, MAE-0032B, and not the "MAS" prefix is this right - I have seen one on Ebay with MAE-003 listed but they say it is off a 1997 CBR600 F3 - could this be right, also according to a Honda Aus parts catalogue I have the 93 900RR rear shock is # 52400-MW0-013, 94 and 95 is 52400-MAE-003ZA - no mention of MWO-003, MWO-0132A, MWO-0132B, MAE-0032B :icon_think: :icon_confused: pm sent

I swapped mine at 50K for one that had 1K on it and there was a big difference.

My vote is yes you should swap it, the old one is beyond tired with that may miles.

I think I paid 60$ for the replacement from one our members, yes it's not a Wilbur's/Ohlins/Penske but mine was so tired that 60$ was money well spent.imo. :icon_wink:

Ok, may be I should replaced mine after 30k miles. Mine is also a 97.

After Dotetcher got his, anybody has a stock low mileage shock that fits a 97?

(No, I don't want to go thru the trouble of getting a 900RR shock

and then need to find a spring and then had to have somebody install the spring)

Thanks!

PS: If not, who has the best price on an Ohlin shock?

Interesting seeing this post up again. I just turned 120,000 on the odometer. Love my XX.

Speaking of long lived machines, a friend of mine is a LD rider and has 152,000 miles on his ST1100 that he uses to compete with. That's the bike he won the ButtLite with a month or so ago.
