blackhawkxx
Just to be clear, you can drift start it and it runs fine but the starter will not crank over? Does the taillight and dash lights work?

blackhawkxx
Well, you know when you push the start button, the headlight goes out. Checking out the button would be the first thing that I would do along with the starting circuit. I'm sure others will be along that has been through a similar thing before. I hope that you have a shop manual.
partsman
Sounds like starter relay.Does it make a clicking noise? You can bridge the two posts and send power directly to the starter to check it.
redxxrdr
http://www.vt750dc.com/HONDA_VT750DC.pdf I think this is the manual of your bike. chapter 18, if i linked correctly has a starter trouble shooting guide. I'm going to post the link, and then go back to read the manual. To help us... help. Do you have a digital volt meter? And are you comfortable in using it? Many do, and many do not. A meter will help work you through electrical problems. Disclaimer. I found this manual with a Google search. It may be for your bike, or not. Think before following the guide. It may not be the correct one. Edit: it also looks like a kick stand and clutch interlock switch is in the circuit. Or the bike must be in neutral. Plus, look at the drawing that starts on 18-0. I see a couple of fuses in the circuit. And what appears to be a unmarked fuse in the starter relay. Either could be bad. My SV WONT start unless the clutch is pulled in, transmission in gear or not. runner
What is the bikes service history? I have a Nighthawk 750 that has had various electrical gremlins. The starter & headlight not burning may be separate issues. What happens if you run jumper cables directly from the battery to the starter terminals? (I have replaced the Nighthawk starter twice over the past decade).
XXMAN
Headlight never comes on even when bump started it doesn't dim it never comes on. The starter doesn't click or attempt to turnover at all.

I do see your point as far as the headlight not working but getting it to started is my first priority.
racer212
That bikes starter relay is currently under recall from Honda. Free way to test that part. Though if I had to guess I say starter button itself. Has the bike fallen over? Are the switch cubes stock? I'd also follow the wires from the switch cube as far as you can. Make sure they didn't get pinched the steering or between the tank and frame.

runner
Run jumper cables from the battery to the (2) starter input terminals...if nothing happens, it's dead. I use Rick's Electrics for my electrical parts.
