Wanted !!! - Set of "New" Akrapovic Slip-ons

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm on the hunt to find a "new" set of Akrapovic slip-ons for my '97 XX, I spoke with Akropovic directly, and they say, "nay nay make no more", but, that I should still be able to find a new set on a shelf "somewhere"? I've tried and contacted many large distributers, by email and telephone, and so far none in stock anywhere Canada or USA. My preference was carbon fibre ones but now finding anything would be sweet. Is there "anyone" throughout this forum here that could direct me somewhere, either a phone number, name or email of some place to look?? I've already gone through the largest ones, ( in Canada - Canadianmotorcycle ; GW Cycle, Calgary ; in USA - J&P World Headquarters, Iowa ; Destination Daytona Superstore, Florida ; Motosport.com ; Revzilla, they directed me to motorsportworld.co.uk, Scotland ; all of these don't have anything in stock to fit my XX?) If anyone can help me in anyway would be greatly appreciated, so I can give up the hunt and go order my 2nd choice, thanks so much, Scotty M

Might want to make sure they have them before pulling the trigger on them

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a try!!

Just looked at them, and they say '99 to '03? I know the part # is the same from '97 to '03, guess I'll check it out. A mechanic friend said he checked ebay for me, and found zilch? Guess I should have looked my self, thanks, I appreciate it!!

Well, you were right on that company having some in stock, thanks a lot for that, mind you its in the UK, but the sales guy said his were just for the fuel injected ones, '99 and up. I told him Honda had the same muffler replacement part number for '97 to '03, it would definitely fit, but he told me to look into it before buying just the same. I made some calls and I cant find anyone familiar with these exhausts and if there was any tweaking involved with the carb'd XX, and the rep I contacted this morning at "Akrapovic", only knew what his book said, nothing more. Its not like i'm changing the "whole" system, just mufflers, I wouldn't think there would be a drastic enough change that would jeopardise my engine? But since I don't want anything to happen to my special girl I best look into it. I'll spend a little time searching through this forum, maybe I can find something to answer my question? If not I'll post and ask on here, thanks again for the help, Scotty M.

Worse case scenario, you could always put an FI (99-03) header on it.

They should be readily available but I don't think that will be necessary.

Good luck.

Just looking through some part schematics, and they show that all year's of the CBR1100XX have the same front header. Part number 18150-MAT-A01. I have listed a online parts supplier schematic here. Check around for some other sources just to be sure, but from the way it looks, you should not have any issues with FI slip ons.

They paired the cylinders differently on the carbed and FI model headers. I know for a fact that the headers are not all the same. I ran into this when I bought a full Akra system for my 2001 and it turned out to be for a carbed model. Nothing that couldn't be dealt with, but the headers are different.

That said, there's no difference between models that I'm aware of that would prevent mounting "carbed" slip ons on an FI bike. The cans all have the same mounting points AFAIK and the headers have the same outlets.

I did myself find that kinda strange as well, but that is how they are listed?? I thought the headers were changed due to the fuel injection or the way things were mounted in front of the cylinder head, IE, oil cooler on the carbed birds or the air ducts on the FI models, but the bolt on section for the slip-ons I believe to be the same.

Hi folks, its looking pretty good now to get my Akropovics, I just have to contact all the places here in Canada and USA to see if maybe there is stock available this side of the Atlantic? lol Never know, might not have to go all the way to the UK to purchase them? I notice Blackhawkxx said they were race mufflers with no baffle? I didn't think the description said that, will look into it, will be speaking again to Akropovic again today. I appreciate all the input here, I should have logged in here from the start, but thought it was plain and simple to get, thanks to all. I'll keep you posted on my findings, thanks again for the info!!

Thankyou Blackhawkxx for your input, very much appreciated but those racing ones would draw way too much attention to me, and probably get noise tickets! lol

Just updating my situation here, I "finally" (only took 2 weeks) found a complete set of slip-ons, DB Killers and everything!!! Only "1" set left collecting dust since a few years, in stock in the great ol' USA!!! On clearance $$ as well because they are discontinued!! No having to purchase from overseas now!! It's my lucky day, I should go buy a lotto ticket?? lol Persistence and patience paid off!! Anyways, we'll see how it goes, hopefully they'll be the right choice I made, really liked their look and sound over all the availiable ones for the XX, my 2nd pick was "Two Brothers slip-ons". Well thankyou to all in the forum here for the help, I'll make a post once installing them and let you know my opinion, thanks again, Scotty M.

Hello Blackbird friends, here's an update on my Akrapovic search! The place that said they "had" a set collecting dust on the shelf was(J&P World Headquarters in Florida), sales man by the name of Eddie, ( "Steady Eddie"), should have known with that name? Well Eddie said the set he had was for my XX, and of course discontinued, price slashed to $799, my lucky day, etc etc. Well I'm glad I didn't complete the sale on that day, I waited till the first of the week before calling back and confirming, thank god, Eddie's extension didn't answer so I was patched through to a Steve. Well, Steve had told me that the set of cans he was "knowingly" going to ship me were actually a discontinued set for a "Ducati"!! A set that I wasn't going to be able to return? Eddie was even repeating back to me the right number for my XX to confirm the sale! Can't trust anyone these days!! Anyways, Steve supposedly reported the incident to his superiors and did a deep search to find that they had none available at all. So my only alternative now was back to the UK.(as suggested on the forum here, thanks) at Performance Parts. LTD. com (Parts guy "Clem) in Northamptonshire, was the best, most knowledgeable parts guy yet, he definitely had a few sets left but the price was just a little too steep for me at this time to buy and have them shipped here to Alberta, as I was spending a fair amount as it was on other things for this season, engine and carb, etc, ,and labour here isn't cheap as well, it certainly adds up quick? So I decided in the end to go for my second choice, I have officially ordered yesterday out of Calgary a set of TBR Black Series M-2 Carbon Fibre Canisters, less money and they look sweet and should sound pretty good too, we'll see how that goes, should be here in 7-14 days. And that's about it, just wanted to share and give the lesson to always "make sure" with what you order over the phone, thankyou fellas, Scotty M.

Exhaust update! - Hi folks, well finally I received my 2Bros Black Series Carbon Fibre slip-ons 1-2 weeks ago, took a lil' extra time to get them, by the sounds of it they had to "build" me a set for my Birdie, which they said they "would" do when I spoke with them directly if I couldn't find any on the shelf somewhere. Well the wait was well worth it!!! The cans match my bike color and decals unbelievably, they far exceeded my expectations since I had my mind set on Akrapovics. The sound........oh the sound.......they are the deepest, heaviest, growliest pipes I have ever heard on a streetbike, they turn heads everywhere I go. That "was" the sound I was looking from the Akra's, but for "my" Birdie, 2Bros got them beat in "every" sense? (of course, that's my "personal" opinion?) All along, these pipes "WERE" the ones for my Birdie, Akra's wouldn't have looked as nice as these do. I'll post a picture of the end result as soon as I can time the sunlight to show the carbon fibre pattern and how it matches with the rest of the bike, am trying today, but the sun isn't co-operating yet? lol Also, as soon as a good friend of mine has time, we're going to make a video of how it sounds under acceleration, I'll share it with ya's here, my iphone doesn't at all bring the full effect of the sound from it. Thought I'd share, hope I can figure out how to upload pics on here, I know I tried to upload one of my bike for a member pic and it wouldn't, i'll try again.
