Thomas
Have 20,000 km on bike. Honda recommends valve inspection at 25. It's winter here so ,bikes in a million pieces anyway. Any tips out there?
Redbird
Don't bother would be the best tip I could think of. Might be worth checking a bit down the road just for laughs, but an XX with valve clearances out of spec at that milage is unheard of. Northman
I've got 39K on mine, and have never checked them. The engine is coming apart in the next couple of weeks, so they will be checked then, and I'll let you know what I find, if anything. Mikey
I've got 89K on mine and have checked them. Once, last year, didn't need adjustment. Close, but not necessary at the time. This time, yes. I'll do it in a couple weeks.
XXTi
I checked mine at 14.4K miles. None of them needed adjustment.
Pete in PA
I've checked mine twice now, always in spec. It's still good to check. North, why is yours coming apart?
Sk8boardIL
so when do you guys recommend checking the clearance? 40-50k?
Northman
North, why is yours coming apart? Just increasing the fun factor.
XX4me
 Valve Adjustment? We don't neeed no stinkin valve adjustment.
Jette
Has ANYONE checked the valves on schedual? I'm thinking of doing my first one at 16k...
Redbird
There have been enough guys that have and reported no need for ajustment that a lot of guys (myself included) choose not to waste the money/effort at 16k. I'll probably check mine at 32k (or a little beyond, should hit 32 sometime around mid-summer  ) just for giggles, but expect them to be pretty much spot on, as has been reported by others. Pete in PA
Actually Jette, 16k IS on schedule. Considering the fact that there is no "break in" valve check when parts are wearing in to each other shows the reliability of this valve system. I will continue to check when I should (or close to it) but expect to never swap a shim.
erixx
i have 75.00 km on the counter and never needed it. I did ask my mecanic, but he says no need.
poida
just had the valves checked at 80 000 klms mainly for peace of mind.mech reckoned they were right in the middle of the tolerances.can,t ask for better than that.if the bikes apart get them checked and you at least know you won,t need to check them again for at least a couple of years
birdrunner
timely thread. My bird is sitting at 32,000 km ( 20,000 mi ). I was planning on having the valves checked, but now I'm wondering if it's worth it. I'd really rather spend the money on a Penske. Is there any way other than taking engine apart to check them? ie how can you tell when they need adjustment?
RodeRash
Spend the money on the Penske
XXTi
I vote Penske too.
Thomas
Thanks for all the input guys. You talked me out of it. Actually the Honda dealer also said don't bother.
birdrunner
Excellent, screw the valve adjustment, now the only question is Penske or Ohlin? ( I know there's a thread on this elsewhere, I'll look it up )
