bar end removal...

I did grab the bar end. I've never seen anytihing like this. I'm afraid my last resort may be to use a vice grip to hold it while I TRY to bust it loose. I've never had one this tight and i'm just afraid to strip the phillips head.

They have red locktite on them. As Don said, you have to hold the external weight. It is keyed into the internal weight to keep from spinning. If you use vice grips, be sure to wrap it with something first!

Also, be sure you have a proper philips size bit.

You might try an impact driver. If you haven't seen one, it's not a pneumatic device. It's a handheld device that one hits with a hammer. The hammer blow forces the bit into the screw, turns the driver and breaks the screw loose.
