jon haney
An experienced fellow racer said that seven seasons of drag racing is way longer than recommended before replacing. Don't really want to spend the dough for aftermarket. "Low-mileage" means anything under 30K unless it's had a real hard life......like mine. Also interested in inner hub for same. HANKSXXX
Jon, I have a complete clutch assembly from a carbed (97-98) BB. Ask your drag race buddies if that would be an bolt in upgrade. You'd end up with 9 plates instead of seven and 5 springs instead of 6. I know on the Turbos that an early clutch is preferable as it will hold 250HP with HD Barnett springs. The later clutch seems to give up sooner and most guys go to a lockup. It's just a thought anyhow so if it checks out and you're interested, get in touch... Hank Yes, I have a lock-up, so I have to go with the 6 spring model. BTW, I have no drag racing peers who are running a blackbird. I catch a lot of shit just running a Honda. They only make fun of me cause I keep taking their money.

XX4me
Either clutch will work unless you have a lock up. Difference is just the number of steels and disks. To stop slippage I ran a '98 clutch in my '02 turbo before I went with a Falicon billet job. Wanted the higher number of steels and plates in conjunction with heavier aftermarket VTX springs. It worked, no more slips past 235hp.

XX4me
Hank I don't remember modifying anything, seems like it just swapped out.
HANKSXXX
Hank I don't remember modifying anything, seems like it just swapped out. Thanks Forrest...when you coming east? Some people take out the judder spring and have to machine a steel disc and add a fiber or something like that. It's supposed to make the clutch more controllable for drag racing. Come to think of it, mighta been Dean who mentioned that. Just wondering about street use, which you've answered... I believe there was a discussion of the mod you are referring to.
