EVLXX
I had the original battery for my '03 Bird give up after about 1 year. I inquired about this at a local dealer. The head of maintenance Parts Sales also happened to own a late model bird and was well familiar with the issue. He stated that the batteries included with later model birds were more amperage, but smaller overall. Meaning that the plates were closer together. Additionally, there were some kind of electronics added to the later model battery. All of this added up to a less reliable battery. His recommendation was to use the battery for the original birds. The only modification necessary was to remove two rubber spacers at the bottom of the battery compartment to accommodate the the oem smaller battery. The older style battery had the side benefit of being half the price. I said sold. It's been working without a hitch for the past five years and still going strong. There I fixxed that for you.... He's good at his job.
Jaygermeister
Ok I finally ordered a battery. Stock came with the Yuasa YT12A-BS it has or had cca of 175. I ordered the upgrade Yuasa YTZ14S with a cca of 230 this should do the trick. I’ve been reading the Suzuki dealers have been known to over cook new batteries and in turn shorten their lives. You ever wish Honda would make a 1400cc hyper tourer? sigh.
RC Randy
Good choice for going with the higher AH battery. I don't know about you 2nd generation Busa, but the 1 gen, especially the early years need the extra CCA. They (my 2002 included) were notorious for breaking engine cases due to starter kick back from weak batterys. The first thing I did to mine was install the same battery you used, and a sleeve to go over the engine boss that Schnitz Motorsports sells. My XX has the same battery also. azbird
I'm a big fan of the Odessey batteries and have them in 3 of my 5 bikes and when the Blackbird needs one I'll find an Odessey that fits it and Batteries Plus is about as cheap as anyone. He's good at his job. Yes, P. T. Barnum would be proud.
lensmanxx
My SV came with a Yuasa- it failed six months after I bought the bike- just outside of the warranty. Find another manufacturer.
