testrider
Hi, After reading all the problem of regulator/rectifier, even though my 97 XX's still works fine, I'm thinking that may be it's a good idea to keep a spare just in case. Looking at ebay, there are several for CBR 600/900/F2/F3, I think all CBR (600/900/1100XX) use the same regulator/rectifier? It seems so as I looked at http://www.electrexusa.com/ and the same part number is listed for all CBRs. I just like to confirm it with you guys before I start looking for one on ebay. Thanks. -Mike-
birdie_xx
I don't think that's right. When you look here http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/frames.cfm?c...ogfile=200_0351 , you'll see there are three different RR's between the years of XX alone. The '99/'00 and '01/'03 look like they have the same plug though... The 600 and 900 CBR's have all different plugs and RR's... The 954 and '01/'03 XX look similar, but have different part numbers... you may be able to retrofit them, same as the R1 RR. Needs some plug modification. blkbrdrydr
The 01/03 OEM rr seems like a much better deal than the aftermarket one
testrider
I emailed Ron Ayres and they told me that it's $207 for the improved regulator for my 97 XX (part # 31600-MY7-305 $207.41! Where did you guys get it for < $100? -Mike-
Involute
I paid $65 or so for an R1 Reg/Rec from a local aftermarket supply shop.
birdie_xx
part # 31600-MY7-305 This is the original part for the '97/'98 ! It was actually replaced by 31600-My7-600 which on Ron Ayers web site is $141 !!! When you look at the '99/'00 , that part is $96.20. The improved - better cooling RR from '01-'03 is $85.96 !!!! I don't know who you talked to but he was wrong. The '99-'03 RR has a different plug !!! So you'd have to rewire it . Cheers,

testrider
THanks guys. What year of R1 regulator can I use? I looked on ebay and there are several: some with 2 plugs and some with 1 plug. Anybody knows what kind of modification do I need if I get a 01-03 XX regulator for my 97 XX? Thanks again. -Mike-
bajjer9
as per my local yammie dealer 99-01 use the same R/R...mine came from an 01...all i had to do was remove the terminals from the plastic connector of the wiring harness, put em on and tape em up...heres a good write up on it http://www.vlc.com.au/~justin/about/bikes/...eg_replace.html
testrider
Thanks again. You are right. I looked on ebay and 2002 and up R1 regulator has 2 plugs while 01 and earlier has 1 plug. I think I'm going to get one for spare. -Mike-
testrider
I just checked on ebay and there are several used R1 regulator. However, when I asked if there is any warranty that they work, they all replied that they are sold as is. For electronics items, I found it doesn't sound reasonable to buy something as is without even any warranty that it'll work. I guess if that's the standard practice, I can put my dead laptop ($2000 new and now dead, value at $0), dead hard drives ($250 new and now dead value at $0) on ebay and sell them for $50 as is. Geez! -Mike-

Redbird
He mentioned the 02's and up have a larger better cooling R/R. has anyone with an 02' actually had an R/R go out? My '01 has the newer style R/R, so I believe it's the '01 model and up- and no, I can't recall anyone posting about the newer unit failing. I could be wrong, though. silverbird1100
I just checked my r/r wiring harness and it looks great just like the one in that link above. This is very encouraging since I fried my stator (turned it black) in only 12,000 miles.
