CALCXX
His 2001 XX starts and idles high @ cold. When the temp gauge begins to show 100 degrees, it falls "off" the high idle and then dies. When it's up to temp, all is fine. What gives?
tomek
Inspect, clean and possibly adjust wax element. It opens and closes bypass circut ( starter valves) in throttle body assembly. What is the idle speed on fully warmed up engine ?.Perhaps is too low, that is why it dies at 100 F.
waytooslow
Make sure that the idle screw is not backed out to far - I know it sounds simple, but it can happen. Trust me I know. It may be a simple as that.
CALCXX
Once warm, it idles @ 1100. I don't know what a "wax element is" Where is it located? I love my 98 carbs. LOL
tomek
http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycl...x-2001/o/m10716 then scroll down to Throttle Body, parts 8,9 and 10. His bike might be in the need of tune up, new spark plugs, valve adjustments and starter valves synchronization. ( technically in case of XX throttle bodies don`t get adjusted, just air bypass circuits,a.k.a. starter valves )
cbrxxquad
I had good results cleaning the rods, found one sticking, once, and seams to be much better now. The wax unit, as I understand it has wax in it that expands when cool to open the rods to allow more air in when cold. If stuck, like mine was, when the ECU sees warm coolant and starts to lean, will over lean, due to the valve being stuck open and die, even though the wax unit had heated and allowed the rods to return. Now that was a really well done run on sentence.

The final detail that made it work properly was the adjustment of the linkage. It turns out that even thought the wax unit would expand properly, it would move it "off" high idle too soon. ( I think I'm reporting this correctly? ) He said the high idle is all the way off @ 140 degrees. It was all off about 100 degrees. MUCH BETTER now. Ely and myself also sends thanks to Johns Bike Bits for the speedy delivery of the CCT's (2) (one for me one for Ely) Thanks Guys.
