Involute
Do any of you have experience with any of the pills on the market to help block carb absorption? Say perhaps for Thanksgiving dinner or other binge inducing occasions? :?:
spEEdfrEEk
Do any of you have experience with any of the pills on the market to help block carb absorption? Say perhaps for Thanksgiving dinner or other binge inducing occasions? :?: To be honest, I would avoid these like the plague. They allow sugars to pass the entire length of the intestine without being properly handled by the correct enzymes. The net effect is that bacteria in the digestive tract have a large amount of substrate to feed on, etc. I think that those pills could lead to things like intestinal cancer, chrone's disease, IBS, etc. if used over any significant period of time. Just my $0.02  TJ
SwampNut
Good point. I think he was talking about infrequent use for days of indulgence, though. Used two times a month, let's say for example, you think there could be long term effects? And what you're saying is that they really do work? How much (IE, what ratio is blocked)? Involute
I read the bottle on some that were at Sears. It stated that it blocks up to 35 carbs. I was hoping for more. But yes, Carlos is correct. I was considering them only for occasional use.
spEEdfrEEk
Used two times a month, let's say for example, you think there could be long term effects? Probably not.. My guess is that you may get a little bit of gastro-intestinal distress the next day, though. Specially if you've been low-carb for a while. Generally these things work by inhibiting enzyme production.. But hey, you could prolly get some wicked farts that way -- if you've got someone you want to offend for fun  TJ

SwampNut
Me too. And I miss being able to fart. You just lose all those lovely bacteria when you're low-carb. I had Thai food yesterday, with about 75g of carbs in rice. Dropped some good hangers at Lowe's in the power tool dept. I know those guys can appreciate it.
