SLyFoXX
Question regarding installing a chain. When I press the rivet on how tight do you smash the damn thing? I thought someone had said at one time to be careful not to press it on too tight.
Redbird
1/4 turn short of splitting the rivet. Duh. Now, are you talking about pressing on the side plate, or staking the rivet itself? If you're anal about it (and I'm guessing you are, going by your engine warmup routine), specs should be avalaible from the manufacturer. You'll need a micrometer. Zero Knievel
I've always used clamps to close the master link to the same size as the neighboring ones and make sure I get good solid dimples on both rivets. That's usually good enough.
redxxrdr
The manual gives a spec for the two chains that were OEM. I don't have it in front of me right now. The spec is supposed to come with the chain too, but I never find it. I just go back to the Service Manual. Harbor Freight carrys a digital caliper. I plan to get one soon. My old eyes don't do as good with the dial type. Take it slow and measure often. With the Jumbo tool, it is real easy to split the stakes.
