Avon Scare

I took a look at my front Avon and just about shit my pants. There is what appears to be a cut at about a 45 degree angle all the way across the tread. This "cut" looks like it's where the tread comes together. There are fibers/cords/filaments sticking through the "cut". The tire has about 3000 miles on it and is in good shape otherwise.

I'll do some measurements tomorrow and contact Avon about the problem. Take a good look at your tires before your holiday ride tomorrow.

I'm sure going to ask Avon to replace the tire. It doesn't really look like road damage. It looks more like a manufacturing defect.

Here's a couple of pics of my front tire. It has between 3/32" and 4/32" tread depth left. It started with about 6/32".

That second photo definitely lends itself to conclude a manufacturing defect.... while anything is possible, IMO it's not likely that cords emerging from the tread in this manner are the result of hitting road debris....

I agree. I don't think I hit anything that could cause this.
