Only evidence I have is on the way back from TN my voltmeter was reading as low as 12.8v@ ~4500rpm and dropping to below 11v@ idle. No abnormally high readings, so maybe the stator? It normally reads ~14.5v at anything over 4000rpm and around 12.8 at idle. It returned to normal readings about 20 miles from my house. No problems starting or running the bike. Also...as you said...the detector can only report on the information it has...so if the voltage was low because of poor contact to the detector, that may be it...hence checking with a VOM. Gonna go over the connectors, including the one the the detector/voltmeter and then see if it happens again. If it were the R/R, I would expect spikes as well as drops in voltage, no? Dion, at least it's a relatively simple fix. Fuck the shop, order the stator and a new gasket and slap it in there.
