Guys,

I'm going to be making a trip to Louisiana in the next couple on months and I'm going to need a good RADAR detector and mount. Any suggestions?

Just one - Valentine 1. There is a steering stem mount that supposedly works well, but I actually use the standard suction cup mount on the screen (having cleaned both cups and screen very well before sticking) set off to the side so I can see all the guages.

I have the Escort Passport 8500. Awesome unit. You can program it to disable any of the bands individually, but separate from the city/highway settings. When was the last time you were hit by a cop using X band??

I hung it from the windscreen, dead center, using the suction cup mount and a few short stainless allen bolts and "sealing washers". I got the washers at HomeDepot. They have a thin rubber layer bonded to one side. It only comes with a cigarette lighter plug "smart cord", so you need to order a hardwire cord ($10 extra), without the smart remote function. Also, the visor mount ($4 extra) would work better than the suction cup when bolting to the windscreen. I will probably try that if I ever remount on another screen. Otherwise, you have to bend the suction mount around something to make it U-shaped. This keeps it parallel to the screen so you can see it better, and still see the guages.

In my 4-wheelers, I have a couple of Whistler DE1785. They are cheaper than the Escort. You can disable X-band by going into City-2 mode. They hang from a similar suction cup bracket, and could probably also be bolted to the screen. I hung them from a shelf in my truck. I hate the suction cups.

Ran into a guy that had one of these on a 2003 GSXR1000, he had a V1, in a steering stem stand--looked kind of trick---I have the 8500 too works great--X- Band is also programmed out

This "alert" system is pricey but wireless, they dude said it worked awesome--it would be nice to get rid of the wires for the audio
