  1. Birdman, you have the same weight as me. Could you post a review after you try out your Penske shock? I may get the same one. Where are you in Socal? I'm in West Covina. Thanks. =mike= Just my personal experience and I'm sure some may disagree: If your weight is more than 180, you will probably see a big improvment from just changing your fork springs and oil (cheapest mod). I weigh about 170 and didn't see a big difference in the front end from just changing springs (changed at about the same milage your at). Some change but, when I had the valving rework, then it was night and day (cost $440 including new spring, oil etc.). Most have said the biggest change comes from a different shock but it's also the most espensive. Can't comment on that yet as I'm in the process of installing the shock. YMMV.
  2. Lindemann Engineeering has them for $715 set up for your weight and riding style. Plus Jim is a great guy to work with. Lindemann Suspensions Is that the 8981? It didn't say on their web site. Also, does it have ride height adjustment too? And how important is it that it doesn't have high-speed compression/rebound? Thanks.
  3. Thanks. I'm also 5'10. With my Helibar and Givi screen, the wind hits me about from my neck up.
  4. In the highest position, where did the wind hit you by sitting normally? And how tall are you? Thanks.
  5. Cycle Gear is having a sale of $160 for a set of front/rear Diablo Supersport tires. Is this is a good tire as far as traction and thread life? Thanks.
  6. Here is my 97 XX with a Givi screen and Givi tail bag: [attachmentid=4043]
  7. I'm pursuing the same thing. I have Helibar on my 97 XX but it's still not tall enough. I'm 5'10. I also have a Givi screen and the wind hits me from the upper chest up. I have 3 Givi hard cases. I think I will try a set of Convertibars to get an upright riding position. Then I'll need to find a taller screen than the Givi...
  8. Ok, may be I should replaced mine after 30k miles. Mine is also a 97. After Dotetcher got his, anybody has a stock low mileage shock that fits a 97? (No, I don't want to go thru the trouble of getting a 900RR shock and then need to find a spring and then had to have somebody install the spring) Thanks! PS: If not, who has the best price on an Ohlin shock?

    seafoam

Is Seafoam oxygen-sensor safe? It didn't say anything on its can or its web site so I think it implied that it isn't safe for car oxygen-sensor and catalytic converter? Is it safe to use on cars?
  10. Thanks for the info. I just checked it out. Where does it say free shipping? This is what they said on their web page: "We ship using FedEx, UPS and the USPS. Our shipping and handling fees are as low as we can get them , however, shipping costs do fluctuate so shipping charges can change without notice. " It doesn't sound like "no shipping"?
  11. I'm going to order 3 sets from Motorcycle Accessories Warehouse. They usually have good prices but they do charge 4% (or $4.95 minimum) for handling. Then plus shipping. http://www.mawonline.com/ebc.htm#Brake%20pads It's $27.95 a set and it's EBC FA261HH for front and rear.
  12. What's the best source for some EBC pads?
  13. The "side cover" here is the small vertical one that covers the gap between the tank and the frame. You don't remove it completely, just pop off the rear where it attached to the fuel tank.
  14. It's pretty easy for the carb bike: - remove the seat - unsnap the plastic side cover (right by the sides of the tank). Just pop it out. - remove the 2 bolts that hold the tank - unplug the wire connector on the left side - using the tube in your tool kit to prop up the tank - there is a pet cock on the rear of the tank. Turn it off if you like but the fuel won't come out even you leave it on. The fuel will flow only when there is vacuum applied on the petcock. - now you can reach in to remove the 2 fuel hoses and 1 vacuum hose - now you can take the tank off by carefully slide it back
  15. Last night after work I stopped by Autozone and they do have Seafoam so I picked one up. Do I just mix it in my gas tank or do I also need to do the "use vacuum hose to suck it directly into the carb/intake"? I'm not sure I'm confortable with introducing liquid into the combustion chamber... Have any of you done this "vacuum sucking" step?
  16. You can call first before you go to make sure they have it where I live only a few stores stock it, AutoZone and Advance have it. Thanks guys, I'll stop by my local Autozone today after work to see if I can get some.
  17. Are there any autopart stores that carry seafoam or do you have to mail order? Thanks.
  18. Most people here use a Yamaha R1 regulator but you will have to do some work as it's not plug-and-play as OEM.
  19. Thanks. They look nice but it's so much more expensive! I didn't know that the fork tubes have to be raised for the clamp to fit. Raising 1/2" (or 12.7mm) on the front fork is a lot more than shimming 6mm on the rear, no? Any instability or the fender hitting the underside of the headlight on full compression?
  20. Dremel off the shaft that the nut rides on. I cut off about 1/4" or so when I put the Buell pegs on and it allowed the nut to backoff enough to lower the pedal. Did you cut off the "push rod", the one that pushes the rear brake pistion? I'm not sure how making it shorter will allow the pedal to go lower? Now the nut is as high as it could go. How does cutting the rod help the nut to go higher (so that the pedal will go lower)? Thanks again.
  21. Hi all, I like to lower my brake pedal a little bit more but the upper nut is already against the rubber boot. Is there a way to lower the pedal more? Thanks!
  22. Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. A few more questions: - are you still using the stock throttle cables? - Looks like you can still go higher if you want to? Thanks again!
  23. Thanks guys, please post some close up pictures if you could. My Helibar raised about 1.5" over stock. I really like to have another 1.5" more for touring. I already have longer Galfer hoses. On Convertibars.com, they have 3 types: 0 degree, 5, and 10. and they also have different length. If you could, please tell me which one you got? Thanks!
  24. Hi all, Does anybody here use Convertibars? How do you like it? I have Heli bars and Givi screen on my 97XX but I like to have a set of higher bars for long distance touring. How do you like it? Which length did you get? What degree bars you got? If you could post some close-up pics it'll be great. The ones on convertibars.com are not very clear. Thanks! -mike-
  25. Thanks, John, I'm in US and a while ago, there was a group buy on X11 CCT here on this board and I bought one and installed it on my 97 XX.
