  1. James, I looked at the link you posted and that seems to be the '97/'98 XX. The newer ones have a round plug, so the R1 R/R would require modiffications... O'k, I finally used my meter ( http://www.bigbikeparts.com/eshopprod_cat_..._Volt_Meter.htm ) to see what's wrong (as if I know what I'm doing ! ). The battery was charged up and it showed 13.5 V before turning the key. Once runing, the meter showed 12.5V and dropped when brake applied. No changes when I reved the engine, nor change in the brightness of the headlight (which shined bright BTW - those HID's are very sensitive to voltage !) So it seems the bike is not charging.... Any simple method (without any disassambly) to determine wheather it's the stator or the R/R ? I imagine the R/R would go first, right ? Or should I just go safe and replace both ???? The bike has almost 80K..... Has anyone put the newer ('01-'03) R/R in the older bike ? I can get a good price on one, close to the Yamaha - not quite, but close.... Thanks ! Cheers,
  2. Tha battery is maybe three months old..... Cheers,
  3. Is it the '01 R1 R/R that fits ? Can you use the newer R/R, from the '01-'03 XX ? Has anyone done that ? As I recall, few wires need to be switched on the R1 R/R, correct ? Cheers,
  4. I rather grab someone with the meter.... Unless I can use this. Can I ?! http://www.aerostich.com/product.php?produ...&cat=270&page=1 I bought this a while ago and still haven't made the bracket/mount for it ... If I had it plugged in, maybe I'd see the troubles coming..... Jeff, ready to design me a bracket ?!  Cheers,
  5. Thanks guys ! 8) Like I said, I didn't feel like searching the problem tonight. Is there a better chance it's the stator or the R/R ? I'll charge the battery and see what happens. Cheers,
  6. Maybe I'm in the same boat as in this tread... http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/forum/viewt...pic.php?t=23771 I went out for a ride. All was good, the bike run great. Then I stopped for couple of hours. On my way back, at some point, I notticed that my t.signal indicators are dim and maybe blink slower... Together with the push of the t.signal switch, I notticed that the dials of the speedo and the tach, drop to zero and come back to show the speed and RPM's... A bit worried I turned of the high beam, thinking that may help. I nottice next, that my low beam (HID) went out !!! Now I'm at the huge traffic jam, past the toll booths. I flip the h-beam to have the front light. Next trying all different switches and such, I notticed that when pressing the start button, the HID starts to flicker, and stays if I rev the bike over 3K... Then it stops, the h-beam dims, the dials drop to 0 and the bike dies.... Good thing I was next to the shoulder... I end up on it. I thouht of pick-up truck owners, I call couple of you (no luck).... After few minutes just sitting there, I try the key again and the lights in the dash are brighter. I can hear the igniter kicking in as well. I unplugged the low beam, and push start the bike. It fires up and off I go, trying to stay in the RPM's....Couple of miles later, the bike dies again. I remove the fuses from all the accessories I have. Push it again and it starts again and I make the last few blocks to my garage. Now I'm pissed off, that I have to worry about it and figure out what's wrong. The battery is only couple of months old, but the bike is close to 80K. If it's just the R/R, then it will be simple. If it's the stator, then there is more to it. But if they are okay, than I have a short somewhere and it may take a while to find...... But I don't feel like dealling with it today.... Cheers,
  7. O'k, after hard and painful (to me) deliberation, readding maaaany both good and stupid tire posts across few boards, I decided to give Pirelli Diablo Strada a try.... I hope I won't be disapointed, because I have to "work" really hard to afford them ! $200.80 for the set, delivered from Dennis Kirk (I mean they should be here Wednesday...) BTW, their website is a bit inacurate. The tires are in stock........ So I was told. We'll see. Cheers,
  8. Click here Joe.... http://www.blackbirdspares.co.uk/identify/..._view/BBS23.jpg but you have to contact them if interested... http://www.blackbirdspares.co.uk/identify/index.html Cheers,
  9. Thanks guys 8) BTW, check the tire package deals here.... http://www.compacc.com/category.cfm?Category=1244 add $20 shipping for the final cost. They are the same people as Tire Express.... yet the prices varry. Then call Dennis Kirk and buy for $1 less.... Cheers,
  10. Yeah, but his TL is no XX and he doesn't ride with GIVI's.... Cheers,
  11. I think they are to "sporty" for my riding style..... BTW, Pilot Roads - $226 per set.... Cheers,
  12. I'm due for a new set and although I like the Pilot Road a lot, I'd like to try something different. Here are the contenders... Pirelli Diablo Strada - $204 per set.... Continental Road Attack - $222.90 per set... Continental Contiforce Max - $215.75 per set.... Anyone has any experiance with these ? Thanks,
  13. You have to be more speciffic, John.... The originall, 06140-MAT-305 had one green dot. The newer, 0614-MAT-315 has two dots.... And the newest ?! Is that what you sell ? The 14520-MAT-E21 ??? If you sell the newest one at $33.85 than that's a great price. I was told about $42 with my discount..... Cheers,
  14. Mine got loud again so I ordered a new one. Did you know that HONDA has a new part ? I ordered the 06140-MAT-315 @ $35.65 which we have known existed. But there is a new kit for the last XX models. The p# is 14520-MAT-E21 and I didn't order it because of the new price. The MSRP on the new kit is......$62.99 ! As you can imagine, it had to be ordered, so I can't tell you how diferent it is and why such a price change. I'll investigate more. In the meantime, the new "older" kit will go in..... BTW, I wonder why ronayers.com doesn't show the new part.... Cheers,
  15. I have the Autocom Pro M1, now old model. And I can only hear a bit of back noise, when the phone is charging and I actually make a call.... Other than that the set up is quiet ! I plug the Boostaroo for the stronger output. I thought that just my MP3 is not to loud, but was told that all harddrive MP3's are like that. Apparently they save battery power by limiting the volume... The XM radio is louder in fact. The Autocom has the intercom built in, so no worries in the future. It's headset comes with the microphone as well. But you could unplug it if you don't want to use it. If you contact Autocom http://www.autocomamerica.com/docs/home.cfm , they should be able to tell you who makes the earbud headset for their units. For pure music, the earphones are suppose to give you better, dirrect sound. The Autocom doesn't make/sell them though. There is someone else and I forgot who does that. I think some other company (may be the Starcom or Motocom), makes kits that are expandable and they start with just the headphones..... If music is all you need though, I'd start with the ~$19 KOSS earbuds from Radio Shack http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...%5Fid=33%2D1167 ... If you want to go more fancy than maybe try these... http://www.aerostich.com/product.php?produ...&cat=337&page=1 But if you want to transmit, then it's a different story BTW, if you look at the Ayutocom, check the Active 7 Smart. Way less expensive with almost all the same features. There is no portable power supply, but since I switched to the bike - power, I haven't used the 9V battery anyway.... Cheers,
  16. Try this. Move the bar end to the "full open" position. Loosen up the bolt holding it. Tap the end of the allen wrench a bit (pushing the whole set "in"). Tighten the bolt and check if it changed anything..... (repeat if neccessary....) You said the friction sleve is not slipping on the throttle tube, right ? Cheers,
  17. I could, but then I might get in troubles.... Cheers,
  18. There are bike speciffic driving lights. Or you can modify any car lights, from your K-Mart, Wall-Mart or Target..... The bike speciffic may be more durable.... and for example the Motolights ( http://www.motolight.com/ ) offer life time warranty - IIRC. The ST1300 is the closest to the XX set-up..... Sport-Touring Accessories (Deal's Gap store) sell Electrical Connection lights, specific for the ST1300, which might work on the XX.... http://www.sporttouringusa.com/www/ST1300.htm The ST set up is close but not the same. CAPPEL put the Motolight on his XX and I know he likes them, but he needed to modify something... At the HOOT, Motolight people came to look at my bike. They had someone on the phone who had problem mounting the lights on the XX. Our left and right fork legs are different. But they said they could mount it to the fender bolts ...You could call them to ask. They come brushed, black powder coat, polished & chrome... BTW, both sets are the driving lights, not fog lights.... Cheers, P.S. He, he..... 2equis beat me to it.....
  19. My switches (heated grips and the 4 way, plus the Jastek plug) are mounted here.... And I think I used a 10amp fuse. I think that what the regullar t.signal fuse is. You shouldn't put one in larger than the OEM... Cheers,
  20. I have the 4 way flasher mode....home made. You'd need a simple flasher ($2-$3 from car parts store). Hook it up to the battery (I also used an in-line fuse). You'll need a double pull- double throw switch, but one pair of the connectors will be unused. You run the " + " wirethrought the fuse and flasher to the center pair of the connectors in the switch. Choose either upper or lower pair to attach wires that will run to the left and right t.signals..... Here is a link to a similiar set up, except they used a double pull - single throw switch...... http://www.roadstarmagazine.com/gt_4wayflash.shtml When you hook it up this way, the flashers work with the ignition on or off, which is what I wanted.... Cheers,
  21. When/if you get "tired" of the foam grips, you may want to try these rubber grips.... http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/prod...t_id~768036.asp I've heard they are very comfortable ..... Cheers,
  22. ...and possibility to retrofit them to the XX. I wonder if this set up would work ? http://www.exoticsportbike.com/cb_9191.htm After all the 919 and the XX had the same Grandpa, right ? The CBR 900 RR......... They probably wouldn't clear my Givi's (although they work great on the 919 - stock exhaust though) ...but anyone want to try ?! Cheers,
  23. I wouldn't use it..... I didn't order the bling shock to hide it ! And when I get it (IF I GET IT !) I'll want everyone to see it......  Cheers,
  24. Maybe, just MAYBE.... like Nik, you shouldn't work on your own bike ! Good luck !
