  1. I made sure the oil I picked up didn't have moly in it. But thanks for the warning, better to be safe than sorry.
  2. Sweet picture BTW I really love the twistys on the road, have yet to see any better. Forsure, my parents still live in a small town there called Inverness, grew up there less than 30mins from the Cabot trail. Uncle lives less than 1mile from the start of it..
  3. I don't want to start another oil battle but I need a bit of advice. I have a 03 Bird (New a month ago) I did the first oil change about week or two ago, with just a hair under 1000Km on the clock. When I changed the oil I just used standard 4 stroke motor oil. Here's the kicker, I should have approx 2000-2500Km on the bike before the end of the month when I'm planning a trip across Canada. Yellowknife, NT to Nova Scotia. I plan on changing the oil before I leave, should I stick with standard 4 stroke oil or move to Mobil 1?????
  4. I installed a vista cruse a week ago. I just did cut off the ring at the end of the throttle, and epoxyed the vista cruse mount onto the swtich box. Works great and I didn't have to drill any holes. Also had to move the grip slightly back from the switch box to make the vista cruse fit in.
  5. Idea is pretty cool, but wouldn't a paper one filter out more stuff. For example absorb some water that could be in the oil.
  6. I put the yamaha filter on it's exactly the same as the honda model. Walmart up here sucks, didn't have that filter, remember I live in the sticks at the end of the road heading north.
  7. Had a problem today with a oil filter for the bird. Took my XX in to have my first oil change done at the shop and they were sent the wrong filter. Since I'm leaving on a short road trip Saturday I started the hunt for a oil filter by calling Riverside Honda in Edmonton. The parts guy there tells me that the XX filter is the exact same as the oil filter for his R6 and also the R1. From what I'm told it's the most popular filter out for sport bikes. Called my friend who is the Yamaha parts guy in town(at home cause it was after closing), and they have a few in stock I'll let you know tomorrow if it fits for sure.(Cross your fingers for me) Found a list of filters for the Yamaha R6, there for filters that should fit on our XX if anyone ends up with the same problem as me. 8. Don't know the brand, but I know where you can get one.... they should be able to tell u the brand if u really want to know http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/bird.htm BTW it would be cheeper to order it from Jaws that off ebay that the price currently shown.
  9. I'd use a relay, and take the power direct from the battery. But that's just me......
  10. It's been quite a while since I worked on electronics but it does look right for them to light. But I'm not sure if you'd have a running tail light and a brake light. I think you'd have the LED's on too bright with just the tail light running you might need bigger than 150Ohm resistors. Would be simple to check, a 9volt battery, 150Ohm resistor and 3 LED's.
  11. My guess is nothing..... Honda was smart enough to put a real set of wires on our XX....lol
  12. I don't know how much it would help, Honda designed the bike in the wind tunnel also. I'm sure they took mesures to make sure lots of air was moving into the radiator. Also keep in mind, the putting those flares on would also cause the bike to catch more air increasing the drag coefficient.... I'm not sure how much, but you'd be basicly losing HP......
  13. Download the service manual, Tech wire should be listed in it :-)
  14. Thanks for the info, I found a site with the diagrams how to build one. Think I may have to get out the electronics toys and build one, looks REALLY simple.....
  15. Thanks for the input guys, I know I'm gonna love this bike. As for the headlight modulator, what exactly do they do, and are they legal? Thanks
  16. I'm going to do my best not to drive on the road at all with my xx, have a few friends that I'll be doing most of my highway trips with and we got access to a custom made inclosed trailer. Still means we have to have someone drive us down until the end of the dirt, and pick us up though. It would be a bad idea to leave a truck and trailer along the highway, someone up here would ether attempt to steel it or smash it for fun. When you have to make plans to go for a drive on the highway chances are I'm not going to get much highway driving in until I leave for my trip. UGH, I gotta move south soon..!!!!!!
  17. My biggest problem is time in the saddle, I'm not going to in much time on the highway before I have to make the trip across Canada. I live in yellowknife (about 600Mile north of the arctic circle) and getting to the highway means at least the first 50 Km of the road south is a dirt road, they are in the process of paving and straightening it out. Unfortuneatly the construction is what's making it nasty. It's not uncomon to drive throw a few inches of mud on the road not to mention pot holes that will eat a bikes front wheel. Drove this road lots of time on a cruser, slow a steady dodgeing holes but not a sport bike, a sport bike it quite a bit lower and I don't think it will fair off as well in the mud. This is why I'm asking for input, on what mods I may want. Thanks
  18. I've got a decent detector, but it's only legal in two provs in Canada, so I'll have to ether take a chance and use it (hard to hide them on a bike)or pack it in the bag for most of the trip. Will definatly be getting a Camel back and some kinda cruse control setup.
  19. I want to up the front sprocket to 18T, how small can I go on the back sprocket to get some better gas mileage without loosing all my power? What do you guys recomend for suspension changes, got access to a shop and free professional labour........
  20. Givi's were ordered with the bike, cost + shipping from Givi, couldn't say no.... same for the corbin, and Two Bros!!!  Pays to have friends in the toy shops.....
  21. I haven't gotten my hands on a 1100XX yet, it's ordered should be here in the new few weeks. I'm looking for some input in setting up the bike for touring. I live in the middle of butt F#$k no where, so it takes time to get parts here... not over night delivery that's for sure... Hopefully I'm posting in the right spot?.. Any chance you guys and answer some Q's for me....? I am not a dumb ass when it comes to bikes so my Q?s shouldn't be too bad....lol I'm looking to set the bike up for highway driving, ordered a 3 piece set of Givi's, a Corbin seat(Gun figher and lady), set of two brothers C2 slip on's(needed a bark). If you want any more info, let me know and I'll give you the full story if you need more info, just need a play to throw up some suspension and gearing questions.
