  1. Totally uncool to respond to my own thread but I'll kick this off...
  2. I've been thinking about changing out my exhaust for no better reason than a different look and sound. I'm here to ask people to post pictures, links to pictures or media files of different systems and options. I've looked and can't seem to find a consolidated colletion so I figured I'd give it a whirl here.
  3. I've been on the South Beach diet for a month now with great results. I've lost 15 lbs and have way more energy than I did before. I wan't exactly fat but I topped out at 235 and want to get back down to 210. At that weight I'll be pretthy thin but muscular. None of my pants fit very well now as the belly fat was literlly "zapped". The thing about the South Beach diet is the food is really very good, it is easy to get suitable meals in restaurants and on the go and the long term health benefits are (in my opinion) much better than Atkins. Highly recommended!
  4. I ended up calling SouthWest Moto Tires and ordering from them. The price was only ten dollars more and I already have them in my garage. The set they sent me is nice and fresh, just baked a couple of months ago.
  5. The new BT014's are supposed to be much better than the 010's and last longer. I've also heard good things about the Pilot Roads. Personally I just ordered a set of Continental Road Attacks to try. They are making inroads into the Sport-Touring market and have very good reviews in several publications.
  6. Never tried one but for $119 it better do a damn good job!
  7. That would be strange if all they did was replace fluids. They'd have to remove the instrument gauge to dislodge one of those rubber thingies!
  8. I looked up shipping and it said $24 but when I went through the check-out process it calculated shipping as $157. I guess I won't be ordering from those guys.
  9. I've noticed the gauge cluster seems to be a bit loose when I hit smaller bumps and yesterday decided to do something about it. With the fairings off I can grab the guage cluster and "wiggle" it in the mounts. There are four bolts holding it on and each bolt has a rubber bushing that, I can only assume, is supposed to absorb any shock. The problem is, there seems to be a bit of space left between the mounting tabs and the rubber washers. The bolts are tightened all the way down and the small space persists allowing the guage cluster to move on the mounting bolts about an 1/8th of an inch. Anyone every have this problem? Could the rubber mounts be the wrong size (gauge cluster was removed at a dealership when the steering head bearings were replaced)? Maybe they dried up and shrunk? Or is this just normal and I'm being obsessive?
  10. I've been looking at the Road Attacks as well. There is a pretty good review of them in the latest CW and the author praises their performance in the wet as well. I think I'll try a pair!
  11. I bought the bike used and the previous owner (at 22,000) said he had replaced the plugs (and steering head bearings). I'm just a little obsessive and want to make sure everything is optimal. Plus, I like to get my hands dirty.
  12. I want to perform a major service on my bike but don't have a good idea what should be done. I'm thinking all fluids, new brake pads and a thorough, plastic off cleaning. Does anyone have suggestions for other things I should be looking at? Mine is a '97 with 27,000 miles.
  13. My rear tire has a nasty flat spot but the front is cherry. Anyone used a Sport-front/Road-rear combo or know of people who have? Does it work?
  14. Awesome. Thanks all. I've got the Haynes manual and nowhere does it specify the filter type or size.
  15. I want to use something other than the stock Honda oil filter (since the dealer is never open when I'm available). Anyone know the filter part # for a good, high qaulity replacement?
  16. When the bike is cold there is considerably more noise from the cluthc plates than when it is warm. If I start it cold and release the clutch you can really hear what is going on down there. At first I worried but now that I've listened to other Birds I realize I'm just hyper-sensitive to noise eminating from my XX.
  17. At least as far back as 1999 Honda has always had two model codes each year for the XX. I can't say for sure but it might have something to do with the CA/non-CA models. 1999 CBR11XXLX CBR11XXX 2000 CBR11XXLY CBR11XXY 2001 CBR11XX1 CBR11XXL1 2002 CBR11XX2 CBR11XXL2 2003 CBR11XXL3 CBR11XX3
  18. On more thing, are there any forks from other Honda models that swap out easily?
  19. I've searched for and read all the threads on suspension mods and have decided to go with a new Penske shock. I'm still confused with what to do up front. I've seen lots of people with new springs, valves and oil but what options are there for adding adjustability? Can you replace the top caps with an adjustable type? My mechanical experience is limited to light bulb and oil changes as well as the odd minor engine tuning (I was able to execute a successful carb sync) so a lot of this is new ground for me.

    Clunk?

When I first got the bike I suspected the sound was coming front the instrument pod because it seems to really move on its mounts when I'm on a rough surface. The more I listen the more confused I become...

    Clunk?

Nope, not me. Wheelies are not my bag baby!

    Clunk?

I'm suffering from the same clunk in the front end. The bearings were replace a year ago and I'm at a loss as to what is is. I don't want to spend the $ to have a dealership look at it. Since it is a 97 with 25,000 miles maybe I'll just have the forks torn down and re-valved, springed, etc. Thoughts?
  23. OK, that looks promising. I'll try it...
