  1. No worries Vern, thank you for the first shot at it, wish I had been in a position to take you up on the offer.
  2. I sold the harness from the 2000 that I parted out. His current harness is full of corrosion. he started stripping back in all directions and stopped at a foot on multiple wires so gave up and decided to buy a new main harness from Honda but found out they are no more. He may end up doing a complete rewire himself but looking for a useable replacement instead. According to Honda it has to be a 1999 or 2000 harness to work(same part number). In 2001 the Bird went digital so don't know if a 2001-2003 digital harness will work.
  3. Vern, I am very interested but have to wait till next month for financial reasons. If you have not sold it by then we will talk. I want to pick something up by RacerXX time!
  4. Local friend here in So Florida has a 1999 Bird with an FI light so went to do the standard corroded test block fix and discovered most of the wires in the harness are all black and corroded for at least a foot. He decided to just replace the harness but according to Honda the harness is no longer available for a 1999 or 2000 model. (discontinued) He owns two BlackBirds his 99 model and his wife also rides a Bird. He is very capable of completely rewiring the Bird but the time and labor hours would be intense to say the least. Anyone know of a source for a harness or a solution to the problem, short of a complete rewire?
  5. Looking for a steal on a CBR600RR with the inverted front suspension. Maybe someone will run across something, during the winter, in desperate need of some cash. Looking to stay under $3000 and have a clear title. Would be a track bike for me but also street legal for local street fun all year round here in So. Florida.
  6. Welcome, hope you can put it to good use. It has been in my closet for a couple years.
  7. New in box - never installed driver CD - mounting hardware instruction booklet etc Best price I found was 30 bucks $10.00 shipped USPS
  8. yes if you have it The paper gasket gets pulled on each time the cover goes off and back on and I did that on/off cycle 4 times! The bolts worked really well and they align the lower alignment dowel and the starter reducer gear pin quick and easy as well as holding gasket in the proper place. The bolts were cheaper than the Hi-tack spray. just hi-tack one side so you can remove/replace. Your old lady's hair spray would work too, and its cheaper still.... So now you want me to buy women's hair spray? I don't have an old lady!!! I got rid of all by motorcycles and stuff to marry my wife and 8 years later I divorced and traded her in for a CBR1000F and never looked back.
  9. Went riding today and I think I am going to like the Evans coolant but won't really be able to get a real test done until mid summer with 90 degree temps and traffic jams!
  10. requesting neckid pictures? You pervert!

  12. Thanks guys, I was to quick to ask before trying google. Coolant flush done and now full of Evan's waterless coolant. Going for a ride to circulate the coolant a bit and then come back home and let it cool and then burp and top off. Then reinstall cowlings!
  13. Is the coolant drain plug located on the right side down low and is a large allen bolt?
  14. The mystery is solved!! After three tries I decided to remove the new stator and fire it up and see if there was a noise but upon removing the side cover the forth time I discovered the 4 stator retainer bolts had vibrated loose and the magnetic rotor was causing the stator itself to oscillate making the clattering sound I was hearing. I must admit that I must not have tightened them down properly although I would like to believe that they just vibrated loose......yea yea that the ticket they vibrated loose!!! Anyway all tightened up and she is purring again. I did speak with a retired harley mechanic friend and he made a great suggestion. I was having trouble getting the gasket to stay in place while putting the cover on so by his suggestion I ran over to Home Depot and bought a pair of 6mm x 3" long bolts. ground off the heads and screwed them into the case first. then slid the gasket over the two bolts and over the bottom alignment dowl. The gasket now stays exactly where it is suppose to be while I align the stator cover over the protruding bolts. Cover slides right on perfectly aligned and the magnetic rotor hold it all together. Unscrew the long bolts by hand and insert all the stock 6mm bolts. Works like a champ especially if you have to remove the cover 4 times!! here is a picture with one of the bolts still screwed in and the over laying on the cover for length reference.
  15. last night I finished installing a new Ricks stator in my 01 Bird Everything went smooth Got the starter drive sprocket and alignment pin back in, new gasket and cover slide right on. Bolted it down and cranked it up and checked voltage - all good 13.2 at idle and 14.4 at 3500 rpm My problem is there is now a rattle noise coming from inside the cover that is very pronounced when blipping the throttle and especially when decelerating. Sounds like something is loose and vibrating but no noise when idling. I removed the cover again and checked everything and reinstalled two times now and still the same problem. I am now going to look up the parts fische and check to make sure I have not missed a shim or something that needs to be put in but I don't think so. I can not find any marks to show where anything is rubbing - no shinny spots on the rotor, stator or housing. Any suggestions ? Two pictures of what it looks like opened up
  16. I thought the stock compression was suppose to be 170-190 I will have to look it up o be sure
  17. I also have a running 2001 and would be willing to plug your ECU into my bike to check it out thoroughly if Florida is more convenient
  18. He is here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida If anyone is interested in buying it I will be happy to take a look and test ride it. It was at the dealership where I worked a few months back. I spoke with John at length yesterday about the accident and the cost to repair the Bird.
  19. Very cool and your son? Should be getting an info page up very soon with early registration. Pricing will be right this year as I had a year to get it better organized. Looks like it will be $135.00 per rider Hope to see you there
  20. Craig, Just remember to keep March 18th open for RacerXX attendance for these new riders. It is looking to be very economical this year at $135.00.
  21. Good speaking with you this afternoon John. Your best bet is to compare the sites of Honda Directline Service Honda Ron Ayers etc etc then take your best pricing (print outs) to Broward Motorsports (locally)and see if they will price match? If John or Andre at the parts counter balk ask to speak with Blake (Manager). Blake is a good guy and should do what it takes to get the sale. As we discussed post up here with needs you may have also. I appears that the mirror cover is no longer available from Honda in a Titanium color. You may be able to find a good used Titanium one here or on ebay.
  22. I have to do a similar procedure on my aftermarket "Stealth" rotors annually. Forget the lubricate on rotors. The brake cleaner works great. I stopped at Home Depot and picked up the correct size and style bolt to make the job easier Notice the bolt and nut have a washer with teeth so no extra washers are needed. 50cents cost. 1 in bolt and use a socket to spin the bobbin fast while spraying the brake cleaner. I find it most effective by using a helper to flood the bobbin while I am ratcheting the bolt as fast as I can to flush out debris

    Seat

There are "Seat Condoms" available by Bagster. I have one with the XX logo embroidered on it that I think looks very nice. I have a Fast Red Bird tho!!
  24. Harbor Freight has them on sale for $4.99 - just saying!
