  1. I think the frame is threaded, no nuts required (have fun with that one). As far as the springs go, I bought a couple from the hardware store for the one I added to the dragbike.
  2. I'm glad you guys had no issues with yours, because mine was a PITA. That inner sleeve did NOT want to come out. I won't ever do it again, I can promise you that. I'll buy a can off of ebay and make it work if necessary.
  3. Just placed my order with them for heated gear as well. Maybe the flush face emoticon was because you are now warmer as a result of his good service?
  4. Will it fit with no modifications to the bike? I'm interested but need more details about specs.
  5. That is a really nice bike. A friend of mine was looking over my shoulder at work and remarked about how nice it was. Then we both stopped and wondered how in the heck did you get your grass so green?!? I wish my yard looked that good!
  6. Does the 03 have the wiring loom problem? If so, that's where I'd look. Also, when my stator went out, it acted kinda like this, but you should have noticed a hard restart issue as it killed the battery.
  7. JB Weld and get one of those adhesive carbon fiber looking covers for it. No way for it to be seen, plus much less likely to split if crashed again.

    Keys

I'd take somebody the lock and the key blank number and see who'll do it. I got mine done that way for $35. When you tell them "motorcycle" is when they jack the price sky high.
  9. I own a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver and it is easily the greatest Snap-On tool I've ever bought. I've had it so long I can't even remember when I bought it. It is magnetic, and it has several different tips you can store in the handle. It was close to $50 when I bought it, but was worth every penny. I have literally shattered bits in that screwdriver trying to undo screws that apparently King Kong tightened, but the screwdriver still ratchets like the day I bought it. For the really tough jobs, I have a Dewalt 12 volt 1/2" impact with a reducer that holds a screwdriver bit. It will break the head off of whatever is being stubborn.
  10. The fuel pressure regulator diaphram fails, allowing fuel to bypass it into the vaccuum line, which pours directly into the throttle bodies. A stuck fuel injector is highly unlikely. Replace the regulator first then diag further.
  11. That would be my post that's in the useful threads section: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=54408
  12. No popcorn needed. This is a known issue on the FI birds, as the wonderfulness known as ethanol enriched fuel causes the diaphram (sp) to be breached, causing the engine to fill with fuel through the vaccuum lines. My daily bike filled all 4 cylinders up, two of them were actually filled all the way past the throttle body butterflies. I caught the dragbike early, as it sits a lot and the fuel actually ate through the vaccuum line and you could smell the gas leaking.
  13. I just realized, with this being a 99, and with him admitting it's got rust in the tank, can you imagine how corroded the ground test plug is in the back of the bike? I'd start there first. At this point you're probably talking about completely corroded ground wires from end to end throughout the bike, which can cause all sorts of issues (went through this with my dragbike, which had been left outside repeatedly before I got it.)
  14. I would take the wheels to a local tire shop and ask if they'd break the bead for you. You're talking maybe a minute to do both wheels, and they don't even have to pick the wheels up off the ground to do it. All of us that ride at my work all change our tires on the car tire machines.
  15. I picked up a C50T today on the hookup of a lifetime, but it's been laid down on the right side. Anybody know where I could find a couple of things other than ebay or the dealer? The most important thing is an airbox, since this one is completely crushed. Going to need a couple of other things in the near future, but that is literally the only thing that's making it unrideable.
  16. DING DING DING, We have a winner! Up until a year ago, there were a couple of gas stations that sold pure, 100% gasoline near me. 37-38mpg. Now, 32-33 mpg. Some progress, huh?
  17. The one time I had to do it, I had one of those kits from Walmart. It worked so well I now keep one in the van at all times. There is one that is specifically for bikes, but I can't remember what the name of it is. Nice little pouch with some CO2 cartridges and everything.
  18. I would patch it, or just plug it. I know how everybody says it's not safe, blah-blah but I never had an issue when I plugged my tire once (rear one only on the plug option). I rode it until it was past the wear bars and it never once leaked with that plug.
  19. If anybody is interested, I will take a look at it for you since it's in town. Funny thing is I've lived here all my life, had a bird myself since 2000, and I've NEVER seen this bike out and about. http://mobile.craigslist.org/mcy/2327329444.html
  20. So, the fuel pump in the dragbike took a dump (99 Blackbird). Does anybody know a part number for one that can be bought from the parts store? I've got it out, but the Denso number on the pump doesn't directly cross to anything that I can find. Google search shows that it's the same family as a Toyota Supra Turbo, and the dimensions and the plug-in match up, but I don't know if the flow characteristics are the same as our bikes. No way I'm spending $450 from the dealer for a new pump assy on a bike that only gets ridden a few times a year. Does anybody possibly have a used one they can part with?
  21. I sincerely hope none of you thought I was being serious with my D&D statement either. I have D&D full system on the street bird and the aforementioned full system with the Drag Pack option for the dragbike. It is far louder than my old KZ with the Sidewinder megaphone. I bought my D&D when the bike was new because it was the least expensive full system you could buy at the time. I bought the one for the dragbike on this board because it was a killer deal and got the drag pack on clearance. If I had baller money like some people I'd have a TiForce or Akra, but I just can't afford it. There's one good thing about a D&D, you are the loudest. There's a rapper with a line in a song that says "Bet ya bikes ain't louder than mine." If I ever meet him, I'm gonna ask him how many zeros will be at the end of my check!
  22. D&D full system with the drag pack option. No muffler at all, just a megaphone. Forget the earplugs, they won't help.

    sparkplugs

If you haven't bought them yet, let me know. I will call tomorrow (work for a car dealer, we can get a discount on them), find out for sure how much, and let you know. They're $10.49 each retail according to their website.

    sparkplugs

Oreilly's usually can get these within 24 hours, and they are cheaper than Amazon (last time I bought them about a year ago).
  25. WILLSXX was thinking about one a few years back, when he helped me score my 71 Firebird from California. If I had the money freed up, I would be all over that, regardless of where it is. I like the notch's much more than the fastbacks. I've got too many projects as it is, but that is uber-tempting.
