  1. I have a Russell day-long seat for sale. It is in good shape, it has a small tear at the right side up next to the tank, the tear is only about a half inch long (not bad at all). The seat is very comfortable and as the name implies you can go all day long (riding on the seat that is). It should fit any year of bird. It is a charcoal Grey color. I will try to get some pics of the stuff up as soon as I can. I would like $175 OBO on the seat. Also have a straight rear wheel and a bent front wheel that the lip is bent on, both off a 97' bird. Front wheel to a good home, Rear wheel $80 OBO E-mail: mbarr78@hotmail.com or PM me. Thanks
  2. From the title of this I was thinking you would have to find all new accessories with a small hole in each of them so you could properly MOUNT them. Go slow though that plastic can be sharp.
  3. I have an RF1000. I can't tell you how much noise, different helmets have but it can be drastically different. I think the 1k is good but not as quiet as some. I use E.A.R. Classic ear plugs because my work supply's them. Free is good. They are cheap if you have to buy them. I have worn them all day on the bike in the wind and have no complaints as far as comfort. They reduce the noise very well also. E.A.R. Classic Mike
  4. My 97' done the same thing at 45000mi. I was riding and all at once it sounded like a diesel. I knew from the wisdom here that the CCT had went out. Two things, I am very tight and mechanically inclined. So I pulled the CCT and took it apart and found that the thin coil spring had broke. About one coil worth of the spring had broke so I bent the end of the spring just like new so it would fit in the slot and not turn thus creating tension. I then made a key to put in the end and wind the spring with tension. It works perfect. I have put about 5K on the bike with no problems and it was a no cost fix but it does take some mechanical ability. I just thought I would share my experience. PS I believe all you need is a CCT and nothing else. The dealer is trying to take serious advantage of you. Mike
  5. Nope, totally different. You better just let take it off your hands. Mike
  6. Maybe Bowen will get in on this I know he regularly hits the rev limitter, on ANY BIKE THAT IS LEFT WITH KEYS.

    Coolant

Jake another thing you can do is to get a piece of clear tubing and put it down into the tank until it hits bottom. Then put your finger over the end and pull it up. You will be able to tell how much coolant you have. You only need about two inches in the tube. Mike
  8. Maybe Redd will throw up a pic of her cases. they are black chrome very cool looking. They are a black cobalt blue color. Mike
  9. I hope I don't offend anyone by revisiting this issue but I searched it and couldn't find the exact answers I am looking for. I am going to buy new springs for the forks. Springs and oil only I am poor. Got the bike apart in the garage and decided to go ahead and do the springs but not sure what and where to go. What brands are available: Hyperpro, Racetech others? What is the cheapest yet quality springs out there? Also of the reccomended brands where on the web is the best/cheapest place to purchase. I appriciate all comments and help. Thanks Guys Mike
  10. I just happen to have my forks in the garage apart changing the oil and one spring measures 237mm the other 238mm. Both are stock Tim you win looks like mine are basically the same as yours. Mike

    Shinko Tires

I have the 005 Advance tires on and I haven't come to a conclusion yet. They seem to be a little week in the grip dept. but I am in Illinois so I have not got them warm and been in the one curve in the state. I have only had them on about 2 weeks so like I said I have not made a decision yet. As for wear it has only been 2 weeks. They seem to turn in ok. My set before was a pilot road rear and a pilot power front and I like that combo very well. Sorry not much help but this is what I know with the short time I have been on them. Not to hijack but since we are talking about the Shinkos. The directional mark on the front tire was backwards compared to every other directional tire I have seen. For example every directional tire I have seen, the front tread direction is opposite of the rear. On these Shinkos the front and rear tread direction is the same. Not sure what those Koreans are up to. Let me know if I am off my rocker.
  12. Hey butt nugget is that more fitting. Justin you will have to ask Chris about my new location but my location comment sums it up. Jeff, I did not crash I wanted to go off road so I could get a good vantage point to take a picture of you other bone heads.
  13. I just placed an order for these Shinko tires front and rear from ridenowonline.com. Price was 169$ shipped. From everything I can find on these (not much) they should be similar to the Michelin Pilot Sport tires. I decided that I would be the test subject for these tires so once I get them and mount them up I will post up what I think of them. They are scheduled for delivery on 7/24 so give me a couple weeks and I should have a verdict. Mike
  14. I would sell it and buy a Harley then you won't have to worry about stupid fans and coolant and radiators or all that electronic crap. Just you and the machine out on the open road.
  15. I have used the super tech st6607 from wal-mart for about 20K no problems at all and the price is right. Anyone else use this filter. Mike
  16. Jeff I might be able to help I have been known to run a few govt. jobs through the plant from time to time. Mike
  17. I wanted to share what I made to mount my XM on the bike. First a little background. I work for P&H mfg. which is a small agricultural and contract manufacturing company. So I decided to make a bracket since I am a tight wadd and I have lots of resources at work. So with a little direction from our tool and die dept. I ended up with this and I am very happy with how it turned out. I am going to paint it gloss black just haven't made it that far yet. Here are the pics. I will post pics after I get the whole thing finished and mounted. If I screw up posting the pics in this thread they are in my photo album. http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/photos/albu...brkt.%20004.jpg http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/photos/albu...brkt.%20002.jpg http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/photos/albu...brkt.%20004.jpg http://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/photos/albu...brkt.%20001.jpg I cut the piece of alluminum out on a band saw and shaped it and smoothed it on a sanding wheel. Then I bent and drilled it. Next I made the two small stainless steel spacers that you see in the pics. These spacers hold the bracket out from the stock clamp about 1/16" as you see in another pic. The allen bolts are about 1/4" longer than the stock bolts to accomadate the spacers and bracket. The thin small piece of steel is what I am going to use to mount my magnetic xm anntena to my dash. I thought if there was intrest in this I would see if I could getthen some made up for distribution. My work has a laser that could duplicate the cutting and shaping that I did by burnig out the holes and profile then form it and package it and wah lah. Just exploring to see if there is any intrest not positive that I can get them to make them but I will see if there is enough intrest. If I am figuring right they would cost around 25$ to 30$ just a rough estimate. Mike
  18. The tire is the B model and it sounds like that is the reason why it sucks. Thanks again for another question answered. Mike
  19. Cabinfever found his tire flat the other day on his FJR. I soaped it and the bead was leaking on both sides so I broke it down and the bead was dirty. So I cleaned it up and I got it to seal. My question/comment is his avon tire was a PIA to get off and put back on. Just wondering if avons are harder to spoon on or the dish is not as deep on the yammy. It couldn't be me I am sure of that Ha Ha. I have not messed with any avons before this one but I have done michilins, bridgestones and others but none were the pain that the avon was. Just curious. Mike
  20. I have around 3500 mi on a set and like them very well. They are very good in the wet and dry it looks like I will get around 5000 mi out of the rear and might have a few thousand left on the front. I will go back to the roads for longevity but do like this tire very well. Mine were new at the begining of the season. Very good tire in my opinion.
  21. I use (CLP Break Free) for all my lube needs. You can get it at Wal-Mart in the same area as the guns. It is made for use on guns but I have discovered it works very well on anything, much better than WD-40. In Gun test magazine they tested it against many other lubes and it ranked the best and showed very good rust resistance on blued firearms. It is worth a try IMO. My $ .02 Mike

    New Tires

Just got my new set of skins ups today. Pilot Powers, I can't wait to get them on and see how they stick. $225.00 shipped to my door from Southwest Moto. Anybody have them or any experience with them. For you Chicago area guys or anyone Des Plain honda is running a 50% off retail sale on dunlops. I called them and a D208 front is $83.00 and a D208 rear is $110.00. I already had mine ordered but thought you guys might want to know. They said they would ship for $25.00 extra which is still a good deal. Ph # (847)699-9600

    3 problems

Thanks to all for the feedback. When I wash the bike I never point the spray wand directly at the guages or that area of the bike. My father is a retired mechanic, so I had a lengthy talk with him and he is relativly certain that the starter alone is the culpret. Some of his reasoning was because it will start every time by simply bumping it in gear and moving the engine. To answer some of the suggestions. I start or ride the bike at least once a week sometimes more. It has done this to me twice while toward the end of a 300mi ride just a week ago. It does this randomly, it will start fine then it may not one time then start fine another 10 times.

    3 problems

Hello, my bike is a 97' with 23,000mi (bought it a year and a half ago with 6900mi). First, I washed the bike the other day and when I left the car wash my speedo didn't work. Rode about 10 miles and it started to jump around but did't work properly. Next day after completly dry worked perfect any ideas. Next, recently the bird wouldn't start. Key on, run switch in correct position, kickstand up, clutch pulled, in neutral, nothing. So I put it into first rolled the bike a little and let out the clutch to turn the motor a little and hit the button and it came alive. It has done this about 5 times now. I have just preformed the above steps and it starts everytime. Maybe the solinoid or starter. Any ideas on this. Last, when I hit about 4000rpm and pin the throttle the bike surges until it hits about 7000rpm then takes off like a rocket. Only mod is K&N. The pipes leave a gold residue at the tips. I am guessing it is a lean condition but I don't understand how just the filter could create this much of a difference. I don't remeber having this surging problem before the air filter swap. With the bike sitting idling if you wack the throttle open you can get it to surge a little. I have ran to tanks of seafoam through it and it made the bike run a little better but did nothing for the surging problem. Any ideas on this. Thanks for any input. Mike :???:
