    Mototeck owners

I didn't have the time or energy to install it after fucking with the untertail installation for a week!!! So I have the cable situated next to the left openeing in the tail piece. I just reach up and grab it and give it a pull. Works great and unless you know its there you'd never find it. Cheap too!!!
  2. I purchased a set of avon tires from them a few weeks ago, no problem, no handling charge. I think they charged $6 shipping per tire. I asked for the total price before I confirmed the order and there was no hndling fee, and I wasn't charged for a handling fee. It is wise to always ask for the total price before completing any order. You never know how their "math" is going to work out. I always have my calculator with me when I order to check their costs. TRUST NO ONE!!!!
  3. I spent a couple of days installing the undertail on my 97XX. A real pain in the ass!!! It does look good though. The original lights sucked!!! They just weren't bright enough. I upgraded them through Mototeck. The undertail your looking at looks exactly like the Mototeck. Anyway, now that it is done I really like it. I still need to change the resister to slow down the blinking rate.

    mirror screw

There is a screw in the bottom of the mirror housings and I can't get it to budge!!! When Jackie hit my bike from behind and tried to kill, me the dealership had to replace the whole mirror assembly on the right side instead of just replacing the housing because they couldn't get the screw out. Now I have a new housing and i still can't get the freaking screw out. Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions?
  5. I am 6'-2" and 190 and I have the Corbin smuggler. It works well for me. I does sit you a bit lower but I find the seating position much more comfortable than the stock seat. With either seat, I found that as long as I stretch my legs before starting my ride and when I stop I don't have any problems.
  6. The dealership here in my area has had to order spark plugs, oil filter, air filter. They suck!!!

    NOISE IN MY FORKS

That is the noise I was hearing, oil traveling through the orifices. And you are right, I don't have a lot of confidence in their work. There are only two Honda shops in the area, and this is the better of the two. That is the bad thing about Alaska if you are a consumer, and also the great thing about Alaska if you are a provider; "No competition" You can get away with providing shit for a product and for the consumer you have very little recourse. I order most of my stuff on the internet, but when I need service, I'm FUCKED!!!!!! I had to take my truck back to Chevy about a month ago. After getting the oil changed (I have a lifetime oil change policy) the truck was leaking oil. Go figure! I take it back and suggest that maybe they fucked up installing the filter. Their response was that they would take a look at the leak but there was no guarantee it could be fixed under warrantee, totally ignoring the oil change issue. Turns out they fucked up the gasket on the filter. Who would have guessed!!
  8. I picked up my bike from Honda yesterday afternoon, they completed the installation of the racetech springs and valves. When the bike is sitting still and I push down hard on the handlebars to compress the front forks I here a sound which kind of reminds me of a liquid being squirted through a restricted opening. I called Race Tech this morning and they said it could be the springs rubbing. They told me to take it back to Honda and have them check it out. They also said that sometimes that happens. The forks seem to function fine. Anyone else run into this issue? Any comments or suggestions? I don't have a lot of confidence in the local dealership anymore. Whe I picked the bike up I felt a bit of vibration in the forks. I got home and looked at the bike front end again and realized they had the front wheel on backwards. (Stupid bastards!) I immediatedly took it back and they re-installed it correctly. There were a lot of embarrased individuals when I rolled in there. I was pissed and not at my most civil behavior. I don't think they heard the work "fuck" interjected into a sentence that often before.
  9. I got the Race Tech parts and there was a bag of washers/spacers that was open and only 3 washers/spacers lying in the bottom of the box. Anybody know how many was supposed to be in there? I will call tomorrow and find out, but thought I would ask now seeing as it is bugging me.
  10. Yeah, same here, beat the crap out of me!! Ok, more like packed my crap for me with the constant smacking in the ass! And here in Alaska its not like the roads are nice and smooth. Between the weather and just poor construction the roads are only good for about 2 years. I just replaced the stock shock with the Ohlins. Well worth it!!

    Shock Installation

I installed the shock Friday afternoon. Yeah, it was pretty simple, but like I said I always check with you guys first, I don't like surprises. It rides much better than the original. There is a bump just as I enter a left hand turn on my favorite road that feels like it bounces the bike right off the pavement. Very unsettling!! It was much more controlable with the Ohlins. It's still a fair bump, but doesn't make me seem like I am airborne. (Ok, there may be some exaggeration in the harshnes of the bump) My favorite road:
  12. I put the Ohlins on last night, works great!! Much smoother than the original. Not as harsh. I can't wait to get the forks done!! flk, I'll try calling you this weekend. I'll get the data on the Ferry system for you.
  13. Flyv65, I jsut ordered the Racetech kit for my 97XX, its supposed to be here Tuesday. You mentioned drilling the valves, why do you have to drill the valves? I thought if I ordered the kit specifically for the XX, I wouldn't have to do any more than instal them. What's the story? Thanks for the help.
  14. I've got the 2 Bros C5 ovals and the GIVI 360's and have plenty of clearance.

    Shock Installation

Thanks, AlphaBird. I tend to be very anal about things so regardless of how simple it may seem, if I haven't done it before, I'm going to check with you guys first. I ordered the shock through Dan Kyle in order to ensure the spring matched my weight - 190 lbs. I'll be installing it when I get home this afternoon. WooHoo!!!!
  16. I just received my Ohlins shock from Dan Kyle today! WooHoo!!! I know there was a lot of discussion and evn pictures of how to install the reservoir etc in earlier posts. In fact I think it was listed before the sight went down. Does anyone have thos pics showing how to mount the reservoir and the pre-load adjuster? Maybe the photos and any additional pertinent data could be listed in the "Important/useful threads" section. Thanks for the help

    ENGINE VIBRATION

Thanks Joe. I have a manual, I guess I should sit down and read through it and get more familiar with the bike.

    ENGINE VIBRATION

    You can adjust the counterbalancers?
  19. After reading Madrazcbr's post on engine vibration, I thought I would mention that my 97XX seems to pick up a minor vibration starting at about 4500-5000rpm and continues to 7000-8000rpm. Maybe I should refer to it as more of a buzzing in the bars and foot pegs. Is this normal? I stopped by the Honda dealership on Saturday and asked them but they said they were not familiar enough with the XX to say one way or another. There only comment was that the XX was pretty much bullet proof and they had never heard of a problem with the engine. I have noticed this more since I installed the ThrottleMeister, could this have an influence on the vibration? The Throttlemeister influence being the change in bar weight.
  20. If any of you guys have Hondas with the mirrors with rubber boots, the mirrors on the 2000VFR, which have the metal stalk, are a direct bolt-on replacement. They are the only ones that honda makes that match the mounting pattern of the older bikes. I just installed a pair on my wife's 97 600F3. Here's what they look like on a 2000 VFR. I just took a pic this morning before Jackie went riding

    Carbs sync'd

I dropped my bike off at the local Honda dealership earlier this week to sync the carbs, change the plugs and adjust the mixture screws. My 97XX has 10,000 miles on it now and since I put the jet kit in, it has been running a bit rough at low rpms. I had re-adjusted the mixture screws and got it much smoother, but I felt it still could be better. I picked it up last nite, BIG difference!! It idles smoothly and doesn't stumble or hesitate at low rpms. They said the plugs definitely needed changing. I only rode for about 12 miles due to rain, but it seems to run/pull very well!! The boys at Honda did a good job!!
  22. I do not feel the 45/46's stick as well as the BT010's I was out riding last weekend and the bike slid again in a turn. It regained its grip, but it is extremelu unsettling when it slides. The roads are a bit dusty here in Alaska, and the temp was only about 60 deg F, but under the same circumstances last year with the BT 010's I did not experience the sliding.
  23. Nope, the adjustment tool provided with the dynojet kit accesses the screws with the carbs in place. It is tight though. You need to have a bit of dexterity and thin fingers.
  24. Re-adjusted the mixture screws today. Just took the bike out for a spin and it runs great!! Evidently it was the mixture screws. I set them at 2 1/4 turns, checked all the nuts, bolts and screws to make sure everything was tight. I have a feeling that when I originally set them I wasn't as careful as I should have been on getting the adjustment perfect. This time I placed a piece of tape around the top of the adjustment tool and marked it every 90 degrees. That way I was sure to be exact in the adjustment for each carb. Thanks for the suggestions.
