  1. I just finished the install of my Traxxion DIY kit. VERY NICE!!!!! I am curious about raising my forks. In the service manual is says to set the forks with 39 mm between the top bridge and the locking ring indent on the fork. Now if I raise my forks do I just change that measurement? In doing a search I see 10mm is the top end and the average is about 5-6mm. Yes I have already shimmed the rear. TIA Kinley
  2. I went in there all sneaky like pretending to order them :icon_shifty: I pulled up the microfiche and clicked add to cart. Checked the numbers in the cart and they were the same as the numbers you pulled from Ron Ayers. Yes but the new parts in my hand dont match my old parts, no way they are going to fit??? So I am trying to ascertain which is the right part numbers; I think Ayers is fouled up but not sure. Kinley
  3. Airborne, till the end of what? I dont follow your post? Kinley
  4. Ok while I am in replacing my fork innards with my Traxxion setup I figured I would replace the bushings and sliders as well. Called University Motors and gave them part numbers for various CBR1100 fork parts. They sent me the following: 51415-MBW-E11 Bush, slider and 51414-MCF-003 Bush, guide. These look nothing like the parts that came out of the forks, the are taller in heigth. So looking at Ron Ayers to get the right parts I see 51415-MBW-003 Bush, slider and 51414-MAT-E01 Bush, guide NOW here is my quandery and why I think I am insane, when I click on the listed Ron Ayers parts they go over to the first set of parts I believe I received incorrectly. Incidently the first set of parts matches those for a CBR600. WTF chuck???? Am I insane? What the hell is the right parts? Kinley
  5. My take is this, just take the shit somewhere and have them do it. Yes you already have the knowledge and equipment, however a place that does this specializes in that type of thing. Have the materials and you get a guarentee. I think you would actually cost yourself more money in paint materials, setting up the paint area and prep than if you just had a shop do it for a competitive price. IMHO Kinley
  6. Read most of the same thread, go TRAXXION. I called and spoke to DK about getting my forks done. Talked to Joey, same guy in that thread, and was NOT impressed by him. He may know his shit but his customer service just jaded me toward DK. I have also called Traxxion and spoke to Mike Hardy, they friggin rock. Have answered innumerable questions and have my business. YMMV but I was NOT impressed with DK, sadly. Kinley
  7. Am assuming this is on your bike??? Yes you can hand compress the caliper or gently stick a prying untensil in btw the OLD pads and pry that way to cmpress the caliper. I used a big screwdriver or a z pry bar very gently to do this. Kinley
  8. They are called well nuts I believe and more than likely they are sitting just under the headlight on top of the cowl in that little tiny area. You may want to remove the little port cover and look. Ask me how I know this. Also may be down in the crease of the upper cowl along the side where it joins the inner cowl. Ask me how I know. If you end up getting new ones, what I did was install in windscreen like supposed to, then take a washer and tighten the mounting bolt squishing out the rubber; let sit for a while (this is windscreen off the bike). Flares it out and helps it hold a flatten squished shape. Also if you have the side trim off stick a rag down on the side, will help when they pop out again, cause they will--ask me how I know. Good luck Kinley
  9. Well, havent gotten to that part of my 97 yet BUT sounds like you need a service manual. Also I am purely speculating here but possibly you could have bound up the starter motor? This could have bent or warped the shaft some? I dont really have a specific idea having NOT ever seen this but I am thinking something is bent or bound. Hope it is ok Kinley
  10. Well Tumble where ya located? Ya may have some birds in your neck o the woods, may be able to enlist some help right there Kinley
  11. I LIKE those mirros, but I cant read is it german? But I dig em tho!!!!! Kinley
  12. Wow I like the craftmanship and the fabrication but it sort of looks like a locomotive and not quite my cup of tea. However certainly like the paint and can appreciate the time and effort put into it. I must admit tho I dug it when it was orange. That was very cool. Its current state looks a little too busy. Definitely something I wish I had the talent to do!!!!!! Keep on tweakin. Kinley

    6mm shim

Holy crap is all I gotta say!!!! While messing with my tank, see other thread, I decided to do the shim mod. Best $12 I ever spent on the bike. Cost me that much cause I bought an inexpensive vernier caliper from Lowes. I already had the washers laying around. Installed the shim to a thinkess of three washers, 5.678, and MAN makes a hell of difference. Dont ask me how just does; I dont pretend to understand the geometry of steering and suspension but the bike literally falls into turns. I highly recommend it. Kinley
  14. Jason- I paid $.58 for the tape ea from University Motors. I see what you are saying I and I thought that too about the pad holding the wiring in there. Best I can guess is the tape held the wiring in place while the pad was applied????? Kinley
  15. Well here is an update, looks like you were all incorrect. Part number 18, as far as I can tell from replacing the fuel gauge sending unit, the under tank pad, the little black pads pointed out, grommets, tank trim and side trim; is two pieces of frickin tape to hold the sending unit wiring harness to either the tank or to the pad. Honda cant make a suspension worth a shit but they make sure you have tape to stick the harness out of the way when reinstalling the tank So mystery solved Kinley
  16. Jason is correct, I was wondering what you guys were referring to. Kinley
  17. On my 97 bird's fuel tank where does part number 18 go? There are quantity 2 needed of the 80116-MAT-000, Tape. Crap dont know how to make the pic clickable and/or bigger Kinley
  18. Check with Gary Mccoy at University Motors. His info his in the venfors section. Cheaper than Ron or Service Honda. Kinley
  19. +1 to what exskibum said!!!! Whilst bolting up a SP1 or Busa front end is certainly very cool and trick, dropping in a set of the Traxxions is must more cost effective in both time and cost.. Depends on what you are looking for tho. Kinley
  20. @Airborn-Thank you for your offer but I already have a new on on the way from Gary at University Motors and it was relatively cheap better than Ayers or Service Honda. Thanks again. @Pete-Very true, hadnt thought about that but like I said have a new one on the way. Kinley
  21. Gary Mccoy is the man when it comes to Oem Honda parts. I called him up for my POS failed fuel sending unit and he got me squared away!!!!!! Props to Gary AGAIN Kinley
  22. Well busted out the service manual and did a bit o' troubleshooting. POS HOnda's!!!!!!!! I could live with the tool bungie breaking, I mean I expected that BUT my fuel sending unit going tits up on my almost 9 year old bike!!!!!!! That is it, I am selling it and buying a 'busa!!!!! I am pissed!!!!! Turns out I got a bad fuel sending unit. Oh the agony Kinley
  23. On my 97 bird the fuel gauge show 1/4 tank of gas yet the low fuel light is on. I have had the bike on and off a couple of times and the light keeps coming on. When I got home I shined a light into the tank and it indeed looks like I have a 1/4 of a tank of gas in there. This leeds me to believe the gause and float mechanism are fine but whatever trips the low fuel light is messed up. Looking at Ron Ayers it looks like the whole unit is one piece. Also every time I get home from a ride I have a strong smell of gas. I attribute this to needing a jet kit with my RS-3 pipes. Thoughts, suggestions Thank you Kinley

    New Bird

I would follow the manual for the most part on the break in procedures however I would not be afraid of a few moderate revs. Basically break the bike in like you are gonna ride it. BUT avoid bogging the engine and prolonged over revving at the shift points. Others may disagree but I learned this technique allows for a full range of cylinder scoring durning the break in process. I have had zero issues with it. As others have stated, this is your first bike, GET GEAR, watch out for third gear -will put you up to 105 lickety split and approuching 7k the bike becomes a red headed slut!!!!!!!! She is a lady below 7K. Good luck and keep the rubber down Kinley

    Evans NPG+

Ok I gotta differ with you on this one, how can running without a thermostat be smart in the least bit? That goes against all that is good and proper? Yes I am stirring the shit a little but all seriousness I cant see how that could be good? Kinley
