  1. So, the black one, then? Why do you assume I want the BLACK ones? Is it because I so blatantly dig Anson's chili? Is "chili" a euphemism for something? Hhhhhhmmmm could be
  2. IIRC all years of the XX used the same size & type of forks so the seals should work. Hope that helps.
  3. WOW bummer, sorry to read of this trouble. Good luck and keep us posted.
  4. I have heard some say you should get a new battery every 3 years. I guess you don't get very cold in the winter, cause freezing will shorten the battery life.
  5. Looks great :icon_thumbsup: if you want to try something to get a little more down low snap, go get a 16 tooth front spocket.
  6. You felt who on the sofa.... J/K Thanks for all the info, I was looking for some winter projects :icon_thumbsup:
  7. Is this one of the infamous NYC cockroaches?
  8. Well the amount of current a starter on a car will draw will probably exceed the XX capabilities and burn something out on the bike. Just a guess really but I'm with your friend on this one.
  9. I believe they all mount the same. The decals will be wrong(coming from a FI XX to a carb XX) but it should fit. I think.
  10. I am no expert but there are products to deal with rust. Try a good hardware store if no rust stopper then get a can of rustoleum(sp) in the color that is close to the car. Find a scrap box, spray the rustoleum in the box then use a pin or finishing nail (I have had good luck with a pin head) to apply small bits (less is more here) to the rust to stop the rust and seal the metal. Let dry. Then apply the touch up paint you got that is the correct color. good luck
  11. Do they mean that you have to get the Safety Package to get the cruise control? The cruise is one of the best things on the Wing. They didn't even spell "electronically" right. I guess we are lucky they didn't spell it erectronicarry
  12. Well I think it was a typo cause it said $39 when I looked. Still a good deal.
  13. The guys on the British XX site all love the Akropovic full system. I love my TwoBrothers full system, but I don't know if they still offer it ( since the XX was discontinued in 93 here) BTW you will prolly find more aftermarket stuff on European sites. The XX was more popular and still made till this year there.
  14. There is a tab/slot that keeps them in a spot. There is a little room to wiggle or just slide them off and grind/file off some tab. I like the position of the ergo's so I don't know if it a good move or not.
  15. And unless you have a 6" wide rear rim (stock bird rear rim is 5.5") it is a waste to buy 190 tire IMO.
  16. I don't think all these things are related. I would check the switch you took apart to make sure all is good with your reassemble job(pinched/short wire). Then check the fuse by the starter relay. other than that, I got nothing Good luck, keep us posted Never mind .... I really need to learn to type faster!
  17. Help... the rear axle on the 929, I just bought, is not the same size as the XX. I don't have any wrenches or sockets bigger than 27mm so I will have to buy one. But what size to buy? It's a 32mm and I have a crescent (adj. wrench) that's pretty big and a measuring utensil.

Now who is Moly & what does she have against fireflies?
  19. You also have to note he is running a 16T up front. I also run a 16T front but with a 45T out back and it adds a little length having a smaller sprocket in front. Overall he is prolly fine.
  20. My XX will miss 2 gear when shifting from 1 to 2 but as soon as I change the oil it stops doing it. Now when I say it missed I mean it went in and popped right back out. probably not the same thing.
  21. No offense taken, but at the rider class for a track day they recommend clutchless shifting. Clutchless shifting, done right, will upset your suspension the least and overall make you smoother. In talking to fast riders, smooth=fast. With practice(not much mind you) it becomes second nature & very smooth. Down shifting is smoothest for me with a small clutching. It's surprising to me how little clutch is needed to downshift smooth. I say give it a try it is easy and with a little practice fast and smooth. P.S. I also do it on my Harley. It is clunky at low RPM but with mildly aggressive acceleration it is smooth.

be sure to change out the brake fluid with fresh. brake fluid can absorb moisture and make the brakes feel spongy.
  23. More info... what year? how many miles? tire condition? the only thing that comes to mind is carb synchronizing (sp) carbs out of sync can cause vibes. I am not sure but I thought I read something about throttle bodies being synchronized
  24. Umotors in Fargo for the R1 reg. $49 and change plus a few bucks to mail it to ya. Be sure to tell them your from this board or you won't get the good price(reg is $85 regular price) Mike (bartonmd) should be along any minute to sell you an adapter plug( he needs to retire early you know ) good luck
