  1. i need this for my 99...joe says the covers prettybad with rash. so i'll either replace it or get one of those carbon fiber topcovers to hide the rash. Anybody? thanx tom
  2. J. where'd ya get n how much? tom
  3. most of u know i need a frontend........so i now its on here somewhere..just can't find it. will 954 or 929s fit? and what else is involved...brake change? rim?(i need a new one anyway) i'm going to start looking and weighing my options. tom
  4. The only problem I've had with my 99' was that the BAS(bank angle sensor) went bad...it killed the motor every so often...but it would always require you to turn the key off then back on to start the bike...it would never just die so a second then come back alive like nothing happened. Check all electrical connections.....especially the relays under the seat. Sorry can't help more than that. Tom
  5. I gotta work til 6 on Friday...I can't leave early otherwise I'd lose my holiday pay for Labor day. So, I probably won't be pullin in til at least 8 at the earliest. I still may call off on Sat. I'm suppose to work from 6am til 6pm. Thw wifes not happy bout me using a day to ride my bike,,,,but its like hey!..I haven't had the bike since June...shes not gonna be happy anyway..even if I dont go....so I might as well blow the day off and go riding with you nuts..then leave Sat. night for work on Sunday..or may get up early Sun and pull out.
  6. I got my XX back from the dealer today in between all the rain we're having in Pa. It cost me $112 to fix it this time, $75 for a new BAS and the dealership felt sorry for me and only charged me half for labor. She rode home fine, but time will tell. Tom
  7. No..simple to change...one plug and two bolts. i think of hand they cost about $70 from Ron ayers, but the bikes 25 miles away from my home (Wilkes-Barre,Pa.). So I figure they might as well just change it. I tried to figure out how to jump it out in the beginning of this fe-as-co(?). I could faintly remember troubleshooting it...and I could swear that once or twice i thought that the BAS let voltage out to the ECR(engine cut relay)....then I'd check it again and there'd be none..voltage that is. I shook my head a couple of times..trying to figure out if I actually seen what I thought I saw....then I tried pulling the BAS off its mount and tipping it both ways and it'd let out the voltage opening the ECR just the way the FSM states. I'm at work so this is going off of memory. i could be wrong as to what relay is in series with the BAS. Its either the FCR or the ECR. Don..you can jumpin' out but, I'dnever be able to sell the bike set-up that way. tom
  8. Yeah...supposedly the sensor itself is bad. and Yes..I did think in the beginning of this that the BAS was bad, but for something like $70bucks I was afraid that I'd be wasting my money. and Now I will be..only by the dealers hand. and the saga continues............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  9. Just got off the phone with the service rep. at my local dealer.....he says...ya I think he(the tech)did find something....he goes to confirm with the tech and comes back to the phone....your BAS is no good....the tech says if he jumps out the BAS the bike will run fine....says whenever he wiggles the wiring going into the BAS he keeps getting different reactions. SO NOW..... I have to wait til next week at the earliest to get the bike back. THIS ABSOLUTELY BLOWS!! Hell...I may as well start getting ready for bow season! Oh...and I called American Honda to check if the broken wire they found going into the ECM should be covered under the Emissions Act. I had to tell the dealer to call American hondas tech support line and file a claim for me. I think the service rep at the dealer is starting to get sick of me. TOOO FUCCCKINNGG BAD! I want my damn bike beofre it starts freakin snowing here in Pa. tom
  10. Thanx much Mick,. I'll call the dealer and let the tech look into it. The service manager told me the guy that's been working on the bike is their Goldwing specialist and has NEVER had a bike returned for any problem before. So.....at least I was first at something. HAH! This just blows haing it happen in the middle of the summer. At this point I have no faith in my Bird and will not trust her for a LONG time. I will always be thinking that somewhere down the line I will be getting stuck. I'm starting to look into other options... ZX12 maybe..... WR450F......either supermoto it or just get her legalized for the street. Just don't know what to do. JUST MY LUCK i guess. tom
  11. I got the bike back today after the tech changed out one of the ecm harnesses. He supposedly found a wire that was giving intermittent signals...wire was broken inside its insulation. NOW...The fun part.. Rode the bike to work to get my check...went back out to go home and the FUCKKKKKKKIIIIIINNNNGGGGGG bike would not start! I had to get a ride home..trailer her back to the shop...while it was still on the trailer I tried starting it..she started for a split second then died...pushed her into the shop..tried it again..NOTHING..the tech comes over and she fired right up.. Thats it...I give in...The bikes for sale asap as soon as I get her back. Anyone have any links to the problem Northman mentioned about some sensor or harness shorting out on the bike. I tried looking at the IXXRA and couldn't find it. i won't be back home til Sunday night..just in case you're wondering why I'm not answering emails or stuff. Thanx again. Tom
  12. Dealer called the wife today asking....Whats suppose to be wrong with the bike..cause it starts and runs fine!!! So..she calls me at work...I call the dealer..SAYING WTF! The service guy starts to tell me how the mechanic pulled the bike from the back room(by starting it)....took it for a ride....the the mechanic askes the service manager.."IS THERE SUPPOSE TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS BIKE". Thats when the service manager called my house and spoke to my wife. By the the time I called him from work thinking WTF goin on'...the mechanic went back over to the Bird to start it and pull in it the back of the shop and..............................................................................................................THE FUCKING BIKE WOULD NOT START....THE PUMP WOULD NOT CYCLE!...HMMMMMMMMMMM There is something definitely wrong. So.. tomorrow the mechanic got a brainstorming session to do. Tom
  13. Just an FYI... I rode the bike to the dentist today(fuel cut relay jumpered out) and she OFFICIALLY DIED....nothing was happening when I turned the key. I called the wife...went home...got the trailer and dumped the bike back at the dealer. So..I'll have to wait and see what happens. tom
  14. Yeah..i'll check the ecm again for codes, but I doubt I'll find anything. Its the same as before...turn the key and the pump goes BZZ for a split second.then nothing. I forced the fuel cut relay and rode the bike to work today. Hell...If i could, i'd leave it that way, but I can't ever sell it set-up like this. tom
  15. I feel the same Joe...I have no clue as to what it can be and at $55 an hour for labor   I ain't gonna be to happy. Oh..and they did change the ECM..I checked tom
  16. Well...the dealer swapped the ECM...I rode the bike home last Wed....put her in the garage..tried riding her to work yesterday..and thats when it started. I started the bike up and she died within 5 seconds. It having the same exact problem as before. The fuel pump will not cycle for it alotted time. I forced the fuel cut relay again and the bike started and uns fine. I called the service manager..talked to him about it...he said bring it in and they'l look at it again, but everything pointed to the ECM last time. So here I go again. tom
  17. Sorry..took so long. i was gone camping with the family. The BAS is located next to the three relays under the seat.
  18. My bike has a bad ECM...but originally I thought the cause to be the BAS. The purpose of the BAS is to send voltage to the engine cut relay if the bike tips. The Red/Or wire is suppose to have 0V if you go Red/Or to ground. If the BAS tips to 60deg. as Swampnut stated (my best guess is some type of mercury switch inside)it allows Voltage thru to the Engine cut relay via the Red/Or wire...which opens the relay(ECR) which in turn kills the fuel cut relay(FCR) and kills the bike. I'm not sure what would happen if you took the red/Or. wire directly to ground so that no voltage ever gets to the ECR(engine cut relay). As I said my ECM was dead...but I did try doing the above and grounding the wire...but it made no difference in the bike starting..because my ECM was allowing voltage to open up the fuel cut relay. After..... to finally get my bike going I had to force my FCR to close by taking the Br/Bl wire(from FCR to the ECM)directly to ground. This either helped or now you're totally confused. Tom
  19. No job # from Matt at Honda. It has to be "VERIFIED" by thier dealer before anything gets set in motion. Hopefully everything will go right and I won't pay a dime. I pulled off the jumper I had to get the bike running and put her back to original....Guess what...Shes dead as a doornail. she's up on the trailer awaiting next Tuesday. Bigbird...Do you mean kickstarter..instead of kickstand? otherwise i have no clue what you mean. Tom
  20. Just an update on my ECM problems. I called my dealer and he basically had no clue if or what was covered concerning the ECM.He suggested I contact factory honda...so I did. Matt at customer servive..looked it up and low and behold it is covered. He stated 5yrs. or 18641miles(30000Km) whatever comes first. I do have to have the problem verified by the dealer before anything will be done, but I understand that. The bikes going into the shop next Tuesday. Just and FYI for future reference. Tom
  21. A BIG THANK YOU To Joe. I made the trek to his stomping grounds today(77miles one way and 92 miles back a different way) and swapped my ECM onto his bike. Needless to say...his bike was dead..would not start. I got caught in roadwork coming home and had to run at 45mph for approx.20miles. I did make up for it though after...I added a 1 in front of 45 for alittle while...Felt great to be on the bike again.... OH WHAT A FEELING!!!! I'm calling the local dealer tomorrow to start the ball rolling.. I'm praying to god tonight that they DON'T give me a hassle and just swap in a new ECM. yeah right! tom
  22. I'll second...Joe statement on checking the air intake. I should have remembered that..I had a friend servicing his YZ250 once....just the usual stuff...air filter cleaning included. well..after he had finished, the bike spit and sputtered and ran like shit! Ended up that he had left a rag stuffed inside the airbox blocking the carb. intake while he was cleaning his filter. Stupidddder things have happened. Check your air intakes Tom
  23. Welcome aboard!. The info. and help you'll find here is second to none. Now...About the XX. I have a 99' that I swear feels like you're sitting on the fastest..smoothest electric motor ever produced...it's that comfortable and smooth. So..I'd definitely say you have a problem. Going to another dealer in your area is definitely a good thing. The dealer you went to sounds like they do not want to be bothered...or have no idea what the hell is wrong and they're just trying to play you. I call BULLSHIT on you no running it hard enuf'. Not sure where the buzziness is coming from...but you can go around on the bike and check all the bolts for tighteness...it couldn't hurt! As long as it's still under warranty keep taking it to a dealer and document everything. Good Luck! Tom
  24. thanx Swampnut...Where did you find the milage and year totals you stated in the other post? Thanx Tom
