  1. WD-40 or chain wax? Or maybe a Scottoiler?
  2. I removed the wheels and used 6 wedge anchor bolts to hold it to the concrete floor. I cut off part of one leg so could make the platform wider. In this pic the leg has been shortened but the platform hasn't been widened. The other leg is buried in the wall as the bottom plate as well as being anchored to the floor. I don't think it's going anywhere. And the lift is rated for 1500lbs. anchor bolt by tvking63, on Flickr
  3. Right now I'm trying to finish the elevator. It's one of those projects that got far enough along that it was functional, so I moved on to other things........ Looking back through the thread I see very little mention of the elevator so I'll try to bring you up to speed. A real residential elevator is at least $20k. Early on I realized that wasn't in the budget so I had to get creative. I bought a used pallet stacker. It's basically a forklift without the truck part. Once a pallet is lifted you'd have to push it around. Getting it in the basement was a job in itself, but we managed not to break anything or anyone. Lift 043 by tvking63, on Flickr Before it made it to the basement I had to make sure it worked..... Lift 029 by tvking63, on Flickr Here is a video from very early on in the process. Here it is a bit further along. The plywood it temporarily attached but later I welded a frame onto the forks to support the platform. zr 005 by tvking63, on Flickr All along my intent was to make it look as much like a real elevator as I could. So I welded up some square tube to make a frame to form an elevator "car". I could have had door with jam switches ect so it would only work when everything was just so but I'm glad I didn't. It's so much faster and convenient this way and I could add the interlocks later if my situation changes. I did make it so when the elevator it down, the top of the elevator car is level with the floor upstairs. And it's covered with 3/4 ply so you can walk out on to it. In fact, that's how I get in the attic. I put the access in the elevator shaft, so I roll onto the top of the car and raise myself up. Here is the limit switch I used to make it stop level with the top floor. I also had to use a pulley to keep the wiring for the button synced with the lift as it goes up and down. AAA 194 by tvking63, on Flickr So now on to current stuff. I'm finally getting around to finishing the elevator car. The color of the panels I'm using is Butterscotch Suede. Because of the frame design I had to add some blocking in place to have something to mount the panels to. 040 by tvking63, on Flickr I split the back and left panels to make them easier to remove so the the electrics are accessible if need be. There will be trim of some sort to cover the seam, but haven't decided what yet. Maybe brushed aluminum? 039 by tvking63, on Flickr I'm also working on the floor. I found some prefinished maple flooring that similar to what's in the rest of the house. Because of the movement I decided to glue and nail it down. 027 by tvking63, on Flickr 043 (2) by tvking63, on Flickr
  4. That looks really nice. And it's wheelchair friendly. I wouldn't have guessed Teak by looking at it.
  5. Why you gotta be pushin' me like that? To be honest, I have been slacking. Not alot to see. I will try to get something up here after OzarXX.
  6. That's pretty cool John. Might not be the best for those of us that are vertically challenged though......
  7. When did that happen?
  8. Any luck? It looks like the right knob is for setting the # of gallons before regeneration. Most softeners regenerate solely based on time. Some higher end units have 2 tanks and switch back and forth based on usage (gallons) And some use both. That looks like what you have. It measures usage and recognizes when it's getting close to needing to be regenerated, then does so at the nexxt scheduled time. Probably didn't help getting it set, huh? :icon_doh:
  9. I know what you mean, but it's funny that I haven't seen you at any of the meetings........
  10. Exxon is a nice touch.
  11. You obviously don't need a tax break because you have too much money already to be able to afford a second home. And the money you have you must have gotten by oppressing the poor and minorities.
  12. I like the island on an angle but it looks kinda tight nexxt to the fridge for a WC. Is that a custom seat/bench in the corner at the table?
  13. Come on over and you won't have to imagine.......
  14. Unless you close off that area with some plastic or something I think you're gonna have a hard time warming just that 3rd bay. I suppose it would be warmer in the immediate vicinity of the heater.... Maybe you should just chase the wife around the house a bit to get the blood pumping before you go out there.
  15. Wow, haven't checked the Handyman section in a while. Looks fantastic Brett, except for the ceiling.......... Glad the nailer worked out. Can I have a Dora the Explorer fan in my room? Step off big man. :icon_nono: I actually hurt myself laughing.
  16. Your garage is probably leaky enough that CO isn't going to be an issue. I ran a kerosene salimander in a garage almost every day for a year and aI have a brain cell or two left. How cold is a witches tit? How warm do you want it to get, and how fast? I'm afraid 20k BTU isn't gonna make much of a dent in the temp until long after your workout is done. Or are you planning to position it to heat you rather than the garage?
  17. I think I'm leaning more towards taking out some of the random ones. I'm gonna live with it a while longer.
  18. Shower update: Finally got the shower tile done. Still have wainscot tiling to do around the rest of the room. I went with a 2x2 mosaic tile. It turned out fine but it was a royal pain. 12x12's would have been much easier. The 2x2's are on a 12x12 mesh sheet but it still was a hassle keeping everything lined up. The accent tiles are 1x1 cobalt blue glass tiles. I used an epoxy grout which is more difficult to work with but is darn near indestructible. I might have over done it with the random blue tiles. I think it looks a little too busy. I'm gonna live with it for a while and see if it grows on me. I can pop some out and replace them with a white tiles if it doesn't. Need to get the finish plumbing buttoned up. Might be ready for a shower by the weekend.
  19. It seems that newer windows are going to plastic/composite spacers because they transfer less heat than metal spacers which increases the energy rating of the window assembly.
  20. It looks pretty good but I'd like to know how he knows it has a "busted piston seal" without opening it up.
  21. I'd bet you'd have some losses do to air leaking under the other cabinets ect. but it might be inconsequential. It wouldn't be that difficult to cut out the cabinet bottom, install the ductwork, and reinstall the bottom.
  22. My house and garage, rims joists, walls and ceilings was $12k, so I'm thinking yes.
