  3. My CT Honda dealer did an "dealer inventory search" and found one single OEM FPR in stock at a dealer in Lexington, Kentucky. That's where I ordered it from. $41 + $13 two-day air. Installed it last weekend and my 2000 runs...... LITERALLY...... like new. Ask your dealer to do the same thing. If no other dealer has one, I was told that they will have to order one from a Honda distributor, who will send it to the dealer, and then to you. It appears that the distributor won't ship directly to you. A failing FPR can dump raw gas into your crankcase. You are warned. Supe
  4. Ditto on the Fuel Pressure Regulator. I've read more and more posts on the slow deterioration of the FPR diaphram due to 10% ethanol gas. My 2000 started to idle somewhat roughly, and sure enough, the FPR was failing. This can dump raw gas into your crankcase, so check it. It's an easy replacement and only costs $40-$60 depending on the supplier.

  6. OK...... The "Cycle Therapy" replacement pump assy (including high pressure hose to the FI Rail!) arrived yesterday. It looks excellent, and we'll install it in my friend's 2001 over the weekend. I'm hoping my next post will be good news. On a whim, I stopped by a local AutoZone and told them that I was looking for a NON-OEM replacement for an in-tank 12V electric fuel pump for a 2001 Honda CBR1100XX motorcycle, with Honda PN 16730-MAT-D00, and with markings molded into the plastic end cap of the pump as follows: DENSO 195130 31 05U 4091 FP-10 They handed me a "Master Domestic and Import Auto Parts" catalog for fuel pumps. There were many pages of pictures of electric fuel pumps that appear to be IDENTICAL in physical configuration to the OEM pump. I picked three that looked like they would interchange and was given prices between $89 - $112, which is 1/3 the price of OEM. I have emailed the company to get more information (i.e. dimensions, pressure, flow rate, connector configuration, etc.) and I'll report my findings to you all when I get them. The price for this service will be $10 for the first finding, and $5.00 for each additional finding, up to a maximum of 10 findings. Or I'll give them up for free if someone is willing to send me a link to aftermarket "indiglo" (?) gauge faces for my own 2000. Supe
  7. Everyone: Update on the “stored 3 years won’t start” string: It was the fuel pump. Did all tests in the manual. Got 12V power to the fuel pump connector. Pulled the pump, applied 12V directly to +/- on pump, and it didn’t run. I’m wondering how a fuel pump could simply go “bad” sitting for 3 years. Dealer wants $312 for the pump ONLY, and around $400 for the ENTIRE bolt-in pump/filter/bracket assy. I couldn’t find any aftermarket pump anywhere. But in a stroke of incredible luck, I found a used pump/filter/bracket assy on Amazon.com (yes, Amazon.com) from Cycle Therapy for $85.95 + $10 shipping. I await UPS’s arrival at my home, unblinkingly. If the pump ever becomes unavailable (or stratospherically priced), has anyone tried to install one of the many available electric fuel pumps EXTERNAL to the tank? Thanks, Supe
  8. Your "bulge" comment jogged my memory. That was what I remembered. Thanks. And I agree that it's probably not the problem. We verified spark last night, and no critters. But we did NOT get the smell of fuel as we cranked. Looks like fuel isn't making it from the tank. So here we go........... too bad we can't send the "Fantastic Voyage" people and the Proteus through the fuel system with Gumout Guns instead of a laser....... Supe
  9. Uh Oh. Looks like we have a bidding war brewing. Believe me, if he's interested in selling it, this forum will be the first to know. But right now, I think he's extremely happy to have gotten possession of it and is chomping on the bit to get it on the road. I'm still fairly certain that I read something on the web a year or two ago about "known" electrical ground/connectoer "issues". Now I have to prove myself right or wrong........... Supe
  10. Too much work. I'm going to tell him to drop a cherry bomb down the tank, and the pressure wave from the blast should thoroughly clear out the fuel system. But seriously......... I hadn't thought to mention critters to him. I'll be there tonight and we'll check that first. And a shot of ether should asure if there's spark or not. But I'm still curious about the "grounds" situation. If there doesn't appear to be spark, is there a list and/or location of all grounds/connections that are generally known to be troublesome? Thanks very much for your advice. My friend thought for sure he would lose his bike at the conclusion of the "recent unpleasantness"........ Supe
  11. Gentlemen, I have a 2000. A new friend here in Southwest CT has a 2001. Due to an adversarial divorce, it was stored in an unheated garage with about a pint of gas in the tank (no gas stabilizer) since Fall 2004 (nearly 3 years). He saw me ride mine to work last week and asked me for advice before he attempted to start it. I told him to change oil/filter, clean out the tank completely, buy and install a new battery, add fresh fuel, and attempt to start. He reports that it cranks very well but does not fire at all. I was thinking that he MIGHT have simply added gas to the tank and tried to start it with his old battery BEFORE he asked for help, but he's a fellow engineer so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't. I've searched the forum and read some things about the fuel filter. Is it possible that nearly 3 year old gas has plugged it? If yes, is there a well defined procedure on the forum to replace the fuel filter and/or fuel line? I've also read some things about possible electrical ground or other electrical connection problems. Is there a list of these connections and/or a procedure on the forum for checking/cleaning them? It would be most appreciated if any of you who has been down this road would provide your insights to his "crank but not firing" problem. I'm sure he will remember you all favorably in his Will.
