  1. +1 I think Stan is onto something :icon_think: Never really noticed any noise on mine though It's something I have been meaning to do on mine as I have noticed a roughness around those revs for a while (98 XX). It wasn't there when I got the bike or for 2 1/2 years or so but seemed to develop when I missed a 1-2 shift and was bouncing her off the limiter I get a little vibe through the tank and footpegs around that rev range as well
  2. Budgy Smuggler is slang for Speedo's or bathers Like these pics of our Opposition Leader
  3. Would you prefer an 07 XX
  4. I have an 05 XX seat and the OEM 98 and then only difference I can tell is the slightly firmer padding on the 05 (less wear) and the 05 has a slightly grippier texture and the pillion section is stippled to make it more non slip
  5. Well I'll go the other way and say I am very happy with doing the RR shock on my 98 BB The BB shock doesn't have compression damping like the RR, the RR's preload adjustment is way easier than the BB's and the RR shock is remote reservoir I bought the bike from the original owner with ~32 000km and by 40 000km the rear shock was fubar, had lost all damping and was killing my back :icon_wall: Also as I'm ~ 300lb's it was undersprung as well :icon_think: Anyhow I got a low mileage 93 RR shock off eBay for $61 USD and $65 USD shipping, spent ~$165AUD on an upgraded Eibach spring and ~$120AUD on getting it rebuilt and a collar made up for the spring, all up ~$460AUD A new Penske/Ohlins/Wilbers shock here in Aus is ~$1500AUD+ and even buying one from the US is around $900AUD I could probably have gotten away with rebuilding it the 1st time as well and saved money :icon_think: The shock was still on there when I spat the bike down the road about a month ago and had ~60 350km on it and was still doing fine :icon_clap: I had entertained the idea of maybe getting it rebuilt and some valving changes done but it wasn't a huge priority :icon_think:
  6. I had the original R/R on my 98 go at ~40 000km and the upgraded one is still going OK @ ~100 300km Changed the battery just before that as I thought that was the problem and that's still OK as is the OEM stator
  7. I'm averaging ~10 000km out of the last 3 PR2 rears and it's the edges (specifically about 2/3 of the way between the centre and the outer edge of the tyre) rather than the centres like on the old PR's that are wearing out 1st The one PR2 front lasted ~15 000km before getting to the wear bars but I preferred the quicker handling of the PP so was going to go back to them, unfortunately no one had stock so I'm trying a PPure ATM :icon_think: Only done a few thousand km's so no real idea on wear but feedback seems similar to the PP and handling is probably just a fraction slower but much faster than the PR2 :icon_think:
  8. I believe that Banshee from OzBB (and here) had FI headers with slipon's and a K&N :icon_think:
  9. +1 I have replaced the coils and leads on my 98 XX BUT that was only because the caps were cracked and taped up on the coils They were working OK but I was just a bit concerned about the cracks etc so got some later model coils off eBay way cheaper than buying replacement leads, was going to just change the leads but ended up swapping the whole lot :icon_think:
  10. Alfa Romeo Twin Spark was an inline 4 with 2 spark plugs per cyl
  11. FYI NB10 All BB seats are the same apart from the covering The later ones had a stippled surface on the pillion section I have a 2005 one on my 98 :icon_clap:
  12. Honda's security system used on Euro (and Oz/UK) bikes. Bugger !! think i just found out that the US models didn't have HISS . Correct, the HISS is the immobiliser (Honda Ignition Security System) AFAIK the US/Canada didn't have HISS everyone else did
  13. Honda's security system used on Euro (and Oz/UK) bikes.
  14. A link to the threads on Dave's peg lowering blocks would be good This one and This one
  15. I usually run my rear PR2 at ~40-41psi cold, the front was the same and didn't like being below 38psi :icon_think:
  16. When I got my XX in 06 I was running std (not 2ct) PPf & PRr and was getting ~12 000km from a front and 10 000km to flat spotting the rear past the wear bars, then went to the PR2 rears and got about the same distance but was wearing out the sides not the centres and much better corner grip I currently have a PR2 front and it is worn past the wear bar @~16 000km so not 2>1 I think I will go back to a PP front though as while the PR2 wore longer it didn't tip in as quickly as the PP :icon_think: I was going to go back to a PP front due to the quicker steering but couldn't get any ATM, I've put on a Pilot Pure which is supposedly similar to the PP2ct but with even more area of softer compound on the sides So far have done ~1000km with some 2 up touring/quick street riding on a night ride through industrial estates and a high speed country ride and the Pure certainly sticks well and handles well (although maybe not quite as quick as the PP ). Will be interested to see what sort of wear I get as there is a little feathering on the sides already :icon_think:
  17. My wife would be forever in your debt if you can come up with something. +1 Though saying that I took the missus out on a ride up into the hills last week (~100km/60mi) and when we got off I asked her how her feet were as she usually got sore feet after a while and she was surprised that she hadn't even noticed the pegs and her feet felt good Then I showed her that I had fitted the ST passenger pegs, seemed to help a bit The ST pegs are longer, nearly twice as wide and rubber covered so obviously made a huge difference Still if some sort of lowering block was made up I would look at that as well due to her still finding the knee position a little cramped :icon_think: I will get the seat redone with more padding at some time also which will help :icon_think: Motorcycle Larry does brackets for the ST's but I think they would be too low and foul the std exhausts :icon_wall: Also just noticed THESE :icon_think:
  18. I do that all the time, so far have replaced the fronts twice with EBC HH and used the worn ones (~2/3-3/4 gone) in the rear brakes as the rears wear a lot slower than the front :icon_think: Works OK for my 98 and my 300lb's anyway

    Shim Bank

Got a mobile mechanic to check mine last June during the bikes (only) 1st major service since I got it 3 1/2 yrs & ~60 000km after I got the bike (now at 98 500km) and all were within spec Checking them seemed fairly easy but changing them looks like a bit of a pain, then again not many XX's need them changed
  20. I believe the drop etc on the Buell pegs and Dave's blocks are about the same I'm `6'1''/135kg (300lb) and love Dave's blocks The pegs could always be lower for cruising highways but then they would be too low for cornering :icon_think:
  21. I wouldn't call them small I reckon they are ~4"x4"x1" thick I've seen quite a few with smaller ballasts Maybe it's because yours is a FI Bird but with my carbed XX there is bugger all wiring either side of the headlight and no ducting Quite a few guys here in Oz with later FI Birds put the ballasts on the back of the instrument cluster but with the carbed instruments they wont fit there I looked at quite a few positions and most either didn't fit or the wiring was too short :icon_wall: I initially thought they may fit on the other side of the Ali but no luck
  22. Did you look at mounting the larger ballasts either side of the headlight assembly? That is where I found the most room on my 98 Ran some Ali between the HL bolts and bolted the ballasts to that
  23. When I got my XX in 06 I was running std (not 2ct) PPf & PRr and was getting ~12 000km from a front and 10 000km to flat spotting the rear past the wear bars, then went to the PR2 rears and got about the same distance but was wearing out the sides not the centres and much better corner grip I currently have a PR2 front and it is worn past the wear bar @~16 000km so not 2>1 I think I will go back to a PP front though as while the PR2 wore longer it didn't tip in as quickly as the PP :icon_think:
  24. I went with the Stealth for the reason I wanted a larger rear, had AFAM before but couldn't find larger than 45T +1 I got my Stealth 46 tooth sprocket & DID Gold 530ZVM2 chain a bit over a year ago for a good price shipped to oz
