  1. Try Jaws http://www.hondablackbird.co.uk/bird4.htm, scroll down the bottom of the page, made for carb, FI analogue dash and digital dash
  2. I am running a PP front PR rear combo and usually run 41/41 and have no problems, the front has about 2000km on it, the rear has nearly 10 000 km that I have put on it ( was on the bike when I got it ), it looked about 2/3 gone in the guts and about 1/3 gone on the sides when I got her and she now is badly squared off and is just starting to peel the top layer of rubber off the carcase in the guts and about 1mm on the edges ( new PR next week )
  3. I have also heard of using RC51 front ends. (Read that in some British bike magazine where they wanted to de-link the brakes & improve handling and braking). Yeah OzCrow did this to his Bird recently :icon_clap:
  4. Sort of like all the time you spend washing your socks instead of wearing them. What you actually wash your socks Haven't you got a woman for that J/K
  5. I am sure some guys on ozblackbird have swapped carb and FI wheel+ rotors and thats it :icon_think:
  6. er, check post 6... Thanks, I didn't see where he wanted to be contacted, will pm him. NP - that's one thing I'm not crazy about re: this forum set-up - No automatic way to know if someone replied to a post.. Although the search and archiving are top-notch!! Why not go to Options ( top right of thread ) and click on track this topic then you receive an email whenever someone posts in this thread - either immediately or delayed :icon_think: or when you post tick the enable email notification of replies in post options yep, I know - just used to the Delphi Forums where by default you get an email if someone replies "to you" in a thread (or not, if ya want, OR if ANYONE replies to said thread such as in here).. Kind of easier to carry on person-person conversation.. Not a big deal at all - just thinkin' out loud! Yeah CBRXX.com have a similar thing where you are automatically emailed of a reply unless you actually tick no replies box :icon_think:
  7. My ride to work is about the same 65km ( 40ml ) and varies from 110kmh highway ( 68mph ) down to 60kmh ( 37mph ) twisty stuff and I usually avg ~ 35-36 mpg to the reserve riding with avg amounts of throttle ( not babying but not wringing its neck either ) but just lately have been going a slightly different direction which is about 10km ( 6 1/4ml ) longer but increases the highway side to about 3/4 of the distance and have been averaging about 39mpg ( including a couple of short squirts to 200kmh ). So I am hoping that on a long trip at highway speeds I would avg over 40 mpg. BTW mine is a 98 carb ( stock carby + jets I believe and I have a top box and weigh 130 kg ( 300 lb ) :icon_think:

  9. Well I changed out my EBC HH front pads about a month ago. Although it was the back that wore out I put the 1/2 used front pads ( EBC HH ) in the back to replace the stock pads that were just starting to grind on the rear disc and I figure they will still last a good while seeing as the backs seem to get used up a lot slower than the front.
  10. Was yours FI or carb and did drilling the pipes affect your mileage :icon_think:
  11. Is that a Hyperpro spring for a stock xx shock or a 900RR shock and what do you want for it ?
  12. So I have finally received my 95 CBR900RR shock that I got of eBay, now I just need a spring rated for my heavy 130kg ( 300lb ) frame. After lots of checking on different threads it seems that getting one rated for my weight is the hard part, I seem to be down to either a special Eibach ERS 0600-225-1100 ( 6"x 2.25"x 1100lb ) spring that is apparently from their auto division or a Hyperpro progressive. I am waiting for the local suspension company to get me a price for the Eibach ( found one on LE engineering site but with postage and conversion she ends up at $ 260 AUD ). The Hyperpro distributor has quoted me $ 200 AUD for a Hyperpro but I am looking at 6-8 weeks wait to get one :icon_wall: Basically what I want to know is how you big guys with Hyperpro shock springs are finding them and whether I wait 8+ weeks for my shock to be done or go with the Eibach ERS ( depending on price ). BTW I like the sound of the Hyperpro progressive springs as I think they may be a bit better in the way they work in regards to my bad back ( couldn't get much worse than the stocker ) I just want the opinions of some other large riders ( J Bowen, PA Pete ? ) after some time with the Hyperpro.
  13. Hi ya Birdlover49 I am in Perth also and have a 98 Titanium BB and as you have found the suspension is a bit unforgiving, espescially for me at 130 kg although my problem is more that the rear is way too harsh ( shock is cactus IMO ) and just transmits all the small bumps through my back so I am going for a 93-95 CBR900RR shock and Hyperpro progressive spring on the back. According to popular opinion the front is undersprung and overdamped so the racetechs should help but maybe you should try a lighter weight oil depending on your weight, I do not find the front too bad on kerbs etc, I notice it more on small ripples etc. Try doing a search on suspension settup and If you haven't already check out www.ozblackbird.net , http://www.cbrxx.com/, www.ixxra.com and www.superblackbird.co.uk as there are many threads on this subject. One of the latest fixes is apparently the Traxxion fork cartridges. Hi Para045. Thanks for the guide. I'm a liteweight (85 - 90 kg depends on the beer intake) so appreciate that good spring on rear will make it more comfortable. Will try the stock oil rating with the new front springs first, with the 6mm washer on the rear shock. My techno dude (MDH Tuning) promoted this but have seen this suggestion on other sites/threads that you recommended. A CBR900 rear shock sounds OK, pity it couldn't have been a 954 rear shock - I really liked that on the 'Blade (gone now as result of promising to buy missus a Hornet 900 if she got her 250 license - an Ozzy joke on bike riders eh) - excellent response for a little adjustment. Will let you know how the experiment went. If the tune up and changes are completed Friday, off to Nannup via various routes for some testing roads. Tyres are on way out so expect a big improvement once they are fitted. Have had good results from Pirelli Diablo on the 'Blade and on my ride to work 'hack' (SV650). Also have dropped the stock Hornet tyres off and fitted Diablos to the Hornet for the wife. She feels much more confident with them on. Other sites promote Pilot Powers amongst the players. What do you run? Sorry must have missed this thread - unusual as I usually have them set so I get instant replies to certain posts :icon_think: I am currently running a P/Power front and a P/Road rear, the front has about 2000km on it and looks almost new, the rear is basically bald after nearly 9000km. When I got the bike in March it had a nearly bald and cupped D208 on the front and the P/R on the rear ( unknown # km ) and was about 1/2-2/3 gone in the middle and 1/3-1/2 gone on the sides, putting the P/P on the front transformed the bike - no more muscling the bike through corners and I was able to go round corners faster and smoother without running wide and it was like power steering. This also helped to even out the wear on the rear P/R, most of my travelling is up to work in Wooroloo, so I probably average 90kmh most of the time with about 2/3 of the trip on relatively smooth straight roads and 1/3 on tight bumpy roads hence the need to upgrade the shock :icon_wall: . BTW what are MDH Tuning like for general bike work and suspension work as I still need someone to revalve the shock and the BB will need a service soon
  14. Yeah OzCrow has gone the RC51 front end but a lot of work new triples, front guard different front wheel, different brakes and M/C.
  15. Hi..I have just fitted a set of VFR bars (must be V-Tec 2002 onwards ) to my 03 Bird and as an old godger (mid 50's in age and 5ft 7ins short )was from comfort point of view night and day.Paid $400 Australian new(result was worth 3 times that) and Honda dealer fitted in 1 hour. Pretty sure late model Birds are still 43mm dia so go for it. Cheers So where did you manage to find them for Aus $ 400 as I am in Perth and the local stealer quoted $570 without internal weights :icon_think:
  16. it's probably only because they stopped bringing in birds to the US in 2003................................we are the forgotten ones who live here......................mr honda sucks.................so you leading this invasion? will you guys be arriving by ship? maybe this time they'll let you aussie's ride above decks ? +1 on that the fork dimensions are the same 96-2006 so should fit no problem - the hard part will be finding the bars unless you are going to go for new as second hand they are like rocking horse shit as I have been looking for some for 3 months now. :icon_wall: There was one set on eBay just recently but he wouldn't shipp O/S and they went to $ 108 US and did not hit the reserve http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=39842 :icon_duh:

    Rear shock

They are not directly compatible. Something about modifying the top of the shock to fit........ Hmm, new Ohlins -01 to -04 are on sale here, alsmost half price. Any one know if it is a simple mod one can D.I.Y. ? The UK shocks seem to be OK as well. K-Tech, Hagon & Maxton are three that 'spring' to mind. As my '04 is 18K kms (12K miles), shock seems to be holding up well. Any others gone longer before swapping to aftermarket shock/spring combo's? My 98 has the original shock and I have a 95 CBR900RR shock coming for it as it is shot, just kicks back through my lower back and the screw at the bot is stuck solid. The bike now has 40 000km on it ( 8000km since March ) and the last couple of months it seems to have gotten worse - I think it was on the way out at 32 000km :icon_think: BTW being 130kg (300lb ) probably doen't help either :icon_think:
  18. FWIW I think that the R/R after 03 is different as well, the wires are longer as they changed the R/R to the other side of the bike and it is also more $ :icon_think:
  19. Now thats a worn sprocket! Looks like the chain and sprockets off my first bike Yamaha XS 250 except the teeth on the front in that picture are twice the length - eventually replaced them when the chain started slipping round the front sprocket under acceleration :icon_doh: I have since learned and will take good care of the chain on this bike having so much more power :icon_think:
  20. You mean like this http://superblackbird.arnolddegraaf.nl/ima...R1100XX04_s.jpg This colour was available in Europe, UK and AUS in 2004 and possibly other years. From reports on the BIRD site in the UK there was a few problems with the paint showing rub marks, going shiny etc. :icon_think:

  22. SWEET BIKE :icon_love: :icon_love: :icon_love:
  23. Well I have just bought myself a 95 CBR900 shock from ebay US $61 , shipping is actually more expensive than the shock US $65 Now I just have to get a suitable spring . So what is it they do they do when they rebuild the shock, they change the damping to suit your weight, spring and riding requirements and regas is that right I have looked at the Eibach site and they do not even list a rear spring for the 95 900rr let alone an uprated one _________________

    Brake pads

What about trying to take the top off the master cylinder - maybe there is no room for the fluid to go to when yo try and push the pads back in :icon_think:, I had this years ago on my 78 F100 4WD truck - had a big arse "G" cramp on the caliper after unbolting it because I could not get the pads in . I could get the pistons back but when I released the clamp they slowly moved back in, took the m/c cap off and fluid pissed everywhere but the pistons stayed back :icon_clap:. I actually just did my pads this arvo as the rears were down and starting to wear on the disc :icon_nono:, the fronts were only 1/2 gone but I got new EBC HH pads for the front ( already had them in ) and took the best of the fronts and put them in the rear to replace the stock Honda Nissin pads as I didn't want to have worn pads on the front and new on the rear and it saved me $ 56 . I am guessing that they are the original pads ( 39 000 km ), just in time as the weather is starting to warm up - tomorrow 10-29C should be nice for the ride home to and from work
