Anyone else cooking batteries with their Battery Tender?
XXBirdSlapper replied to OrganDonor's topic in The Garage
I have been using the 1562 Schumacher for years. My buddy had one and it was boiling his (old) battery and he threw it away blaming it for the problem. I suggested his battery could have had a shorted cell that was responsible for the charger opperating continuously to the point of boiling. He scoffed. One month later he had to replace the battery as it gave up the ghost. I thought the 1562 was still available at Farm and Fleet. -
What ever you do make sure to prepare the fetzer valve with 3 in 1 oil and gauze pads. Its all ball bearings these days.....

Preferable to a trans issue... -
You could always epoxy a mirror on the outside of the housing to reflect the light down.

Another thing that may be worth considering is the state of the caliper seals. If they are compromised you may get air in the system from that end. When I had more time in my life I made it a point to disassemble calipers and clean/rebuild them. Never had problems with those brake systems...

Not that the bike adapted, but after I spent enough miles to get a feel for it it seemed stronger. Again, feel isnt reliable. Back when I did a LOT of bracket racing I could feel 5-10 hp. No way would I say I could now on the street. I am with you on the weight loss. It was a big part of my decision to piss money into something I didnt really need.

Ok, in preparation for WIXX I finally devoted the time to installing the full yosh exhaust I bought for my 97 bird two years ago last week. Overall an easy install but tedious work making sure everything would be good for a 1000 mile weekend. Upon fire up it didnt seem too obnoxious. It did seem to sound deeper an louder by day three. After some ride time I think midrange actually improved. Of course with a powerfull machine feel is usually worthless. No stumbles or flat spots are obvious. I did not rejet yet. I thought I would just upsize the mains per the euro spec, and maybe shim the needles rather than go to a jet kit. So....has anyone ever dynoed the steps I am looking at completing? Also, I am tempted to try the decibel killer insert. As much as the bird sounds sweet, we had several ride segments that had me thinking the noise was asking for a talk with the man. Loved the quiet stock system but the RS3 was so cheap I HAD to buy it. Definately didnt need it. And yes, I used the forum search tool...but didnt find the answers I seek. Oh, and all the birds on the ride had dual slip ons, and while I wasnt riding behind mine think its louder than the duals... Comments?

I bought the wing rack. I also got two side cases that are large. But, they store so much i dont really need a top box. I can bungee stuff to the to of the wing rack plate. I have thought about getting two smaller side cases for most of what I do, but havent gotten arround to it. I feel the two large side cases cause a notible, but controllable, side to side tail wag at about 150+mph. At 170 indicated I felt it was not worth pushing the envelope with the bags on.

If you are pulling 6k clutch dumps on the strip and the lane is sticky and cant carry the front end through first gear, and the tach is wavy on power shifts its time. If the bike is lurchy and grabby trying to scrubb of the rear tire while working the clutch the steels are toasty and warped. Did your zero to 60ft times mysteriously go away?

If I remember I will post a pic this week. They are ok for cruising but not ideal for me when handling.

Not sure. At Wixx, I think Hobbie thought they were helibars. They were on the bike when I bought it. At the last minute I asked and the po found the stockers. Need to bolt them up when I do the next round of front end work and givem a try.

There is no universal solution. Ya gotta try it to know. When i bought my CBR1000RR last year I was concerned it would not be doable. Right after I did 5 hours on a ride to Indy and it was fine. Build core strength, stretch, and build knee/leg strength.

I would be seriously afraid of a failure that way. They designed the dual tabs for a reason. Also, for me, the bar risers on my bird will be swaped back to the oem clip ons. With a 36" sleeve length reach isnt a problem for me. I think the stockers may be more comfy, and offer better control. We'll see....

I have just the opposite goal. A peg highering kit??

The best way to have a Bird and do 200mph is to sell it and buy a ZX14.
