  1. Speaking of handlebars ... Did a hugely squidly thing on me Bird on the weekend ... Took forks out and replaced seals.. Put forks back in Friday night ( after a few after work beers - but only 3 ) and also replaced front brake pads whilst there .... Here's the squidly bit .... after about 80 miles Saturday night, tip into LH sweeper about 90mph .... fuck ... RH handlebar came loose and was in about 5 o'clock position ... Not much fun and about 8.5 on the shpincter scale .... Of course, didn't have the toolkit on the bike, so I rode the last 20 miles one handed ... Morale of the story ... Double check bolts next morning ( or don't drink piss before working on bike )
  2. Like I mentioned earlier , I popped a fork seal and I'm gonna pull forks out and give em to a mate to replace ... I'll do front pads while I'm there .. I also had a mate who worked as a Honda tech a coupla years ago mention steering head bearings on the Bird , he reckoned the originals were soft and if wheelies were common , they sould be replaced with after market tapered roller type . We were discussing front tyre wear when he mentioned it . Anybody had that experience ? Any tips or advice on oil and stuff , I'm a portly 135kg , mostly round town riding , the occaisional wheelie .. Help appreciated fella's Pete

    Piece of Crap

Japenese piece of shit ..... 7 years and 48000k's and I just blew a LH fork seal ... and got a loose wire for the headlamp in the RH switchblock . Do you reckon I gotta chance with Honda for some warranty ??? I'm so pissed I'm thinking of trading it on a Buell
  4. Obby , I know it sounds like a squidly answer .. but I had the sam problem on mine = 97 - jets/pipes/etc .... Only 200-220k's and then fuel lamp on .... Fully loaded on 3000k round trip ( Phillip Island 2002 ) .. Then I twigged and tried something different - riding at 100-110kph in 5th gear rather than 6th , my fuel range jumped to 240-250 before fuel lamp came on ... Leaving 6th for +140k's seems to improve low speed economy .. Like I said , maybe a squid style reply .. but it worked for me ... Pete
  5. Fella's , I asked this question in the BIRD site , but I'm still having problems .. Maybe one of you guys have seen this before ... Here goes .. Over here in Australia , our headlamps are hard wired = no on/park/off switch on the RH switchblock ... Low beam is " on " all the time . Here-in lies my problem. Bout a 3 weeks ago my low beam went out . ( Luckily during the day ) So I pulls the bulb out and replace it with new H7 - 55w . Still not working ??? Here's the strange part ... When I push the "Pass/Flash" with the hi/low in the Low position = the lower light illuminates - BUT - if I push the high/low to High while holding down the Pass/Flash = both bulbs ( upper and lower ) illuminate ..... Yes = I've checked the fuses = all OK , No I didn't swap the plugs from upper to lower when changing the bulb... I got a workshop manual on CD from Jaws in the UK - but it's very hard to read ( small print ) and it also appears not to cover the Aussie ( U ) model ... Any help would be appreciated as I need to head to the coast for the Easter Break and wanna take the BigBird real bad .... Pete
