  1. I've got Michelin Pilot Road 2's on front and rear. With about 2000 miles on them, so far so good. I live in flatland and occasionally travel to the twisties, so the longer-life centre compound was of interest to me. They were expensive though since we Canadians get raped on the prices. I paid $250 for the rear and about $180 for the front, both of which were "heavily discounted" at the shop. That's installed. If time comes to replace them, I'll see what the price will be and might go back to the PR1, or not, dunno. Tim
  2. Way to go! I was dancing naked in the street too when I figured my loom out. Actually, I'll whip off my FTL's anyday and do that! Ain't his internet thingy great? Tim
  3. Hey Mitch, let me know if you want to get rid of your stock exhaust when you upgrade. I've got D&D slip ons that have a nice low rumble, but it's loud and there are days I like to sneak out of the neighbourhood without waking everyone. Tim
  4. Good luck. Just have some patience and it should go smoothly. The loom itself isn't exposed very well but once you start cutting into the connector and loosening it from the loom, it's easy to work on. Tip: I used a very small piece of sandpaper on the flatter connectors and a toothbrush when I cleaned. Also, some spray electrical sealant is a good thing to put on the connections when they're done, soldered or just cleaned. Tim
  5. I second Yakasuko's post. I have a 1999 and I had issues with my FI light not coming full-on, but flickering on and off, but not flashing in a pattern. At only one time, I had not power between signal light flashes while changing lanes. http://www.bikersoracle.com/blackbird/foru...ead.php?t=16438 This article is gold. I did the same thing using this as a guide and it worked like a charm. I did NOT solder my connections, only cleaned the corrosion connector boxes. I also found corrosion in the other connectors around the battery compartment. I would highly recommend cleaning these out on any year or model of bike. Tim

    WD-40

Seems that somebody's actually contacted the chainmakers to see what they think about WD40 as a lubricant: http://forums.delphiforums.com/MagnaRider/...es?msg=13150.57 It appears that many people are using it to clean the chain and then using a specific chain lubricant or light weight oil afterwards... Word from WD40 company about its reaction with rubber: http://forums.delphiforums.com/MagnaRider/...es?msg=13150.85 Tim
  7. Mine were on sale at a local bike show in the winter. Tim
  8. Get a free Flickr.com account and post 'em there. Give the tags "joe rocket" and "cbr1100xx" and they'll be easy to find. Tim
  9. Nothing to do with your query Furious, but I think you missed the obvious choice face for your sig pic - none other than Mr. Furious himself: http://www.alyon.org/generale/theatre/cine...mystery_men.jpg Tim
  10. Do they look like these? http://www.flickr.com/photos/thetwistedwri...57594210108058/ I picked these up at a nice discount, though not as nice as yours. I love these bags, but I haven't used them in any substantial rain. They've got raincovers and built-in bungie nets though... Tim

    WD-40

Why second gear and not first? Tim

    WD-40

I've heard of a lot of riders using WD40 to lubricate their chains without any ill effects. Any XX riders doing this? Tim
  13. I think I've got the right plug then. There are only two wires going into it, although there are 3 holes an empty one in the middle. Tim
  14. Well, I just pulled off the tail bodywork and dug into the backend. I'm not sure exactly which plug it is for diagnosis. I found a clear rubber boot with about four connections in it, each a different colour. There was a solitary plug with 3 holes in a line and the case was grey or black. I've got the Haynes manual and it says the plug is supposed to be white. Did I get the right plug? I jumped this plug I found, turned on the key and the FI light flashed a single pulse at a time with a break between each. No other sequence to see. I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow when I've got more time. Tim
  15. Perhaps I'll give that a shot as well. My manual is at home (I'm at work) but I assume there's a way to put the ECM into diagnotic mode and read the sequence from the FI light? Incidentally, the light does not flash in a sequence as of yet, it kind of glows on and flickers out repeatedly with no regularity. Tim
  16. The alarm is mounted in the right side of the tail, right beside the ECM. I had to wiggle out the ECM with PCII past the alarm. I don't know what brand it is (key fob doesn't say), and it doesn't flash the lights. It just makes an annoying noise. I'm going to dig into it tonight and see if there are any markings on the alarm box. What's the deal with factory alarms on the XX? I recall that they were only on European bikes. BTW, the very first time I noticed the FI light come on was as soon as my wife sat on the pillion for the first time. Before that I had no issues at all, and I only had related power problems this past Sunday. I'd seen the light come on a number of times before recently (bought the bike at Xmas), but there weren't any power problems then. Tim
  17. I experienced the same glowing FI light problem that others faced in another discussion thread. The problem was deemed to be the PCII unit and that unplugging the PCII solved the problem. Well I was on a ride this past Sunday way far away from home with the wife on her B12. When my FI light came on on a hill, I flicked my highbeam switch as I'd done in the past to get it to go off. When I did, the power cut immediately. When I turned off the highbeams, I regained power just as fast with a nice bang with flame out the pipe. I tried it again and same thing. As I signalled to get to the side of the road, the same thing with each signal flash. Power loss, regain power. I pulled out the PCII hoping to see a difference. All was fine until way down the road when I flashed my brake light to warn of an impending quick stop. Then my light came on again. It stayed on for the rest of the leg until I let the bike cool down at a chip wagon. When I left for home, the light stayed off for quite a while but then came on again with a steady glow. I had no more power issues on the way home, and I dare say the bike felt stronger with the PCII removed, but that could've been the cooler air in the later day. The PO installed an aftermarket alarm and a Hornet electronic deer whistle. I'm wondering if the heat of the engine plus this wiring might not be causing a short of some sort. I test the battery when I got home. It was 12.8 V at rest and 14.2 V at 3000 rpms. So the charging system is working. Tomorrow I'm going to dig into it and look for anything fun. Any help is appreciated. Tim
  18. Damn I'm glad I found this thread, because I've been running into exactly the same issues with my FI light. I've got a PCII as well, but also an aftermarket alarm and Hornet electronic deer whistle. All these farkles were on the bike when I bought it from a used-bike dealer in December. It's also a 1999. For me, the FI light brightens and dims at will, and a flick of the highbeam switch will usually turn it off, but not always. The FI light will also flash with either turn signal. I was thinking it was a short circuit because of this, but now I see you guys are blaming the PCII. I haven't played with mine since I got the bike and I've got no idea how it's wired in or how to adjust it. How do I go about disconnecting it to see if it's the cause? Will the bike run poorly if it's not hooked up? FYI, I've not had any driveability issues since the FI light has been coming on, but the story of one guy getting stranded doesn't sit well with me. Tim
  19. Being a noobie XX owner, I'm curious what others are getting by way of clearances. My bike is at 22,000 kms (13665 miles) and the Haynes manuals says to check them in another 2000 kms. I'm wondering if I should even bother. Tim
