WTT Pelican 1500 for rifle case?
Redbird replied to TuffguyF4i's topic in The Sales Floor -- For Sale/Wanted
I have nothing to trade, but I can make a recommendation. I have one of these. Great case and I've compared it side by side with a Pelican. I'd give the Pelican the nod until you consider price, then it goes to the Plano. -
Does that spot contact the fork seal anywhere in the full travel of the forks? If yes, then it's a potential problem. If no, then it's not a problem. I'm guessing that's where one of the triples clamps onto the fork? If that's the case, reassemble and don't sweat it.

For the one that's spinning- spring & spacer in, assembled and lean on that fucker when you hit it.

First- impact wrench, and yes. Second- 000 steel wool.
-
Same way you get 8-10k out of a rear, I suppose.

What to pay for a mint '01-'03 Bird

Only the tank decals are under the clearcoat. -
I think I have a set still in the packaging out in the garage somewhere. You looking to buy?

What to pay for a mint '01-'03 Bird

Well, the value of that bike resides almost entirely in the low mileage. Put 10 or 20k on it in a year or two and all of the sudden it's just another '01 XX and worth half as much, maybe. Buying that bike to ride is a losing proposition, IMO. -

I can only see paying anywhere near that if was for collection purposes, Mike covered that better than I could above. Frankly, a better bike can be had for less money if it's going to be a rider. If you need/want to continue riding an XX (and there's nothing wrong with that), find a higher mileage unit with less potential collector value. -
I was assuming a need to get rid of some air. If you're just talking fluid replacement Poida and Krypt have you covered, no pump required.
-
Did you retract the CCT lifter when you did the valves and are you sure it extended properly when released? Being that removing the cams usually involves messing with the CCT and it's a known problem on these bikes, I'm voting for that as well.

I can honestly say I never tried. It's enough of a PITA even with a vacuum pump that I'd hate to try it without one. They can be had for about $20 and have a ton of uses. I'd recommend picking one up and saving the headache.

Selling My Redbird !!SOLD!!
Redbird replied to xxpress's topic in The Sales Floor -- For Sale/Wanted
Howie is probably XRDracer. He hasn't been around in a while but you could try a PM and see if he's still getting notifications for those. -
.04 is a lot of change for just lube, IMO. I'd start by checking some of the other shims in the kit with your micrometer and a known good one, or at least a different one. Any discrepancies and you might be pulling the cam again.
-
Someone else might show up with an easier fix in the meantime. Stan could probably swing by and fix it with a menacing glance.
-
Form a gasket should do for a clutch cover, no oil pressure present.
-
Unless it's a lot more complicated to access than most clutches I've seen (which is certainly possible, it is a Gas-Gas) I'd already have the cover off. Not what you asked for but probably where you're going to end up, anyway.

WTB Aprilia SXV 550 (bought)
Redbird replied to Speed99's topic in The Sales Floor -- For Sale/Wanted
I know a guy in TN with a Gas-Gas, that'll be even harder to find parts for than the 'Priller. It'd be perfect for you. -
I rode Jeff's (Byrdman) Busa converted XX years ago. Been long enough that I can't recall well enough to give an intelligent review, but it was a definite improvement. I also owned a ZX14 and I can tell you the Kawai bone stock front suspension was well ahead of my XX, which had been tweaked via oil and spring weight as well as fork height (I suppose the last isn't technically "suspension", but whatever...). Where the real everyday payoff probably is would be the brakes. Any modern setup (radial calipers and master) is going to blow the XX's 20 year old components out of the water in both feel and stopping power.

7.5" 9mm upper receiver w/extras

Sold. -
I put this thing together 2-3 years ago. I enjoyed the process, shot it a bit and it's sat in the safe since. I've kept it around because my neighbor's kid loves it when we go to the range together, but that's ultimately poor motivation. Time to move on, I have better uses for the lower. Slickside upper, stainless heavy profile barrel, Yankee Hill Machine 7" free float hand guard w/threaded endcap. Charging handle and CMMG ramped bolt carrier included. Also included in sale are a Spikes ST-T2 heavy buffer, one Colt 32 round magazine and a Promag 9mm magwell block. Full disclosure, the Promag block is kind of a piece of crap. It works once you get to know it, but for anything other than a range toy you'll want to invest in a better mag block or a dedicated 9mm lower. $400 + actual shipping for the package. Can deliver to RacerXX, no FFL required.
