  1. About 17% less air - the only way to compensate effectively is forced induction. Or buy a ZX14
  2. You gotta remember that Arctic and I are 7000ft above mean sea level... that might be a factor, but dropping a gear and wicking it sounds far more sensible - also, drop to a 16 tooth front sprocket for better pull out corners.
  3. If you have a source for a replacement glass lens please share... I need a new headlamp too (costs nearly US$900 here in South Africa) and I'm choking on the fixit prices. A new lens would make things lots easier/cheaper.
  4. Go to the important Useful threads section of this Forum and you will find what you are seeking You may have to PM Swampy for the good stuff - the linky was missing last I looked
  5. I knew there was something special about my '97 tractor-technology 'bird
  6. I just did the shim - only did 2 x 2.5mm washers for a total of 5mm. What a difference!!! The bike is far quicker and lighter in bends, and corners where I usually touch my toe down are clear again... gonna have to push harder now. One side-effect I noticed is that I can get the bike on the mainstand while sitting on it a-la N1K
  7. EDIT: Take your foot off the brake FIRST
  8. Check the rating on the fuse? It might be shorting to earth?
  9. Someone had a linky for a group buy on HID auxiliary lights a while back... think it was about US$225 or something... that would give you the "ball of light" effect floating down the road and still come in just over the same draw as 2 x 55w halogen bulbs for 4 x 35w HID Anyone wanna look like a UFO?
  10. I have the LED cluster bulbs in my stock taillight ('97 bird) and during the day the bulbs are visible from the side on both taillamp and brakelamp. At night it is very bright - with brakes off it looks like eyes from behind, and the diffusion in the red lens of the stock taillamp lights up pretty much the entire lens. The brakelight at night is just plain evil... very bright and quite offensive close up. Guys behind me at traffic lights tend to shield their eyes if they are close - nasty bright.
  11. Get rid of the bridgestones.... thats likely your problem right there. My head shake problems went when I changed to Metzeler Z6.
  12. Welcome, John... A thick skin is sometimes needed here
  13. Replace with new... I tried cleaning my old plugs "just in case" with gas, kerosene and magic green and they are now royally fucked. The only thing you can do as far as I can see is replace - changing the spark gap isn't a great idea either it seems.
  14. I don't have a flat spot anywhere in the power delivery on my '97. From where I stand it doesn't get any better!!
  15. Got yours ready to go out tomorrow, Tuesday. I have only one left in stock untill next week when I will have 10 more coming in. John Hi John, Mine has started making slight noises - wondered if it is CCT or the PAIR system making the noises... What would be the CCT cost be including shipping to Johannesburg, South Africa? I'm gonna make a PAIR blockoff plate from 6mm aliminium - just need to make a template first.
  16. Check your tire pressures too...
  17. I did Pilates for a couple years with my late wife. Helped my dicky back immensely, and gave me much more flexibility and stamina. Also developed quite a decent sixpack - the core excercises work the gut area bigtime. Oh... and if you do it in classes, the wimmen look great!!! I was the only guy
  18. suspension setup HOWTO seems quite comprehensive... coud be a target for the repost nazi tho
  19. This is likely to affect ground clearance as well, isn't it? great for getting a knee down in campus
  20. I use autosol on my exhausts and rims to get the gunk and tarnish off.... is the only thing I found that works great on melted shoe rubber on exhausts B
  21. The OEM ones are by far the worst I tried the BT010 and BT020............. Not much better...... Didn't inspire me to try the BT014......... :icon_hand: A few here swear by the Metz....compelling enough to maybe give them a run.... I just went from a BT010 front / BT020 rear combo to a matched Metzeler Z6 front and rear and the difference was amazing. I hadne't scraped footpegs either side before on the Bird, but manage now on a daily basis on the freeway cloverleaf exchanges on my way to the office. And I'm the same woosie not-very-ballsy rider I was before... no changing in a telephone booth shit for me
  22. tHe flash cadence seems about right... the bike came with fugly aftermarket rear signals... the front ones are just too darn dull - in bright sunlight its almost impossible to see them. I'm gonna clean the contacts anyways and see if I can get a higher rating bulb... perhaps that may make a difference. Tx guys
