  1. I had a beautiful all day ride planned with my buddy. The day before the ride I decide to check the plugs and air filter (my first time with the bird). Instructions in hand, I remove the tank, air cleaner ect. Plugs look good, K&N air fiter looks good. I put it back together. Get ready for the ride this morning. Gear on, bike to bike communication charged, tank bag set, ready to go. Start the bird up, gas is low. Head down to the gas station. Bird spudders and dies. Pushed the bird to the gas station. Filled it up. Birds starts again, spudders and dies. Broke out the onboard tool kit. lifted the tank, check the fuel lines. All looks good. Start the bird, spudders and dies. :burn: Now I'm late for my ride, birds dead and buddy is pissed but on the way to help (there was a timeline involved). Start pushing my bird back home (1/2 mile or so). After pushing that bird up steep S.F. hills for about 30min. I thought I was going to die. Buddy arrives to help push (THANK GOD!). Get home. Gather myself ( :drinkbeer: ). Take apart everything again. Finally, with the tank off I notice that the fuel will not drain out (yes, with the gas knob turned to the ON position). There seems to be a vacuum hose connected to the petcock valve (not sure of the spelling). I notice that there seem to be two vacuum nipples coming out of the petcock. One at at 6 o'clock and one at say 9 o'clock. :bigshock:. The correct nipple sit at the 9 o'clock postion on the petcock. To look at the two, it was very hard to tell which was the real one  . Put the vaccuum hose on the correct nipple. Start the bird, vrrrmmm. Purrrr, purrrr, purrrr. All is good . What a dumbass I feel like now. I will never work on the bird again. I feel like stupidest person on the face of the planet.
  2. I've been gearing up for my first oil change on the bird now for a couple of weeks (last oil change 2,500mi ago). Today I checked the oil level dipstick and saw no color change in the oil AT ALL! Not a drop missing either! I thought, "what the fuck, must be seeing things". Checked it again. Golden clean! Like it just poured out of the bottle (no shit). Is this normal for the bird  ? My Turbo Kawasaki's oil turns black the minute I put it in. I guess I should still change it though (viscosity break down and stuff).

    ENGINE VIBRATION

My '97 does that a little too. I think it may be the twin counterbalancers. I believe that they can be adjusted too. The Bird runs so smooth though, I don't want to fuck with it.
  5. I am interested in this idea too. Has anyone tried one the the newer PDA's for GPS navigation on their Birds? They would cost about the same as the Garmin V unit ($500.00) Currently I am using a separate MP3 player and a friends GPS receiver. I would love the idea of an all-in-one system. The additional benefits of the Pocet PC OS alone would be cool. Anyone tried this? Anyone? Ps. I don't care about it being waterproof (sun only for me and the Bird).
  6. .No problemo. It didn't take long to find that out. I wonder why they moved the oil cooler on the FI models. Probably due to the ram air? Ps. These Phillips bulbs are much brighter and whiter with a wider range. That's what i noticed right off anyways. I think I may need to point them down a little though. They're just bordering on high beam lighting. When I turn both bulbs on (high beam), damn bright  No problem seeing anything.

    100W Headlight?

Thanks Hookman, I actually was desparate and started another thread on this subject. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forum/viewtopic.p...cb0ac1868cfbd3b
  8. Damn that cheap. I paid 4.80 a quart at the WalsMart here in the SF Bay Area. They only had one case left (6qts.)
  9. Ok Everyone, I did it! Definatley as easy as I had hoped the first time (print these instructions). 1. It is impossible to reach underneath the upper cowl on a '97 BB. There is an oil cooler blocking your every move (correct JasonW). 2. Remove the upper cowl covers (right and left, it doesn't take long). 3. Pull the electrical connections straight back and off (wiggling may be needed). 3. Now you can easily see THE DAMN CLIPS! Ok, this was what was not explained, diagramed or pic'd in the Service Manual AT ALL! It is a fairly simple process, but "F" if it shouldn't be explained a little  . The clip "indeed" needs to be push-in, then slid CounterClockwise gently (not upwards, through what seems to be a release point). 4. After the DAMN CLIPS are out of the way the bulbs are completely free. 5. To insert the new replacement bulbs, make sure to turn them (looking into the headlight while inserting helps) until a notch on the bulb housing aligns and the bulb and cannot be turned anymore. Now gently swing the DAMN CLIP back into position and push down and upwards to lock (click). Ahhhh... Time for a Night Ride (testing purposes of course)! As was said, after you have done this once, it is a fairly easy process (small hands would help). Time to check them out now... (Phillips H7 12v/55W Vision Plus)
  10. exactly what my '97 manual said. Like it's no problemo. Maybe if you have the hands of a six year old! (hmmm, my kid) I sure wish the manual would have had a picture of the removal of that clip. I had no idea what was holding it in place, looked like screws to me. Damn thing wouldn't budge. I didn't want to force the issue though. I have a tendancy of breaking anything I use force on. Ask my wife. Thanks, I will give it another go when i feel brave.
  11. Ok, I finally got the new Phillips bulbs I recently ordered. I followed the manual and removed the left side upper dash cover. Now I can see both the upper and lower bulbs. One problem, when I tried to remove the lower bulb, the retaining clip seemed to be screwed down by two phillips screws on either side. The area is too tight to get a screwdriver into. Now what? Anyone done this before?
  12. I think in recent tests, Castrol Synthetic (? weight) would be the next in line for good automotive oils.

    Dash shake....

Had the same problem. Damn dash was bouncing around on the freeway. Initially i wedged some rubber under the dash to keep it from bouncing. When i was installing the ZG DB, i found the true culprit. The center rubber mounted retaining bolt had freeplay in it (even with the nut tighten down). I looked around the garage and found a universal faucet repair kit (many different size rubber washer in it). Found one that fit, added that and a washer to the stack, presto... no more bouncing!
  15. Most people here leave the sprockets alone. If you want better wheelies, add a tooth in the front  . Check out the poll>> http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=523
  16. Not really. At last year's meet someone asked me about my suspension mods without even knowing I had done any. He said when he was riding next to me on the freeway his bike was bouncing around while mine was just solid. It's an improvement you can feel everywhere. Swampy , I have that problem in my rear shock only (Works Shock). What should I adjust to prevent bouncing off my seat? Should I turn the knob or loosen the main spring thingy? As you can tell...I don't have a clue

    100W Headlight?

Thanks everyone! I'm almost ready to order. Looks like I'm going to play it safe and get the Phillips Vision Plus bulbs (don't like the sound of melting my headlight housing :???: ). One stupid question though. What is the bulb Type (H1, H4 , H7)? ...and are the highbeams and lowbeams the same Type? I didn't see the bulb Type in the manual, just 12v - 55W.
  19. I know this has been discussed, but has anyone actually installed a 100W Bulb in their XX (i can't see a damn thing at night)? If so, what brand? Can I just go to a local automotive shop and pick up a set of PIAA Bright Whites or Phillips?
  20. Crazy Man... I love the power surge of my mod'd Turbo Kawi. The XX must be crazy with Nitro (hope it doesn't hurt the engine). Can't wait to see the pics.
  21. Didn't someone say something about loose stearing head bearing with those symptoms.
  22. When i went the local Honda dealership, they said that the VX (platinum i guess) were replaced with IX (irridium). I suppose i could use the platinum, but it makes me wonder why they told me to use irridium. :???:
