  1. When I repainted my bird I had a graphics shop here make me up a set. If I had your email I could send a pic or two. The shop here would still have my work on file. MTXX Oops. Now I see your email address. Will send right now.
  2. I need to replace grips on the XX. I have searched & read what is here. Has anyone tried the Driven D3 grip? I like the look of them, but wonder about comfort. Thanks, MTXX
  3. Time to replace the CCT on my '99 XX that has 47k miles on her. I know there are some good threads on here dealing with this, but I can not find them. Can someone link me up with those threads please? Thanks, MTXX Half hour later.... Never mind! I just changed it out. It was a piece of cake. When I pulled the key out I heard the tenionsor snap down to the rail, put the old screw into the new CCT and that was it. The XX sounds much better. Should have done it earlier.
  4. I just discovered the same thing about the PC II and III. I finally noticed the extentions on the two files. My PCIII came from the factory w/ the map for D&D slipons and aftermarket or stock filter. The filter does not seem to make a difference. I looked at the map that was loaded and it mostly leans out all the way up but mainly low to mid throttle. I can't wait to get it on and try it. And try the new windscreen somemore. I paid $265 for my PCIIIUSB delivered by the way. Good Luck w/ the group buy. MTXX
  5. I just received my PC and have the same cans and filter on my '99. I downloaded your map and if I'm reading it right it is a zero map. I'm still trying to figure out how to work the software though. Is it a zero map? Thanks, MTXX
  6. With the very limited time I had to test, it seemed to be hitting me about mid-helmet. I am 5'10'', custom seat that may sit a little lower and bars raised to the top of the fork tubes. MTXX
  7. Update on new windscreen. I installed the Vario Touring screen tonight and got to put a couple of miles on. It is not an ST or FJR, but in it's highest position it has a lot more protection than does my Lockhart/Phillips screen. In the lowest position it is about the same even though it is higher. In the higher positions there is very little air hitting chest, shoulders of upper arms. When tucking in there is alot more dead air over the tank. I was testing it w/ a strong side wind so it is hard to tell exactly how it's going to be. I did run it up to about 120 mph and there was not the usual lift and tug on the helmet. I need to spend some time w/ it, but my riding season may be at an end. (snow tonight) I think I'm going to like it though. I may be able to post some pics if anyone is interested. You'ld have to excuse the dirty 'Bird. MTXX
  8. I have a set of Yoshi slip ons and I really like them. They sound better w/ RPM, have a nice gurgle at idle. They are much lighter than the stock cans too. My '99 has run great w/ them and a K&N filter. This week though I have a Power Commander coming for it. Good Hunting MTXX
  9. I have a '99 w. Yoshi slip ons and K&N filter. Which PC do I need?
  10. I have a '99 w/ K&N filter & aftermarket slipons. Which PC am I to use the PC II or PC III?
  11. Thanks for this thread. I am thinking the same way as far as making the XX more comfortable. I ordered the Vario Touring Shield today. I will put in my .02 when I have some time w/ it. I've raised my stock bars to the top of the fork tubes already, had a seat built, put on a set of Buell pegs. I have tried a windscreen or two, but want more wind protection. I'm hoping the Vario will do it. I have thought about changing bikes, but after having the XX all this time it's hard to be excited about anything else. I spent some time on an '06 FJR and was impressed w/ it, but it wasn't my XX. Now I'm looking to replace the rear shock. I think Ohlin would be the way to go, but they are expensive. I've already done some fork work and that was a great improvement. So the Ohlin would probably be worth it in the end. Keep the comments coming. Will give my thoughts on the Vario when it comes. MTXX
  12. Scott, The cluck I have had from time to time is the master link. I have had it replaced a few times. It seems to last a few thousand miles then starts binding again. I just had it replaced again this week. I probably use 3 to 4 master links for the life of the chain. And it doesn't seem to matter what link is used. I believe the problem is in the installation. I wish the clip type link could be used. Good Luck, MTXX

    Fork Mod threads?

For anyone that may be interested. I pulled my forks and replaced OEM inner bushing and fork oil w/ Race Tech components. I wanted to use thier outer bushing too, but they weren't selling enough of them so they quit produceing them. The tech said the bushings would take a little while to work in so I'm hoping for more improvement. The results: It is an improvement over stock setup. The front end is more complient and soaks up the sharp bumps much better. It makes the rear end feel more harsh now. I may play w/ the preload on the shock, but I don't want it too soft. Overall the front end works better than stock, it was worth the expense and time. I also put on the Buell footpegs. I had to modify them a little. The casting was too wide to slip into the XX footpeg bracket, but it went on w/o too much work. I stayed w/ the stock pin and did not enlarge the bracket in case I put the stock pegs back on, which I don't think I will. I really like the position the Buell pegs. It is much easier to left the legs to the pegs to start w/, but the riding position is better all around. But the setup is not perfect. I lowered the shift lever one spline, but the side stand tab was in the way. I switched it back and forth and finally decided to lower the shift lever a remove the tab. I really like the left side now. Everything fits and feels good. The right side is not perfect. I lowered the brake lever as far as I could w/o really modifying it and it's still a little high. It really needs to go down another 1/4" - 1/2", but I'll see if I get used to it. Overall though the Buell pegs are nice. I thought I would miss the stock rubberized footpeg, but I don't even notice it. The XX is so smooth. I would give some pics if my connection wasn't so slow. My ISP is supposed to have cable to me this summer. I hope this helps somebody. Ride Safe!

    Fork Mod threads?

It is Race Tech's US 1 Ultra Slick = 2.5 - 5 w. I asked him about that because I was going to use Silkolene 7.5. The tech said US 1 is the oil to use w/ the XX no matter what your weight. This is thier address for the XX parts list: http://www.racetech.com/evalving/english/S...angname=english
  16. I ordered a set of Buell pegs today. If they are half as effective as I read here they will be worth it. I ordered from Surdyke Buell online. With shipping they were less than $28 on sale.

    Fork Mod threads?

Thanks for the replies. I checked out Race Tech and thought about going the Gold Valve route and doing it myself, but decided I didn't need that much done. My forks have never let me down, but just want less friction on top. After talking w/ Race Tech techs I ordered inner fork bushings ( outer bushings are obsolete to Race Tech ) and I went w/ thier fork oil. It's twice the price of Silkolene, but the tech sold me on it. If anyone is interested in how it feels when I'm done I'll leave a thread. Thanks Again, MTXX
  18. I know fork mods have been discussed here, but I'm having a hard time finding the threads. I have my forks off to replace seals & am thinking about having them worked over. Any thoughts on who does good work and how effective was the modification? I'm open to any and all comments. Thanks, Cless
  19. Just got my 45/46 tires friday, but will wait until May to put them on. I am liking what I hear about these tires. MTXX
