  1. Running Pilot Power 2ct now and love them. Last set was replaced at 10,000 miles and using Conti Sport Attack front Road Attack rear. Bike is not babied at all and the front could have gone much farther. Had sililar results with the Road Attacks on an R6.
  2. Did it actually get better fuel mileage?
  3. A few years back there was a test done in one of the magazines that took 3 high performance cars like the Corvette, Mustang GT and I can't remember the 3rd, which were supposed to run premium and drained it all out. They put enough regular gas in them to run each car 3 times down the quarter mile. Then they drained the gas again and put enough premium in for the same test runs. Interestingly the cars did run better times with the premium fuel. Now, you can run dirty fuel in a blackbird and no doubt it will run fine with it knock sensor there to adjust but for someone to say their bike runs like crap on premium while causing it to vibrate and such is just crazy. The sticker said 91 and I run 93. In 24,000 beautiful miles that bike has been flawless. In fact, I changed the plugs and to be frank didn't even need to because they looked that good. For the pennies it costs in difference and knowing how good things worked with slower burning fuel I'll stick with the good stuff.
  4. I've never even tried 87. I run 93 and have since the bike was new. I mean the thing said 91 so the closest we have is 93. The plugs I just swaped out were honeycomb in color and I probably could have run them much longer. The engine runs electric smooth and no buzzing at all. I can ride that thing for mile after mile in comfort. Running the higher octane won't hurt anything........except your wallet. :icon_doh: At a difference of 1 dollar a tank full I don't see that being an issue...LOL

  6. Why would you run regular unleaded gas when the Owner's manual & EPA sticker recommend 91 RON min? Trips to the red-line are unnecessary as that engine has long since stopped making horsepower or torque. I do however agree engines like to be exercised. Don't know about your owner's manual, but mine says to use minimum octane rating of 86. Regular unleaded is all I have ever used in my street-legal Bird. Got over 43K on the odo and it still runs like new. Had it on a dyno couple of years ago and it made 138HP with 4 into 1 Yosh and no P/C. Motor has never been apart. Interesting, the 02 and 03 want 91.

  8. Can't remember who makes them but I got them at Pep Boys in the exhaust section. They are made for foreign cars. There is one on either side.
  9. In all and without knowing the whole story I can only go on general information. Based on the original scenario and readings I would have run the individual pistons to TDC or BDC and then attached an air hose to them one at a time to determine where the loss was. Rings, out the pan; intake valve out the throttle body; exhaust out the tailpipes and if the head gasket is blown you will generally see bubbles in the radiator fill port. Either way you know where the leak is. The XX engines are known for long life so I would be really surprized if you found a problem in the short block but I would check the deck and head to be sure the overtemp didn't warp either.
  10. That's what i was thinking but thought i'd ask anyway, thanks for the input... Now i just have to get hold of the special tool to drop the engine out the frame, Anyone know if this tool(s) is only avail from Honda? Don't know how many miles are on the bike but after overheating, a blown headgasket could cause the low readings on the one hole. The electrical issues won't have anything to do with it.
  11. Out here pretty much any aftermarket unit at all will get noticed and likely within a half mile. We don't hear planes, trains, taffic and the general noises of day to day life. There are 5 houses in a 6 mile stretch of twisty back road and we all own bikes of one type or another. That said, the house is 1/3 mile off the main road coming in and if 2 cages past by the property in an hour that would be considered a traffic jam...LOL Thanks for the comment on the bike, my wife and I love it.
  12. I'm using the original exhaust all the way out so there are two resinators. The left looks identical to the right. As far as clean goes, that bike is a royal pain to take a picture of because that black is so reflective everything shows including clouds, lines in the parking lot, trees, people standing next to it and so on. You know things are going well when you have a Harley that's just as clean and full of nice shiney chrome as a back up bike...LOL Note I said back up. I used to live in SoCal until 2006. Some of my friends there have kept me informed of the noise laws and wow, are things getting out of hand or what? Here we have no smog checks at all and the riding is unreal because this is a sink hole plain. Lots of twisties, elevation changes and no traffic at all.... Tofu????? LMAO!!!!
  13. If I lived in California it may be a problem. I can still use my MP3 player and I don't know that it is actually any louder in terms relative to db on the A weight scale than some of the aftermarket tubes. The sound is very clean and quite sharp. I can however tell you my neighbor who lives a mile away can hear it coming in when when I am on it. See, we don't much worry about loud here and the poe poe doesn't much care either. It's still free here...LOL!!! As far as looks go, who wants a sausage hanging off the side of their bike. Things are going clean like under seat or under belly. Personally I'd rather look at a clean swingarm and rim assembly.
  14. They say pictures can speak 1,000 words. This one should tell you everything you need to know and it sounds better than any slip on or header system I have heard regardless of price. No changes in mapping were necessary. No codes, lights or malfunctions whatsoever. Plug read after thousands of miles? A perfect honeycomb color across all four juggs......
  15. I searched and searched for an exhaust for my 2003 XX and said forget this. I wasn't willing to spend the kind of money manufacturers wanted to get what I considered sound that was simply just that same old sportbike sound and to what real advantage? So, just by chance I ran across a You Tube video of a guy in Europe that extended the stock headpipe and ran the exhaust unbaffled and totally open. Hmmmmmm, there it was, an XX that was alive with a sound unique to itself much like the bike. I didn't like the way it was done but I had to have that sound. In doing a bit of research I located two resinators that weigh very litte and they are only 6" long. Coming off the headpipe they look great and the sound mimics that of an F1 car. So, what was wrong with this idea? Absolutely nothing and in fact the bike runs cooler, has a mean run after 7,000 rpm, gained almost 4mpg on a free run and has no flatspots, glitches or malfunctions of any kind. Now having gone the last 14,000 plus miles this way the plugs read good and it cost me a whole $48.00. So, if you live in an area like I do where freedom still means free open that thing up and set it free too because this bike turns heads and not from noise, from just sounding flat mean.......
