  1. Yep, was the 2nd stop i made at the local radio shack. Some 15yr old looki g chick on her phone and when i said i needed a 12v 30amp relay the deer in the headlights look i recieved triggered the smartass area of my brain and told her i would look and let her know when i need some AA batteries That 5pin info is good to know.. will be handy to have a couple spares. Might have to get help on wig wag lights at my company wants us to get flashing lights for on site use. No wires showing, no cigarette lighter plug in types either. Integrated in the truck lights with a clean install and dash button install.. Thanks again for the help.. This place is awesome
  2. Thanks for the info.. i looked at the 5 pin relays as well thinking they might work as well maybe but didnt know for sure. Reading more about the differences between the diodes and resistors having pros and cons i didnt want to chance killing my ecu with the wrong one.. I went to advance, radioshack, napa, auto zone and o'reillys in search.. all looked puzzled and 2 googled it and found them online at the same places i did for $30 each. http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html If you go there and scroll to the bottom there is a good explanation of the different relay types. I kept reading about making sure to use the correct one over and over on the triumph boards. Never knew of the electrical spikes occuring at the coils when the circuits open back up and cut power to the accessories.
  3. I thought so also till i looked into it more Since an inductor (the relay coil) cannot change it's current instantly, the flyback diode provides a path for the current when the coil is switched off. Otherwise, a voltage spike will occur causing arcing on switch contacts or possibly destroying switching transistors.
  4. Goes to the fan on my triumph, ecu sends the signal to turn on so thats the big reason for the diode. It wasnt coming on and after running a test through TuneEcu I have the relay energizing but no fan. After taking the case off I could see why.. was super crusty inside, even cleaning it didnt help as it was so bad. I did look up some basic 4 pin relays where i can get 10 for $15. A 100 of the diodes that are used are $4 Make them myself and have plenty of spares. Simple enough to do, just make sure the diode is going the right direction. Solder, snip excess, put case back on. Do use those 5 pin relays as well on the bike.
  5. Thanks Jon, Hopefully they do and doesnt cost $30 thats insane for a simple relay with a snubber diode. I want to solve this issue and move on to the next.
  6. I am looking for a normally open 4 pin relay 12v 30amp with a diode. Looking online for the part needed its roughly $30 from bike bandit and other sites. Its just a simple Hella relay and common on many bikes and autos Would this be something easy enough to get at napa, auto zone or advance? Their websites suck, and would like to have it to work on bike this weekend.
  7. Get a shovel and dig a pit, drive over it and no worries.. Cheap, good exercise
  8. You are looking for a rock sling... more importantly you are looking for a Tsumura (yes its a real word) sling. might have to make your own, not very hard to do if you got some chain, a cut off wheel and some basic screw connectors
  9. it does give you some peace seeing real time voltage. The one I used was a pretty simple install and held in place with 3M Velcro. Find it to be a little too big to cut a permanent hole on my bike, so I would suggest the use of a smaller one similar to what Phillip used in his mirror. Smooth clean install he has for his, really like that. Don't know how other meters compare, but mine does get washed out from the sun at certain angles when the sun is behind me or shining over my shoulder. But is clear 99% of the time.
  10. I switch my Jr. between the two bikes to maintain them both. Sometimes I throw it on the lawnmower. Have had a battery fail on me at the beginning of a ride. Unplugged the Jr. bike started fine, rode to town 10 or 11 miles. Stopped at a store for 2 minutes and dead. Not enough juice to do anything. Got jumped started and rode to autozone where I did a systems check, all pointed to the battery. $100 later I was up and going with a sealed gel battery. Think that battery died 3 yrs later.
  11. Bird takes DOT 4 Can use DOT 5 if you want to flush the system Don't use DOT 5.1 forget the actual reason, but remember not to touch it I like to flush my entire system once ever year or so..
  12. that looks awesome... and fun check your lug nuts
  13. actually believe the speed bleeders are on sale at harbor freight for $25 then use a 20% off coupon what kind of lines do you have on your bike Steve?
  14. Just to hijack this thread even more. Had two shootings last night within miles of my house. One incident left the guy dead, other incident guy was med flighted out. I live in the middle of no where.. Glad I got my bow to put fear and lower the attackers morale. Hehehe
  15. Yes please acquire a shoty to keep man card. I lost all mine on a duck hunt recently. Looked like this but wet when I last saw it. Was legal, with barrel and overall length. I'm not a thug.
  16. where the hell do you live? Sounds awesome. Scott taking up turkey hunting?
  17. Agree with what was mentioned above, 3 months really isnt that long of a time for serious harm to occur unless something was already in motion. K.I.S.S Fresh gas in tank would be my starting point Next time riding, adj the choke and see if condition improves.
  18. http://www.sportrider.com/ram-air-whats-it-worth Good read about.
  19. how much psi is created in the stock airbox when the system is pressurized going above 110-115mph creating the ram air effect? My PCIIIr is tuned to richen up a bit in the upper gears around 8k rpms (when you would be hauling ass) Most dyno's dont replicated the air speed being shoved into the bike at speed. Just a cute fan to keep the bike cool. Guess we could use a leaf blower aimed at the nose intake. They do what 160mph wind speeds? That could help get a better real world tune.. maybe I should take a leaf blower with me next dyno run. would get some weird looks with it strapped on my back. Make liberals think its an assault rifle.
  20. Saw an article years ago saying that a larger (rounded) person (200lb+) would get a few more mph on the busa than say a skinny (140lb) rider because of the aerodynamics at speed. The larger person leaned over cuts out a little bit more area that the smaller person would catch more wind. Sure persons shape, tank shape, windscreen come into play. Your bike and body shape will give you various results. The weight difference will have more direct effect on the acceleration than top speed. Streamliners can weigh a shit ton and while slower starting they cut through the air much cleaner than a lighter machine with higher drag coefficient resulting in higher speeds.
