Your friend with the 160/75 ... how did that number come to be? What were the conditions involved in getting that number?

Not sure what you mean, it just is.  However, last night I found out that he had no clue how to properly measure BP.  He wasn't doing any of the right steps.  Sit down, feet flat, rest at least five minutes, test, and then test again a few minutes later.  He'd walk up to one of his bar stools with legs dangling (crushes leg arteries) or do it right after being outside/walking around.  WTF.  So we have no idea what's right.  At the doctor he was "only" 150/75.  He had been doing well on weight and diet until his obese, junk food making sister moved in and went back to eating junk.  So he's going to work on that again.  Also I've talked about him before, his knees are always in pain when he's eating junk, and limit his abilities, but he's fine if he eats well.

  2. Interesting variations.  You had a crazy low one, do you think it was measurement error?  I've been reading more about BP lately as my systolic has dropped a lot, probably from both better diet and lost weight.  But diastolic went up a little.  It looks like this is actually good.  On Wednesday I found out a good friend is at 160/75 which is probably really terrible.  The low diastolic with high systolic seems to correlate with more events.

  3. I'm subscribed to the Reddit sub where those posts come from, it's pretty funny.  The best are the ones who say that the harassment, stalking, V2k (voice to skull transmission of words), and similar things stopped...when?  While they were in therapy and on drugs.  "THEY just want to keep us all on drugs and in therapy."  Man, SO close to figuring it out.

And I make fun of it but also realize that mental illness is not funny and they have a real medical problem.

    Sounds like pure marketing BS.

Half marketing, but not PURE marketing BS, and kind of surprised you haven't seen it before.  It generally some stated health benefit, although "healthy" is hard to define and it keeps changing as we learn more.  So for example most nutrition experts would agree that wheat protein is "clean" while the majority of protein supplements are not, and are more likely to cause some gastrointestinal issues for a lot of people.  Moriah and I both react to the standard protein adders which are dairy based.  A lot of people do and don't really think about it until they have something different.  But we have no reaction to bone broth protein or plant protein.

Here is a pretty balanced overview of the idea:

The term is characterized both from the consumer’s perception of what “natural” suggests and by the ways food manufacturers market their products. The meaning of “clean label” may be different to different people, but it tends to involve the following concepts:2,10

    1. Natural ingredients: no artificial flavors, artificial colors, artificial preservatives, or synthetic additives.
    2. Simplicity: less chemicals and recognizable ingredients that do not sound chemical or artificial.
    3. Transparency: information on how ingredients are sourced and how products are manufactured.
    4. Minimal processing: processing using techniques that consumers don’t understand to be artificial.

Consumers may identify a clean-labeled product by a shorter ingredient list or terms like “natural,” “simple,” “no artificial,” and “no preservatives” on the food label.

  6. Watch for sneaky salt.  Canned products are terrible about excess salt, and most processed foods.  Premade soups can be ultra retarded.  I just saw some that had 80% of what you should consume, in one serving.  The "lightly salted" nuts are quite low, but many everyday versions are pretty loaded.  And the flavored nuts are the worst.

1/4 cup of almonds weekdays for lunch

It is recommended to eat no more than exactly that amount per day.  Their high selenium content is linked with hypertension (high BP) and hyperlipidemia, in high amounts.  While almonds are considered heart-healthy, maybe being on the very high end of the recommended amount is causing high selenium.  I'd ask for that to be tested.

Research indicates that high serum selenium concentrations are associated with higher blood pressure levels and an increased prevalence of hypertension

    5

. Studies have shown a U-shaped relationship between selenium exposure and cardiovascular risk, with elevated blood pressure levels observed at high selenium concentrations

. While selenium is an essential micronutrient with antioxidant properties, it is crucial to maintain a balance in its intake as excessive levels may have adverse effects on blood pressure regulation.

So I went for a check up today and the doc wants me to take and log blood pressure readings for the next two weeks and let her know.  If my numbers are too bad she said she’d likely put me on some meds.

HOW DO I DROP MY BP IN TWO WEEKS?!!

Remove as much sodium from your diet as you can.  Remove or very significantly reduce processed food and processed oil usage.

I hope you're using this as a sign to improve your health and not to "cheat" your own doctor.

  8. Ahahahaha, EVERYTHING is a contentious issue amongst BMW owners.  I gave up on the local group when they argued about the muffin quality at different coffee shop meetups.  Like gun owners, there are groups I am part of that I hate to be part of because of the other members of the group.

  9. I love Gnocchi, and most of them are pretty much just potato, not just starchy bleached flour like most pasta.  Do look at the labels.  Fry's (Kroger) has two brands that are 91% and 92% potato, with a bit of flour.  It's not perfect, but I think it's damn close, for an occasional fun meal.

Pesto sauce is traditionally super oily and total garbage, but it doesn't have to be.  Just use pine nuts and water instead of oil.  Use nutritional yeast instead of cheese.  It's real food, and tastes fucking great.  I put a pile of basil into a blender, a bunch of garlic, lots of pine nuts, bit of potassium chloride, and some thyme.  Dash of lemon and some water, blend until smooth and add water if it's too thick.  Simple, fantastic, nutritious.  I typically air fry some squashes to go with it, or broccoli.

Amazon sells huge bags of pine nuts at a great price.  Move them into vacuum bags or freezer zip-locs and freeze.  They will stay good forever basically.  They are great on salads, and even in traditional marinara.  High nutritious, with high quality fats.

  10. It would be annoying, but every electric bike I've encountered (bicycle, scooter, motorcycle) has relatively low regen.  I'm not sure why.  Also it's easy to let the smoke out of the fully customizable (DIY) motor controllers and motors if you turn it up too high.  I'm pretty confident that shifting the XX into a gear that winds it to 10k RPM would be stronger.
