  1. Ok ,who in your opinions makes the best hugger. I was thinking of a carbon fiber look alike or all black. Gotta get something to protect my new Wilbers. I've got a silver bird. db
  2. Not sure what heated grips you are running, but my Dual Stars only draw 36 watts. On a 12v bike that's only 3 amps. I think they send a 5 amp fuse with the kit. A 30 amp would be asking for trouble on such a small load. You should check out your grips draw and resize if necessary. db
  3. Doubt if it's the battery. Sounds like a short somewhere. Probably got a part of the harness pinched when you were doing the new SS brake lines. Check you connections under the tank. Let us know what you find out. db
  4. I've got decel wobble with Pilot Roads. Real bad....
  5. Yeah I'm running the Black. Being from Seattle the Greens were not an option. So ya think one shim is a bad idea? db
  6. I shall borrow a nice digital set from the shop before I leave today.. Thanx
  7. With the caps to the reservoirs on , and I don't squeeze the handles/peddle could I pull out a bleeder valve to check it against what I was shipped without fluid going everywhere. Being quick about it, finger over hole, that sort of thing? I realize I may get a small bubble there at the bleeder, but a quick bleed should take care of it. Seems do-able. What do you wrenches think? I'd like to find out if I have the right bleeders before I do the full install . db
  8. i went with the clutch mounted ram mount. Not real happy with the tilt adjustment, but it is sturdy.

    Tire plugs

If you have the equipment then a patch on the inside is good. Plugs are generally a temp. fix and tend to get cut by the cords of the tire over time and can fail. You've gotta buy two tires from SWmoto to get free shipping.
  10. Good news that they are willing to get it right! I have a 2002, haven't measured my speed bleeders, so you think they are the wrong size? I might do the clutch before hookers but that's about it. Gary assured me that even if I don't install the brake lines for many months they will still work with me until the install is done and I'm happy with it. He called me this morning, again just to check in. He's definitely not gonna run and hide. dan
  11. That's a pretty shitty answer about the banjos and line colors. Why don't they make the lines the right length to run where they should? I haven't even started to install mine and I'm thinking about sending the package back to Gary and disputing the credit card charge. For what's it's worth my lines measure. +- 1/4" to be generous 1. 27.5" 2. 23 3/4" 3. 54" 4. 7 1/4" 5. 6 7/8" 6. 19.5" 7. 19 1/4" 8. 18 1/2" 9. 60 3/4" Clutch 41/3/4"
  12. I spoke to Gary as well. I ask him to get the specification for the line lengths from Ma tee us (sp) and email me so I can post them here so we can compare kit to kit uniformity. I also asked for their QC tolerance, i.e. + - 2mm etc. Clutch and the two fronts will vary depending on bar risers but the rest should be the same length. Dan
  13. Re: answer machine. Probably catching up from the Holiday. I realize measuring the stock lines would be a pain. Probably have to tape a string along the line then remove and measure. But it would be sweet to know their lengths. Looking at my schedule it will be Sept. before I can take on the SS line install. Dale did you have to grind off and custom fit, or did yours swap out as you would expect? db
  14. Now I'm seriously worried! Can someone post the stock line lenghts when they have them off. #1-9 plus clutch. I won't have a chance to do the install untill after Hookers and want to check the lengths of the new lines vs stock so I can get a word in with Gary before then if there is a big difference in the lengths. Can you post details of your conversation regarding this when you speak to Gary Mc Coy. Dale you replaced yours? Can you measure the stock line lenghts and post. Thanx Dan
  15. I've got the Quest GPS. Got the new motorcycle mount with the external power and earbud wiring. Was wondering what anyone else has done for the final mounting to the bike. I was thinking stemstand mount. Suggestions.... Thanx Dan
  16. My 2002 has the larger one with the fins on it.
  17. 115m megs depends on where you are riding. Isolated areas you can do half ther country. I can load a swath from Seattle to San Diego along ther coast. You are right that the memory is not expandable. It is water proof to 1 meter. Mounting hardware is just coming on line right now. If you are planning on using the Quest for hiking as well as biking I would reccoment the 76c. The quest antenna is not robust enough to take a hit on a branch or a drop. Great unit for car/bike. The battery is built in so if you do a long hike you are screwed as it will only last about 10-16hrs on a charge.

    Canyon Dancer

Not that I have to justify it but here goes. I wouldn't trailer it but the circumstance has come up that if I want to do some riding in Calif. I have to drop my daughter off at a friend on the way. She doesn't want to drone on I-5 for hours to get there. I don't blame her. Because she doesn't want to ride, she has to drive while I sleep...and then wake up in the Trinity Alps.. 8) Thanks for the tips and the link.. Dan

    Canyon Dancer

Thanx for the replies. Is the rear foot-peg hanger where you tie the backend down?

    Canyon Dancer

I'm fixing up a utility trailer that a neighbor gave to me. Nothing fancy, one of those fold up models that you get at a home improvement store. 4x8 ft frame. 1150 lbs capacity. It's got 11" rims so that's why I took it. I bolted a 1" sheet of plywood to the frame. (Not gonna fold it). I put new bearings and races, new lights and I mounted a wheel chock and some eyebolts in the appropriate places. I was planning on using a Canyon Dancer on the front, with two ratchet tie downs on each side front and one each side rear off of the passenger footpeg mounts. Any known problems with the Canyon Dancer setup on the XX bars or using the footpeg mounts? Thanx Dan

Try looking here for chain and sprokets http://www.sprocketcenter.com/detail.aspx?ID=297
  22. I put Galfer pads on the rear brake today at lunch. Replaced the OEM pads. Even with the pistons pushed all the way back I couldn't get both sets of shims in. I micked the gap and they just wouldn't fit. I put only the shim on the piston side in. Rode around the block, seems fine no squeeks. I was thinking after a few thousand miles I would put the other shim back in. Is that an OK thing to do? Thought I asked before I get to the fronts and have the same issue. db
  23. OK so I have 16K miles on my 2002 Bird. From some of the reading I hear not to bother with a valve check at 16K. I f I deceide to do it, is it all that hard to do. I've read the manual, but I'd like to hear from a few that have done it, if you think it's necessary at this time and if it can/should be done by some one with moderate mechanical apitiude. (relative term I know.) I just did all the fluids, brake, clutch, radiator, forks, new plugs air cleaner and was wondering about the valve clearance check. thanx Dan
  24. Thanks all. I guess I'll stick with sparksplugsdotcom $11.71 each
  25. I too am considering a new rear shock. Has anyone found a hugger that fits well and doesn't rub that will protect the new shock from grime? If so what brand, where did you get it, have to modify it, etc....? Thanx Dan
