Speed99 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Instead of invading other people's posts, I figured I would start my own. I peaked at 238 after the holidays. I swore I would never get in the 230's and there I was with 240 pending. I am pretty luck as the weight is in the mid section and then very light sprinkled around. How did I get there? Soda's and Ben & Jerry's. Michelle's craving during pregnancy was simply dessert. ANY dessert. We were packing it in every single night for months and then my poor habits over the holidays was the last straw. I had already quit smoking and then cut cigars down to 1 or 2 a month once Addison was born. Then the week before Christmas, I got the email from the YMCA that we used to go to that said they had free sign-ups if we join before the end of the year. We walked on before New Year's day, signed up and the first week after New Year's we got back into it. 3 to 4 times a week since. Dropped 10 the first week and then a little bit each week since. Sunday's are my weigh in's. Last week I was at 217.8. My goal is to be around 190 to 195. Weight loss is the biggest goal right now and then becoming more athletically strong with maybe a little upper body mass is the next step, but I am mostly concerned with getting down to a good wieght and staying there. My eating habits have drastically changed. Meal portions are controlled, I am actually eating breakfast now, and I read every label which I NEVER did before. After buring 30 minutes hard on the elliptical, I think twice about the calories that I put in, because I know how much mork it takes to burn it off. No Soda's at all since Jan 5th. Not even a sip. When we have desserts, its low fat frozen yogurt in a small cup (150 calories) compared to a pint of Ben & Jerry's which was about 1300 calories and 140% of the Daily % of fat....and holy carbs! 216 is my first milestone. I weighed in mid week at 215.6 so a good workout today should get me there 200 is my next milestone and then 5 pound increments from there. At 190 I can actually order my Christmas Present which was a set of custom fitted leathers for the racetrack. Lastly, I need to pick up a tape so I can start keeping measurements Quote

We're going to be a regular bunch of DILFs. Hmm...why doesnt that have the same ring to it that MILF does? Quote
Redbird Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Nice work, Rick. That's what, 20+ pounds in around a month? Are you tracking calories and such, or just eating better and moving more? Quote
TPXX Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I think around here everyone is a DILF! You know how .org rolls! Congrats Rick! Quote
Speed99 Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Nice work, Rick. That's what, 20+ pounds in around a month? Are you tracking calories and such, or just eating better and moving more? Watching calories and trying to track as much as I can. Mostly though its the latter. Just watching what we eat a lot more closely and getting ourselves a lot more active. Feeling better everyday. I had a hard time even jogging for any length of time when I started. Today was a cardio day and I got 30 mins on the elliptical and 25 on the treadmill and 10 mins of that was a full on run without falling over dead. Amazing what regular activity does for your stamina. Quote
Speed99 Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 On the road for the first time starting my diet and exercise plan. Over all I am doing very well. The choices for food are not as much on my control as I would like, but I am just trying to be smart. Dressing on the side. mixed vegies instead of potatoes. Water instead of soda (still soda free since Jan 5th.) No Dessert at all. I think the big success is that I have hit the gym at 5:30 yesterday and today and got in great cardio workouts to help burn the extra calories. I actually think I have a great chance of loosing again this week, but will be happy (not really ) with a break even week. Started week at 215.8 which is a 23.0 pound loss since I started the first week of Jan. 216 was my half-way milestone. Will celebrate sub-210, sub-200, and goal of sub 195. At that point I will take a good look and see if I have more to lose or if its time to add a little bit of mass. Regardless, I feel wonderful. did a full hr on the elliptical today and hit 11,000 strides in an hr. Quote
Redbird Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Good job, Rick, it's not easy eating well on the road. You're going to have to reset the suspension on the track bike (: Quote
Speed99 Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 I actually "ran" 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday. 5 weeks ago I couldn't run for 60 seconds without having to slow down for air. Quote
Redbird Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 2 miles, sweet, that means we can all watch you run a lap of Jennings at lunch. Quote
Speed99 Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 2 miles, sweet, that means we can all watch you run a lap of Jennings at lunch. You CAN, but you WON'T. LOL It is nice to know that I could run a lap if I wanted to. Sunday weigh in was 212.8 (Down 2.2 pounds since last week and that was with 2 days on the road eating hotel food.) -26.0 pounds since Jan 5. Not too bad. Almost down to the 210 milestone. I am shaving off little bits at a time but it feels like healthy loss. Brett sent me some stuff that I am going to look into and try out as well. My biggest problem is that my days are not active. My N.E.A.T. is lower sitting at a desk than someone that is at least active during the day. Quote
TPXX Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 N.E.A.T. is the same as B.M.R? I sit in an office almost all day as well and it does nothing for weight loss. I do go walk three miles three or four times a week. Also started using five pound weights to work the arms some as I walk. They were not getting the workout the legs did! You and Tim are doing great! Quote

I do go walk three miles three or four times a week. Also started using five pound weights to work the arms some as I walk. They were not getting the workout the legs did! You and Tim are doing great! You are doing great was well. Everyone has their pace. Loosing slow and steady will help you set good habits, take the weight off and keep it off later. It "seems" that a lot of people that drop that weight too quickly will often gain it make. Amazing what some good nutrition and added activity will do for you. "NEAT" (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). In plain English, this is the energy expended in everything we do that doesn't involve eating, sleeping and sport-related activity. This may include walking to work, typing, fidgeting, talking or performing other daily tasks such as shopping or yard work. About 30% of a person's daily expenditure comes from NEAT. (The other portions are from basal metabolism and thermic effect of eating). Those who are active have higher percentages of NEAT. This is the factor we have control over. People in jobs that have them up and moving burn more calories thru NEAT activity than people like us that sit in the office. I try do do some basic stuff like: Park at the end of the lot so I have to walk. Take the long way to the breakroom or rest room. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Stuff like that. Some Cut and Paste Magic.... To maximize the calories you burn with NEAT, you simply need to move around more: Stand up every chance you get. Walk everywhere. Pace when you're on the phone, visit your co-workers instead of emailing them or use a pedometer and see how many steps you can get in each day. (Rick: I think I read somewhere that you should try to get 10,000 steps a day) When at the mall, make three laps around the mall before you can buy anything. When you park the car, make a complete circuit around the parking lot before entering the building. When carrying groceries, bring the bags in one bag at a time. If you're stuck sitting for long periods of time, change position, shift in your seat or even do some isometric exercises - squeeze your hands together, contract your abs or squeeze your glutes. Hide the remote control and get up to change the channel. Sit on an exercise ball and roll around while you watch TV or work at the computer. Quote
Speed99 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Last week was a 0.2 pound gain. My body just had a flat week. However, mid week weigh in shows me being back on track for a big week. I have the potential to hit a couple milestones this week. I could break the 210 barrier and I could break the 30 pounds lost barrier. I need to weigh in on Sunday at 208.8 for both....I was 209.8 yesterday morning (mid week check) so we will see. Keeping fingers crossed. Sit on an exercise ball and roll around while you watch TV or work at the computer. I really want to start doing this at work. I wonder if anyone will give me crap (I mean...besides you guys...since sitting on a ball all day is a little gay.) Quote
Redbird Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 ...since sitting on a ball all day is a little gay.) No worries, my friend, that ship sailed long ago. Nice work. I'm totally going to hit that in 13 days Quote

Speed99 Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 As long as i get to hand with my boys and pitch every now and again, I am happy. :-) I broke 210! officially Lost 3.2 this week and am at 209.6. I wanted the 208 mark but have relatives in town and had a few meals this weekend that were slightly off our plan so maintaining since thurs when I was at 209.8 is an accomplishment in itself. Two nights in a row we out to dinner (Italian), two lunchs out and one Denny's visit for breakfast. Though the calories were higher than normal I still worked hard to eat well and keep things under control. This life style is a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. BTW: Dennys has very limited choices for eating healthy. Everything on their menu seems to be a Grand Slam Something. Keep it up HP gainers! Quote
Speed99 Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 208.6!!!! I officially past the 30 pound milestone. Quote
Redbird Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Congrats, man, more than 3/5 of the way to your new leathers. BTW, I'm now less that 2lbs. heavier than you. We're gonna need clubs to beat the bitches off. Quote

DaveK Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Congrats Rick....one of the most difficult things to do. Because the most difficult is keeping it off. Best of luck....you can do it. Quote

Say it aint so. Hubba hubba. LOL 4 days bro....can't wait to see you. Leaner, anyway. 210.2 this morning wearing sweats and a t-shirt. Less than four days, I hope to be there by around 4:00 Thursday. Speed99 Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 34 pounds. I have 4 weeks to drop 4 pounds so that I will be under 200 by my birthday in May. Sickness, RacerXX and sudden work travel has kept me out of the gym, but I need to figure out how to get back there. Quote
Redbird Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Home gym, do it. Some careful craiglist shopping and for what you'd spend on a few months of gym membership you can have a decent setup at home. There's some high end shit that goes cheaper than you'd believe. Way more convenient having everything at home, at least for me. I do miss swimming, though. Quote

Don't have enough room for the stuff (and children) we have today. I would love to add an elliptical and rower + a nice weight rack set up. I need another room! Quote
John01XX Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 a tread mill setup next to a weight bench doubles nicely as a double bed !! Quote
