RXX Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 That very top bolt on the triple tree....the manual just says "remove the steering stem nut cap" It has a hex socket in it, but I can't seem to get it off (I know, I said "get it off") Quote
Redbird Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 It's a 12mm allen. Get a key, or better yet a 3/8" or 1/2" drive socket, and break it loose. It may take some serious persuasion if this is the first time it's been off. Quote
Banshee Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Get suitable sized allen key for nut. Put long bar on end. Turn nut. It worked for me? Quote
speedygeezer Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Or, you can put a couple of 12mm nuts on a bolt and break it loose that way..... Quote
Fast Eddy Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Wow, a lot of good ideas. Of coarse I had none of those when I came to this spot. I just tapped it off with a hammer and a punch. My solution marred the cap a little, but I am not overly concerned with the little imperfections/blemishes. Quote
RXX Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 Thanks, guys. Now I can go to my local NAPA jobber and get me some more tools. Quote
airborneXX Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Torque spec on that "doohickey" is 76 ft lbs. Which is 7 ft lbs more than the rear axle nut. So it's on there tighter than you would expect. Quote
jon haney Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 You gotta use your "Big Boy" muscles. Or so I'm told. Quote
RXX Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Went to Smoky View NAPA today. Clestus soys we don't have a 12mm 3/8 hex socket. Biggest we got's a 10. I got a 10, I says.
