That very top bolt on the triple tree....the manual just says "remove the steering stem nut cap" It has a hex socket in it, but I can't seem to get it off (I know, I said "get it off")

It's a 12mm allen. Get a key, or better yet a 3/8" or 1/2" drive socket, and break it loose. It may take some serious persuasion if this is the first time it's been off.

Or, you can put a couple of 12mm nuts on a bolt and break it loose that way.....

Wow, a lot of good ideas.

Of coarse I had none of those when I came to this spot.

I just tapped it off with a hammer and a punch.

My solution marred the cap a little, but I am not overly concerned with the little imperfections/blemishes.

Thanks, guys. Now I can go to my local NAPA jobber and get me some more tools.

Torque spec on that "doohickey" is 76 ft lbs. Which is 7 ft lbs more than the rear axle nut. So it's on there tighter than you would expect.

You gotta use your "Big Boy" muscles. :icon_biggrin: Or so I'm told.

Hey Vester, go out there and break one out of a kit, willya?
