R1 reg/rec on a 99 XX?

I apologize in advance, but I'm crunched for time today, so I can't do the search and read thing.

I'm going to get a R1 reg/rec for my '99 XX. It has about 22,000 miles on it, so it sounds like its due.

Can I order a current R1 reg/rec for my bike? Or do I need to get a later model?

heres a good write up of the R1 reg/rec swap...I cant remember what year you need but I think its 99 or 00...works well without cutting wires...You will have to remove the wires from the connector tho...I am about 1.5 years on mine and about 20k miles plus or minus 10k (cant remember exactly when I did it!)
