I have always been under the impression that ram air comes into effect around 120 to 130 mph when the air being forced into the airbox is greater than the air going into the combustion chamber. This in turn pressurises the airbox making it force air down the velocity stacks into the combustion chamber. Here you will see a gain in HP probably about 4 or 5 on our bikes.. except the early models that just had them for looks.. anyways.. here is a responce that was written The 1000rr air flapper only closes from 5,000 to 7,000 rpm for noise control. Its to keep the intake from honking at resonant frequency as it can get much louder than the exaust. The wires going to the vacuum solenoid can be removed and the bike may become a beast of a wheelie machine.I found the top speed of my cbr600f4 was only 154 mph every time. Then I removed the ram air and it would sail up to 166mph with more to go. Without that ram air, the bike felt like it was loud enough to suck the eardrums out of my skull. I am beginning to believe ram air on any bike is mostly for noise control and looks. Removing them makes for a louder bike and seems to increase torque. demon Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Believe it or not Dave, our bikes' ram air actually comes into play with pressure at 90 mph. It's the best designed ram air ever put on a bike so far.
