  1. The Starcom1 system will do both, ptt or vox.
  2. I assume you mean the ground loop hum you hear from your mp3 player, radar detector, or gps being plugged in to the bikes 12v power?
  3. Another good alternative to the Autocomm is the Starcom1 ( www.starcom1.com ) which works really well. I use it for my radar, mp3, and the FRS radios on the bike. Works fantastic, and I cant ever imagine riding a bike without it....
  4. Pull the clutch in and blip the throttle, if it went away its the clutch basket and is normal - mine does the same.... If it does not go away, and you blip the throttle do you only hear it between 2k-3.5k RPM? If so, it's probably a CCT. ... or, do you only hear it when the bike is warm? My 97 has a 'gentle' knocking sound from the bottom of the engine when it gets hot but it never affects anything so I assume its normal. I can't imagine its this, considering it would only do it on 115+ temperature days here, and somehow I don't think its all that warm where you are right now! As someone else said, I would just swap out the CCT since its cheap and easy to start. Or take a digital camera out there that has a mic on it and record it for us and post it.
  5. Thanks to Redbird for the photo and AirborneXX for the writeup! 1. Put bike on the center stand. 2. Remove gas tank. 3. Loosen the nut that holds the upper shock mount. This nut is sometimes very tight and you may have to grind the plastic from the inner fender that surrounds the nut in order to get a good grip on the nut. Loosen the nut until the rear tire touches ground. 4. I used 7/16" flat washers, you will need 3 or 4 and measure the thickness until you get enough to make 6mm. Cut out enough of the washers so they will slip around the shock bolt, in a C shape. 5. Put them between the upper shock mount and the frame. This space will open up as you loosen the nut. 6. Tighten nut reassemble bike and enjoy! * Photo is from the rear of the bike looking forward, the black you see in the background is the battery box
  6. I've got this: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/auxiliary_tank/ ... works great! Can be found for cheaper though if I remember correctly.
  7. Actually, someone said they had a 97 scan done and just needed to send it to me. Let me try and get in touch with them. PM me to remind me or else I'll forget...
  8. Just did the same thing on the bird, and the VFR is now in need of a chain as well... ... and two new tires, plugs, and oil. :icon_doh:
  9. That should work, just try and set it in your profile...
  10. Exactly why did you buy this? I was thinking the same thing, sounds like he has one hell of a project ahead of him! Good luck.
  11. That photo is far too large, just resize it down and then it should upload just fine. I thought I could set the avatar for you, but I can only delete it - sorry. You'll need to resize it smaller and then resubmit it.
  12. Im not sure I understand what your asking, when you upload a new avatar you still see your old one? ---------------------------- Exactly. It's bizzare. I'done it about 5 diferent way, turned off my firewall, etc with no success. :icon_wall: You can attach the picture you want to this thread and I can set it for you... I've never heard of this problem before.

  14. The pictures don't work because your linking to an ImageShack account. Just upload the pictures as an attachment to your original post and they'll work fine. It's ImageShack who is stoping the photo, not this site...
  15. Ya, this chain died pretty fast. Last chain we squeezed almost 16,000 out of - so this one dying at little under 10,000 was disappointing.
  16. Checking the chain is easy. Put the bike on the center stand and put it in neutral and turn the tire and watch the chain. Each link should flatten out as it goes around the sprocket, if it does not its stuck. Try pivoting each chain link, if it moves each way with ease and does not stick then its good. It only takes 1 bad link to really notice...
  17. Speaking on dents on motorcycle tanks - what also works well are those Pops-a-dent things you see on TV for $19.99 - took a big but shallow dent out of the bird tank when I first got it. Doesnt work so well on the deeper stuff.
  18. I was going to say in sandals, but that works too!
  19. Could be a knock sensor, I believe there was a tread about someoen else thinking theirs had gone bad as well a few months ago. But as for the FI light, I can't imagine a bad knock sensor would illuminate the FI light.
  20. How many miles did you get out of your last chain and sproket? I just ended up replacing both the other day - had 28,000 on the sprocket and a little under 10,000 on the chain. The chain started binding at different places and after an entire can of chain cleaner and lube I gave up and just replaced it as well. The chain was in suprisingly bad shape for its age and mileage consiering I usually lube it before I ride.
  21. I've got a Sahara Vest and it works very well, but in Arizona where it's 110 and 5% humidity "very well" means I'm cool for 45 minutes at most. It works great but requires being resoaked quite often here...
  22. Here are the sounds, which one does it sound like? 1. Clutch Plates: When the bike is in neutral blip the throttle, you'll hear a small rattle. If you pull in the clutch and do this again the rattle will go away. This is the clutch plates rattling slightly and is normal. 2. CCT: When riding, or with the bike sitting still, blip the throttle. You may hear a rattle between 1700-2500rpm from the right side of the bike. This is typically a CCT wearing out, again normal and an easy fix. 3. Chain: When riding you usually notice it at lower speeds due to the wind noise being less. Sounds like a 'clunk clunk' as the chain goes around. It's either loose or has a link that is binding. If you put the bike on the centerstand you often times cant hear it beacuse there is no load on the suspension/chain. You can also sometimes feel it in the pegs on decel when riding. 4. Slight Knock: When the bike is warm/hot you may hear what sounds like a 'light knock' in the bottom of the engine, and a slight vibration in the pegs. Not sure what causes this, but many owners report it. My 97 has been doing it since day one when it gest close to the H. When its cold it never does it, but when it gets hot it will do it. Hopefully that helps?
  23. Yep, its normal - mine does it when it gets warm too.
