I'm considering doing this myself as my stator is giving full output on 2 lines but the 3rd is low. Honda parts in darkest Africa are stupid expensive.... Warp11XX Posted February 6, 2014 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Ray had a source that did rewinds at one point, but I don't think he was doing the work himself. If you can't hook something up, I had a shop in Roanoke, VA that said they would do it, but cost was nearly the same as new OEM. It would be worth it if you simply couldn't find OEM. The charging system on my XX has been the only significant flaw on the bike (other than my occasional lapses of visible riding talent) but parts prices here are soooo high. Is it the regulator taking out the stator? Would it be possible to change the regulator to the new series style to lessen the load on the stator? Chewtoy Posted February 11, 2014 Share Posted February 11, 2014 From the old bike board (cb1100f.net) I've rewound them. Not that difficult or particularly fun (and it can be a bit hard on the fingers). All you need to do is find the loose ends (there will be three soldered to the wires that go to the R/R connector), pick the top most one and wind if off . ( the windings are in groups of three). You should probably count the number of loops as they come off as you likely won't be able to get the rewind as tight as the original. Once you get one full 'leg' off, measure the length of the wire and use that as a guide to the length and gauge you need to replace (plus a few extra feet). Wind the three new legs on the same way the old ones cam off and with the same number of loops. If you can find a motor/ alternator rebuild place, they can dip it in epoxy and bake it for you. Last time I did one, a local alternator shop gave me the wire and dipped and baked it for free.
