Need to add miles to a speedometer

I have changed the odo. was not that hard, the early number wheel is held in with plastic that is melted over, hot knife and out it comes, back in and hot knife it back over the shaft.

Let me know If you want me to do it...

FWIW, it is very easy to swap the mileage mechanism out. I had a 1998 XX and it fell of a trailer at 70 MPH. I bought a set of gauges of eBay but they read 30K miles, while my 1998 only had 7K at the time. I took the unit apart and swapped my lower mileage odometer into the gauges. I think I have the higher mileage unit in a drawer in my shop. PM if you want to play with it. Yours for the shipping...............

As has been stated, pulling out the speedo is easy, so I would suggest one of the following, either take it apart like Stan said and correct the wheels, I had to repair the speedo on a 97 BB once (long story), so I know that what he suggested is true and easy. That or, ask Toxxic if you can borrow his old unit, correct it back to 7500+ miles, install it, register, then put your old one back in, and return Toxxic's back to him. Then, at least, you'll be legal to lose your license.... you BlackDevil Rider.

Because the alternative is you possible getting caught on a unregistered bike, while riding at high speeds, at night on the California Highway system...... Hmmmmmm.... I wonder how the CHP would react to that ?

let me guess...... Unregistered bike, High speeds.... means you must have stolen it, because it definitely not yours, so the proof is in the evidence alone, so what you might be looking at is, Grand theft auto, speeding, and they would impound your bike, and you'd never get it back.....

Your call.

Thanks for the offers, guys. I'm going to risk another few weeks and just ride the thing.

BTW, I'm far from the fastest guy out here. There are a lot of guys passing me @ > 100, and one guy with hard bags that's just insane. So I hope I'm low profile enough.

Finally went the the DMV today w/the odo showing 8,200. Lots of out of state vehicles in line to be checked, including a BMW 740i that was heavily leaking coolant. There is a large bill in that lady's future! No problems, except that it took a long time. People @ the DMV were nice, but are struggling with a system that forces them to check 4 different, huge binders to get the info they needed to process this crap.

So that's a worry off my back. Whew!
