GaryXX
This evening I was out riding and when I went to start the bird the headlight went out like normal but after it started it did not come back on. The high beam was also out but all the other lights on the bike worked fine. Since it was getting near dusk I started moving to get home and a couple of miles down the road the headlight came back on and the high beam also worked with no problem the rest of the way home. I checked the battery and it is fully charged so I was wondering if this sounds like a problem with the starter button? Thanks for any insight and it is a 2000 bird. rockmeupto125
It might well be a problem with the left control switch where hi-lo is. That switch seems to have a tendency (not a probability) to develop some electrical fatigue with age. But there are so many possibilities that you really can't be sure. I'd start with checking your grounds, fuses, and for pinched parts of wiring harness.
GaryXX
Thanks Joe as I will follow your suggestions to narrow the problem down. I wish it would just go but when it comes on intermittently it is always more difficult.
JB4XX
I had the same thing happen on my ST, it was the hi/lo switch. Play with the switch some and see if you cant duplicate the condition.
beondwacko
I also had a brief problem with this happening and the cause was odd. There is a "cutoff" for the headlight in the start button circuit. Next time you go to start the bike, let the start button SNAP back. After I excersized the button a few times,,,,, there was never a problem after that. BTW , I excersized the start button with the key in the OFF position.
