Heat Shield

I am looking into making a heat shield for my Bird so that the exhaust heat is deflected from the radiator while sitting. It would be factory looking and a bolt on if I get my sheet metal guy to do it.

Is anyone interested in one of these?

One of reasons is that if you wrap the headers then you take the risk if actually increasing the engine temo slightly. I would prefer deflecting.

If you are interested I will be getting pictures when he gets done.

Just post up here.

Yes, I'd be interested to see how it looks and how it works. Thanks.

I have the prototype already but need to final fit it. I did not get much interest in this so I never pressed the issue to get it done. If there is more interest I can have it done and installed then some pictures out within a week or so. I do need any suggestions on powder coat or some other reflection material for the final coat.

So, this is a sheet of metal that will re-direct exhaust header heat away from the radiator?

I can appreciate the concept but I'm not sure I understand the need. You guys believe that the exhaust is heating the radiator and causing excess heat during idling?

I guess I have yet to really feel the heat issue but I'm also concerned about the effects while riding. After the radiator, airflow is used to cool the block, the oil filter, the exhaust, etc... Won't a shield behidn the radiator, block this airflow?

hence why I said I was interested... personally I don't see how it would help but sometimes you just need to try to find out for sure. With the right design it just might help.
